You've improved so much from the first time playing Belen. Bigger ball, higher shot tolerance, and a different backhand. Belen would be a nightmare to play: constantly puts you in uncomfortable pressure situations. GGs to both!
@theFedHD12 күн бұрын
I knew it, the same fking comment hahahah, “you’ve improved so much” yet he plays the damn same since his first videos lol, same weird ahh technique, same horrible serve, same elephant-like movement, maybe he got a bit more consistent on the backhand, but holy fk, how can you record yourself playing over and over and not notice the horrible technique you have? Fking hell, americans are so dumb it’s almost a study subject.
@lobomalsano12 күн бұрын
Why all her serves look exactly the same? They were all going to his forehand and not too fast nor heavy. I think winston could have made more aggresive returns knowing every serve will go to the same place
@Alexander-dt2eq11 күн бұрын
she plays aggresive , yet he kind of does make 0 use of her huge weakness. high deep topspin ball on her backhand, works against any female player up to pro level , even Djokovic uses it from time to time and gets lots of points from this tactics. Its especially deadly against smaller weak players, that do not have correct technique, which she obviously has. With that slight change to tactics he would win all matches easily. well, i actually do not see any tactics anyways)

@SRSports-xw5yu12 күн бұрын
Been loosely following for a while now and the improvement is tremendous! Especially to be improving at this rate as an adult. On your groundstrokes, look to start playing balls at the "top" of the bounce - most of your groundstrokes you like to wait an extra quarter second and it adds a little too much variability to your contact point. You end up forcing yourself to adjust with your hands instead of allowing yourself to be a bit more aggressive with your feet (adjust with feet to hit at top of the bounce vs adjust swing based on bounce) - Obviously can't be applied to every single shot but I found as a junior was a very helpful framework to force my feet to stay engaged.
@fuzzyballstennisclub11 күн бұрын
Great tip, thanks! Do you have any additional tips or video recommendations on how to take the ball at the apex?
@billbrandine58577 күн бұрын
That was really good competition. Belen got it correct when she said she cooled off a bit then got it back together. The momentum swing showed the comparison of a 4.5, even a 5.0, vs. a D1 player. She was solid when she needed to win. And Winston predictably was the one who made the critical errors at the worst times. This is just what you'd expect between these two levels. Thanks, guys for entertaining us.
@squiggs10024 күн бұрын
reality - actual USTA 4.5 leagues have a wide range of ability. At the bottom end you have recreational club players that worked their way up from 3.0-3.5 as adults making it to 4.5. These players would struggle against a player like her. At the top end you have former college players many of whom are still in their 20s and 30s that would win easily against her.
@billbrandine58572 күн бұрын
@squiggs1002 i've always been more under the impression that a high level D1 college player is a 5.0, and maybe higher. Lower level college, D2 or D3 is a 4.5. Plus, depending on where you play in the US, though NTRP rating should be objective everywhere, players get rated differently, i.e. frequently NY's 4.5 is California's or Florida's 4.0. Though it wasn't designed to be, the whole thing is very subjective.

Winston, the backhand at 9:01 was solid! I know you're looking to hit that crosscourt, big loopy forehand that finishes high over your shoulder. But your backhand is consistent...you're not using it enough. You should start stepping in with that backhand and giving it a rip, on the rise. Remember, you can hurt your opponent with your backhand (not just your forehand). Nice job!

High heavy spin in doubles will get eaten for breakfast by any decent net player so no, she doesn’t hit too flat. It’s a necessary calculated risk for her game of preference. Also, singles is a totally different game so a few more errors is expected.

Winston - former D1 player here. you could really benefit from learning a high deep topspin cross court shot. she's got you on the run and you seem to try and push it down the line from experience with that shot, especially on the run, you gotta aim a got 6-7 feet outside of the ally and a good 6-7 feet behind the baseline to compensate for being in such a "weak" position see opportunities at 2:47, 3:07, 3:51 you executed it well at 4:20, not as cross as it needs to be at 4:27 but thats the perfect shot shape (minus the angle) give it a try. obviously easier said than done
@robertbuetti235412 күн бұрын
in fact, Rafa famously uses it on defense to buy himself time to get back into position. The arcing shape isnt as fast and takes longer to get across the court, but its got enough topspin to keep the opponent from attacking it

@Tommie22x12 күн бұрын
Winston! you improved so much! I agree with some of the comments of developing a bigger target cross court deep topspin forehand. When your tight, u tend to drop the forehand in the middle of court, where she was able to attack. The footwork could use a bit of work. Few times you were out of position or on the run (sometimes just when moving side to side) because you mistimed or didn't do a split step. When your able to set up your shots look great!

He just needs to improve his serve if he wants to win next year, it's not powerful enough or put it in the right position enough therefore give his opponent the control of the point straight away.. forehand can definitely be deeper as well, when you're hitting your forehand right into the service square, it's the perfect hitting zone for your opponent.

It's been a minute since I watched one of your matches, and you look to have improved in most areas. Still hitting those nice heavy groundstrokes, serve has improved a lot(a few aces and a decent amount of good body serves), looking solid everywhere except net play. I get you're a baseliner, but I'd love to see you hitting volleys with confidence, on the rare occasion that you are pulled into the net. Who knows? Maybe if you felt confident volleying you might be able to attack the net every now and again, keep them guessing. Good game!
