I echo the use of a mask and using good ventilation in your work area. You should buy Radu Vero's book on using the airbrush. It the starts you at the beginning. It is full of demonstrations and everything. He teaches on color and and grayscale. Also he teaches about making and using different kinds of masks and painting freehand. Freehand is the core of painting anyway isn't it. I HIGHLY recommend this book to you.

Love watching the creation process. Finished product At a glance you see a simple yet beautiful and elegant painting. It crazy to watch the many intricate details flow from you through the brush and what your essence mingle with the paint and the canvas absorbing all of the gift you have to offer it. Truly a devine experience to behold !!! A true gift from within!

One more airbrush comment, Carly, Someone mentioned Iwata. I have two. One has a cup molded on top of the brush and another one uses detachable plastic bottles to hold the paint. Iwata is awesome. But I am biased.

an airbrush is terrific. you may have already learned more about using it by now. one thing you already probably learned was about overspray. Airbrush involves masking areas of the painting off. But maybe you would just want to keep it as freehand as you can. i wouldn't know. I took 4 semesters of just airbrush painting many years ago. I would take more lessons today but I've never found any where I live.

Hello, Carly. Great video showcasing your process and finished art. Regarding your airbrush: Please consider wearing a respirator when spraying anything solvent-based. Protect your body from inhaling the toxic particles floating in the studio air as you airbrush. If you turn down the air pressure really low, you can experiment creating a stippled/grainy spray pattern effect that you may find both appealing and complimentary to the heavy brush textured backgrounds which you created. Keep up the great and inspiring works!

🙋Wow!👍😍 Beautiful portrait! It turned out very unusual and the background creates the illusion of an old painting.

I'd be happy with a video every week if that's manageable for you, don't burn yourself out for us! You and @titusmeeuws are two of my favorite creators because your videos are so calming and it's just a privilege to peek in on your process and hear what you're thinking about while you create.

i remember playing with textures, using natural sponges, while painting a guest room in my house many years ago, and wonder if you could incorporate that sort of thing with textures.

I think you should use a mask with an airbrush. I don’t use one but have seen this recommended as you are spraying solvents around the room. Is that correct?

Yes - Don't spray oil solvents without a proper solvent mask. Ventilation is also recommended.

Airbrushs are only really affective on water based materials. However looking at your video, you need a airbrush with a higher needle thickness, between 5 - 8.

Regarding the airbrush: I use an airbrush for miniature painting, not canvas painting, but here are a few things i learned in the last few years: the quality of the airbrush is important for good results (I'm in love with harder and steenback). if you just want to create a fast background, a cheap one will do. but if you want to create detail and sharp results investing in a good airbrush is key. also get an airbrush with a separate compressor. having control over the pressure of the air will make a lot of things a lot easier. and I always have a test palette next to my project to test the sprayresult before i use it on my actual project this is important because depending on room temperature, air pressure and paintconsistency the sprayresult can vary drastically and you also wont create a mess if the Airbrush got clocked up

Dilute your paint to full milk consistency, then filter it through a metal coffee strainer. Lube the airbrush with Vaseline, When you are putting it back together, needle goes in back to front, so back of needle gets pushed in through the front of an assembled airbrush sans nozzle. This keeps you from breaking the needle. Get a dump tank. Leave solvent in airbrush when storing. Wear a chemical mask.

Madam, you MUST wear a dust mask, as you are breathing in micro particles of paint. I am reminded of a graphic artist who died from lung cancer as she used air brushing in her work without protection. Safety! Safety! Safety!

You should do a video of you starting with a "completely blank canvas " that does not have a single mark or line on it showing...You could show how you start your initial sketchwork from the very first mark that you put on the canvas and show the "entire beginning " of the sketch beginning with "your " first marks that you start and maybe about 50 percent or more of the completed sketch, that would be awesome 😂...

Even knowing that it's the middle of winter Down Under it's still weird to see green tropical plants outside your window and you painting in a sweatshirt inside. I've lived in a number of places over 66 years but never anywhere remotely tropical. It must be interesting! Congratulations on your recent sales. I guess that's another lesson in the life of an artist: no matter how much you may love your children, the rent still has to be paid. Besides, you don't want to end up old and famous and living in the middle of a museum of your work. Let it out, let it live! As much as I appreciate seeing your finished work, as a not very accomplished "artist" I learn more from watching it develop over time. Although I'm not a KZbin creator I understand the time and effort that goes into producing a video. I imagine that you lose a big chunk out of a day filming and editing these things. That's time you take from your other work. While as a greedy consumer I vote for weekly videos, it's your call. Do what's best for you.

You’re stuck in the outline of your sketch, missing the invisible lines of the figure, face, mouth and eyes. This is the problem of following photographs, instead doing it artistically-breaking the rules of perception. 🙏🏼😊

Carly I should tell you something: this is not hyper realistic and it does not need to be! these forms that you create with naked bodies can show me your understanding about the anatomy and the harmony of human body! but there is one thing: If you think that being able to paint "hyper realistic" will make you a better artist then you are totally wrong! when you try to paint hyper realistic you have a reference: the reality!! so you can analyze what happens in reality and create some technics to copy it on a canvas which I believe has nothing to do with a true artwork and a true artist. you can call yourself an artist when you can submit your madness, your craziness, your insanity, your different shapes and... on a canvas! The only reference you will have access to do such thing will be your own mind and nothing else! I believe this style of yours is very cool but I have a question for you! how many of these paintings with the same style and concept have you already painted?? that's quiet a question, huh?? ;) Good luck!!😊

@@teffinylablue8687 I don’t think you understand what I’m saying. I appreciate the artists work. I’m addressing the commentor which does have the right to criticize and question the artist if they want to. But it just seems like there’s always that one person who needs to put creatives on the spot with existential questions like "what’s the point of it all? or don’t you think your style isn’t exactly how you want to express yourself or reality? Why do you keep creating the same thing over and over again?” We create art simply because we want to create and express our selves. We have a certain style we try to master because it simply resonates with us.

@@alexmillion25 No, you don't create "art". you may be able to create "artwork"! and you used the word "simply". that's exactly the problem. many people think it is a simple process and they call themselves artists!! that's exactly why this world is full of hallucinated individuals who think they are creating artworks! I have a question for you: are you angry??!
