People tend to over rotate because it’s a defence mechanism against injury as they have too much foreword (too perpendicular to baseline instead of obliquely) arm movement at contact & follow through which impinges the rotator cuff between the under surface of the acromion and the humeral head. This is a problem which is even common with learning the topspin serve.
