I love the new intro! Is that actually Lavender meowing? I appreciate how you've been pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone lately! At some point, I would still LOVE to see you give video games a try. There are many blind gaming streamers and youtubers out there, and more games are being built with accessibility in mind. I have a feeling you'd really enjoy certain games which focus on their characters and storytelling, such as Hades or The Last of Us 2.

Litter box tip, my father is close to blind and we got a shake litter tray so he is able to do their cats The middle part of the box lifts up so only the clumps of waste stay on a mesh-like layer, and you shake a tiny bit to make sure they are only the poops and pee clumps. Then one can simply tip the mesh layer into a trash bag! Much too late for you to read this but might help others :)

Sighted cat mom here!! I use the plastic bag you had as a liner like we do for trash cans, so I put it in the litter box then put the litter, the lid holds it in place. She does her business and I scoop until it starts getting funky, then I pull the whole liner out of the box and discard it. Every so often I take it into the bath tub and give the base & lid a wash. Alternatively, they do make recycled material litter boxes that are meant for a week’s use of so then toss it, I’ve seen them at PetSmart. I know they’re sold in Canada because Melissa Maker from Clean My Space showed them years ago and I got some for my previous cat Honey.

Hey Molly, I’m a person with sight and the way we use these litter box plastic bags in France is that we put them before putting the litter « granules » in the litter box, that way when the litter is dirty you just have to take off the bag, tie a knot and put it in the bin, then put a new litter bag then put the litter in it then put the lid of the litter back on ! Lots of hugs from Paris, Clem

@alyssa6031
@alyssa6031 3 жыл бұрын
I think what she means by a photographic memory is she knows where everything is. She has a spot for everything and if she were to set something down would have to have more help finding it as she cant actually see it. As a sighted person we rely on vision therefore we dont feel the need to memorize where stores, cars, and items are. If we were to forget where we left something all we would have to do is look for the object with our eyes. You can cover more ground faster and easier with your eyes than it is with your hands. I hope this makes sense..? Sorry if I dont! Maybe someone can come by and correct me if I'm wrong.

@@alyssa6031 Not at all! You’re fine! @ElizabethDohertyThomas
@ElizabethDohertyThomas 3 жыл бұрын
@@alyssa6031 I think she has a skill that most of us don't have. Photographic memory from my understanding, has nothing to do with memorizing or even wanting to memorize. It's more reflexive with zero energy or ability to control it at all. Most sighted people could go to a mall once, see stuff, but would not easily remember 3 years later in great detail unless they had this super skill. Just seeing something doesn't "plant it in our brains." If there is a total opposite skill, I'd have it! You could tell me to close my eyes on most days and I would have no idea what clothing I'm wearing, because it just doesn't stick in my head at all. I'd make the very, very worst FBI agent or spy. lol But what you are describing is a real skill many develop when they experience serious brain fog or are generally spacey. They learn to create a pattern each day to stop wasting so much time finding lost car keys, etc.

@@ElizabethDohertyThomas this is so true. I have both a chronic pain disorder, and ADHD and I've dine exactly that. Created patterns to avoid the unknown and so mu space brain will automatically do the things without all the extra energy. @@alyssa6031 No, as she said, she can do a route once, she can memorize stores in a mall after one time of being walked through it. That's rare, kind of the equivalent to memorizing a book word for word after reading it. It isn't simply being organized. I bet it has been a very helpful skill and I would like to hear more about it.

Hi Molly! I have a front load washer too. A tip to help the smell, leave the door open a crack when you're not washing something in it. It's made to seal water in so when you close it after washing it seals all that moisture in and creates mold. The previous owners of my house never left the washer door open and it smelled terrible. Also, the Oxyclean washing machine cleaning packets work great. Or running it with just bleach also helps with the smell.
@doodles54321

It might help to get multiple litter boxes with Lavender, I've found it helps them bury it more and manage the smell. It's also a possibility to just get big bins, I have a friend whose cats really like to dig deep, so she got storage bins and the combination of them burying it, with the deep litter and surface area helps with her smell. My two cats even tend to use specific litter boxes for pee and poo, just something they naturally started doing that actually helps a lot. Also baking soda, and a closed lid that seals trashcan super close by has made a huge difference.
@lf206
@lf206 3 жыл бұрын
I second the baking soda. It’s awesome for all kinds of animals. Also There is a product called zeolite that absorbs and binds ammonia which reduces Oder drastically. It’s sold for livestock and chickens, but will work for anything from fish to cats. “Coop ‘n’ compost” is one brand packaged in small containers.

