I've been growing anubias emersed for 10 years. I've had anubias do that with their roots. I basically set up a 75 gallon aquarium emersed with anubias in dirt. I had monster sized anubias mother plants. There roots were all grown together like that. I set the tank up with a few plants and just forgot about it for 6 months. I had some really nasty mold and fungus in it though. But when the plants were put in an aquarium the mold and fungus couldn't live under water. Of course I washed the plants first though before transfering them. I tried growing plants in plastic tubs like you but for some reason the plants didn't do well. I think I was having a problem keeping the humidity high. When I grow them in an aquarium I get glass lids cut at lowes and it seals the tank up well.

yup, it's viable!!! every time I "CHOP" out the the crypts, if ANY tap roots are left, it regrows twice as strong.

Thanks for watching Pieter, I've used regular potting soil, plain gravel, rockwool and montmorillonite clay (Product called Safe T Sorb) to grow crypts. All seem to work well when combined with fertilizers.
