Beautiful light, certainly captured the "golden hour". Let's all remember to be thankful to Moose and careful when driving at dusk.

Out here in Upstate NY we all grew up hearing stories about the moose who used to live throughout the state and now just the northern mountains of the state

Love watching you put the highlights on the tips of the antlers, catching that evening pre-storm light. Gorgeous painting.

Thanks! Those are definitely the fun parts of painting. The part that makes things suddenly come to life.

Great video Des! Please do more Of these the video quality is amazing . Any tips on doing Whitetail deer fur?!
@DesMcCaffrey3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Kristen!! I sure will. It depends what time of year the whitetail is portrayed in. Deer can range from scruffy to really smooth like on a horse. My deer are usually set in the fall or winter so the fur is a little thicker. With that said I wouldn’t give it to much hair by hair detail because it starts to look like the fine hairs of a wolf. That’s the way I do it anyway. I like to concentrate on light and shadow and as little microscopic detail as I can get away with. Hope that was helpful, I’ll have more videos coming. 😊🙏🏻

what color did you do for the brown wash

I used raw umber on this one.

Hello again Des, I was just wondering what that black pencil tool was that you use to draw in the shapes before you add the wash. The wash does not seem too smear it. Is it charcoal or a grease pencil? Thanks. 😊🫎 fan of mooses! Haha
@DesMcCaffrey Жыл бұрын
Hello, sorry for the late reply! I pencil it on first then use black or sepia fluid acrylic paint to lock in the drawing. Then wash away. 😊
@claires9100 Жыл бұрын
@@DesMcCaffrey Ok thank you. So then the wash is just a thin coat of paint (oil paint ) with solvent, like say, Gamsol? Thanks. Your painting is so beautiful. Reminds me of Alberta.