Your laundry method is awesome and your memory is amazing!! The way my husband and I do laundry is that we do not have a basket, we take something off and it immediately goes into the washer, when the washer is full it gets run. We run everything on 'warm' so no colors bleed and nothing shrinks, so we have no need to separate clothes. We don't have any special fabrics that need special care, especially because we have a toddler we don't have time for that.

I would recommend getting a second litter box for Miss Lavender. She will thank you for it. It helps to have two boxes per cat. I also recommend a natural clumping litter like Garfield brand with cassava and corn (made safe for kitties and dust free) or a fine crystal litter as an option to ask your vet about. I also had both myself and a cat sneezing and having issues from a traditional litter and both of those options work well for us and are available as clumping for daily scooping. If you do try the crystal kind just make sure you get the kind that is fine as the bigger chunks can hurt kitty paws. The litter you have is great, but if you are looking for a clumping option to make daily scooping easy those have worked for us. Also, crystal litter really is good at neutralizing the stink. Best of luck!

I had the exact same washer/dryer in my apartment and loved them! For the leak, make sure the drain pipe thing on the bottom right is tightly secured. The knob should be tightened to 12:00 and 6:00. 🕕 you also have to let the pipe drain into a bowl every month so there may be a lot of build up in there from a previous tenant. And I always keep the washer door open so it can air dry properly and not create mould. For the dryer i always found it dried really well but I also used wool dryer balls which help to dry clothes really fast!

well, for my bedroom carpet I use a full size shark rocket uprite vac rarely as I miss spots eventhough it has headlights. The other reason its rarely ran is the fact it is a small room. We have a roomba type shark one but imo it is overkill for my room so I normally just stick to using the little red Royal Appliances dirt devil handheld that I restored my self. It is a little vintage vac I picked up years ago thrifting and it is the perfect vac for the blind indevidual working with a small area. I like it because it is compact, and even has a brush roller that is motorized like a full size machine. I don't know if dirt devil even make one like this anymore. It can be used bagged or bagless using only the cloth bag but if you are sencitive to dust I recommend getting bags if you pick one of these up. You do need to be on your knees to run it but it is small enough to be able to feel as you navegate around picking up dust and you garanty your getting everything. Another great thing about this model is the amount of cord it gives you to work with. I have issues with either eating the cord or eating other unwanted items and missing dirt with full size vacuums. With this one it is never a problem.

For cat litter, I put a liner down first in the litter box (like a garbage bag or something, nothing fancy) so there's no precarious dumping of dirty litter. I use a scooper to get out the clumps every day, then change the entire littler for fresh litter once a week - just take it all out using the liner, put a new liner down, put the new litter in. It also cuts down on the amount you need to physically scrub the litter tray itself.

It’s so frustrating how many people still assume that blind people are just helpless and incapable of doing things independently. Many blind people live independently, have careers, raise kids, have hobbies, etc. Please people, stop believing the stereotype that a blind person is only capable of doing basic tasks like stringing beads.

Molly, I gotta tell you about this litter I know of! So, I have asthma and I couldn't fill up the litter box ever (I could only empty it or scoop it). The dusty scented litter would puff up, I would breathe it in and have an asthma attack. I tried all sorts of litter and then switched the wood pellets. That was good for me and for the environment, but smelly. Baking soda was helpful, but not for my cat with urinary crystals. I don't want any irritants causing a urinary blockage. So, that's the backstory. Now, I tried a couple types of crystal litter because it is supposed to be better for the environment and I was sick of smelly wood pellets lol. Some were too dusty, but I finally found Neon. It is a clunping crystal litter that also isn't dusty. No scent, no dust, and not smelly! ALSO, IT IS A NEON COLOR AND SO COOL. The litter box is the most colorful thing in our bathroom. It is a block of PINK.

I don’t have any washing machine repair tips, but sometimes dryers get slow because the sensor has buildup on it. You’ll feel 2-3 raised parallel strips probably on the front wall under the door, near the lint filter. ( if it’s laid out like my dryer) They’re metal, and the conductivity is what lets it know that the cloths are dry when the wet no longer completes the circuit. You can clean oils from clothing off with rubbing alcohol. It might not be the problem with your dryer, but it might help!

Hi Molly! If Lavender getting herself stuck in places is super irksome, I have a suggestion. You could get some lights, stick them in the closets or anywhere you need, and get a couple cameras -- one for each closet. If they're connected to a camera app on your phone or Alexa/Google, you could easily find where Lavender is!

I am visually impaired and I love the Breeze Litter Box. It uses the hard pellets and potty pads. The potty pads are in a drawer below the main litter box, the potty filters through the pellets to the pad below and you just have to scoop the business as needed and change the pads every 4 days. The pellets can be changed once a month. The scooper clips to the side of the littler box and the pellets fall through the scooper as you scoop around so all you have to toss out it the business. I deep clean my box at least once a month as well. Let me know if you have questions.

Litter Box tip: I'm not blind, but with my litter box I put the bag ontop of the bottomand over the sides first. Then I'll put the cat litter on top of the bag, so when I need to empty the box all I need to do is lift up the bag and the litter is already in it. Hope this make sense, I find it really helps.

Litter box tip! they sell bags that go into the litter box so that when your done with the litter you just have to pull the bag off. No mess and the litter is already in a bag! I use them and they're great. just don't let the litter get too low and you won't have to worry about potential holes in the bags. Also get a "pooper scooper" for the litter box, it will help with not wasting litter.

Loved this though glad u know the put the whole box in bag I tip I do is give a few hits on the bottom while I still have it standing in the bag and anything still stuck use the scooper to get off then proceed with a soak and cleaner or vinegar. I wish we saw the deep clean of the litter box and thought we see scooping. One tip I recommend is have it by or in ur bathroom better is bathroom not the main one for baths or showers but I digress so every time u go potty scoop the box.

For the litter box I use wood pellet litter and I have a sifting litter box and I put the bags under the sifting tray so all the saw dust ends up in the bag and I just lift and tie up the bag and replace with a new one every week. For the poop I flip a poop bag inside out and put it on my hands to find and pick up the poop. I just flip the bag inside out with the poop and throw the poop away. This way it’s easier as you just have to shake the litter box everyday and pick up poop everyday. The pellets it’s self I only fully dispose of it when it smells bad if not I just top up with more litter as when the pellets are used they turn into saw dust. Hope that helps!

I'm not blind, but I've had many cats over the years and litterbox liners are a lifesaver! There are a couple different types, such as drawstring and sifting liners - I preferred the drawstring ones because of how many cats we had. The sifting kind of aerates the smell a little which I didn't always like, and it mostly works with fine particle clumping cat litter which also gave my cats asthma so we stopped using it. In a pinch when we didn't have the money, we just used small kitchen trash bags turned inside out to line, and that worked pretty well. But using liners helps to cut down how often you have to deep clean the litter box by a lot! And makes changing litter a lot faster (and you won't have to scrape the bottom as often which I really appreciated lol). Of course, whatever works for you is a good way of doing it! Just a quick tip ❤️❤️

A cycle or two of vinegar in the washer and making sure the door to the washer is slightly open (not wide open, just don’t click it closed) so the machine can dry inside, could solve the mildew issue quite easily. You don’t necessarily have to leave the washer door open all week, but just say overnight after doing your laundry, just to let the residue water in the machine have a chance to dry off instead of being sealed in for days and days. You don’t have to run a vinegar cycle all the time either but just when the mildew smell is really there. My mum had a lot of issues with the washing machine smelling even though she left the door open, but quite recently she started using vinegar instead of fabric softener/rinse aid as vinegar can have the same effect on the clothes but in a more environmentally friendly way that also is better for the fabrics, and when stopping the chemical type fabric softener and using vinegar instead it also made the machine smell better, and then she also runs a cycle with just vinegar to clean the machine every now and then or as needed. Cheap, easy and green way of taking care of the washing machine and keeping it fresh
