Earned my sub man. I really appreciate you being open about how to get started in ecommerce/freelancing in general. I definitely agree that a lot of it is gatekept behind paid courses or just gatekept all together. I see too much content about how to make cool things but I pretty much never see content on how to make MONEY off of those cool things. As someone graduating from uni next year and looking to make a career out of 3D design, I really enjoy watching your videos. Keep it up!!!

I need a little renderer on my shoulder to constantly remind me that perfection is a waste of time. 😂 I let my ego get in the way of quicker/simpler solutions like using website templates because the result doesn't feel like my own personal creation, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter to the end user whether I made something from scratch or not.

Nice video, wanted to know your opinion on " Sora " the latest text to video A.I model. I saw it's results and not gonna lie, it's way to real to be true. Do you think it will replace us as 3-D artist?
@renderer
@renderer 5 ай бұрын
I made a video about AI right before this video and then about a week later, Sora was announced so it became immediately outdated haha, still check it out if you want: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWe1aGhujNugrcU There's no denying that Sora is very good and will only get better. The sheer number of industries that AI is about to affect (and already has) is gonna be very large and it's hard to predict exactly how this will all play out. I'd say for now, there's no downside to getting comfortable with freelancing, learning to sell services to people, and building connections in the design world. Worst case scenario; in 3 years AI will have completely replaced 3D artists (unlikely for a lot of reasons), but you will have a lot of skills applicable to other industries. I think human communication is about to get very important. Keep an eye on AI, use new AI tools as they become available. The AI takeover isn't going to happen overnight. If 3D render work really becomes obsolete, it will fizzle out over a period of time and we'll see it coming. I'm personally still building
@Ninja-CG
@Ninja-CG 5 ай бұрын
I feel that it will not still affect we freelance demand. We have a lot of image generation AI but if we look at the statistics of photographer or an artist you will not they are still in great demand. My opinion, the ai will come but we would surely adapt and still make out money. WE ARE HUMANS

Good to know people make actually good income from this. From my experience I am mostly contacted by people/companies that want various renders or product design and only a small percent will actually pay in the end. Would be nice to tell us about how you approach your clients so that you don't end up working without payment. This is the main reason why people prefer to use various platforms as a 3rd party between client and the 3D designer.

Yeah I wanna make a video about following my process. I think I touched on some of these things in older videos it's about time for an update. Basically it goes like this 1) Me and a client get in contact somehow 2) I give a soft quote based on what they say at first (possible price range) 3) We talk about what they need, sometimes on a video call just to meet and discuss in more detail 4) After collecting the details, I tell them I'll have a quote later today (Good to put the quote in writing instead of trying to think of one on the spot) 5) If all goes well, create an invoice and take half (or full) payment upfront 6) Do work, send frequent updates 7) Upon satisfaction, send low-res version of final project and collect second 1/2 of payment 8) Send high res final version 9) Have a wonderful evening and relax

Heya, I've been subbed to you for a while now and I've watched almost all of your videos and I'll be honest, out of all the other "how to make money from something" KZbinrs, your content feels the most trustworthy and genuine. All in all I absolutely love what you're doing man, keep it up. I'm mainly commenting cus i had a few questions that i couldn't find the answer to and was hoping you could shed some light on it. First, I wanna know how long do I expect to have to wait to get the first client when i make a portfolio and start looking for clients? Ik this is a pretty big subject but i just wanna know if it's completely random or is there usually a time frame like 6-12 months or something. And second (this might be a weird question), when a big company reaches out to me, do they ever care about if I took any professional course on the work I do and if I have a certificate or not, or maybe a certain education level.. or do they just look at my work and be like "yeah ur good enough"?
@Aent6
@Aent6 5 ай бұрын
For your first question, it's really hard to answer since it fully depends on your quality of work and the effort you put into getting clients. You could get your first client in the first week if your work and brand appearance is awesome but you could also not get a client for months simply because you don't make your services easy enough to find/attractive enough for possible clients.

It can take anywhere from a day to a few months to find a client depending on luck, skill, and the quality of your outreach. My next video will be about communication and should provide some good value on those things. If you haven't already, check out my video about how I got my first clients: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYWrlKxumpqSopI I think if a bigger company reaches out, unless you're thinking of getting employed at a corporate boomer company there's almost zero chance they would care about certifications and all that. I'm entirely self-taught and my portfolio and connections have all been built by myself. I have no education on design or anything

It totally depends who the client is. For some clients that's a drop in the bucket and for others it's gonna be the biggest business expense they've ever faced. That's why it's important to do research on who your client is before you give them a quote and to be okay telling a client that you won't work for their low budget. It will take a while to get to the point where all of your clients will be able to work with your higher prices, but these kinds of connections come from consistently putting out good work and earning referrals.

So basically I have started using blender again after a longer time and I find it quite enjoyable and Id like to improve and possibly make a living in the future… however I keep seeing more and more insane clips of the new AI that can make photorealistic videos in just seconds and I’m afraid I will learn blender for years only for some AI to take my job… do you think AI is gonna take animators and graphic designer’s jobs in the near future and is it still worth learning blender for a living? If it is worth the time and effort please tell me why because I’m a bit stuck 😅

We talk a lot about that in his discord server. Anyway, IMO, I don't think A.I will take over completely, but rather merge with the current 3d pipeline, A.I will just make some parts or even most parts of the pipeline easier for us, 3d artists.

Yeah hard to say for sure what it's gonna do. My video before this one was about AI but then like 5 days later, Sora was announced. It depends on what your learning abilities and opportunities are (willingness and ability to learn quickly, enough free time to study for years, suitable learning environment, etc.), if you can become very good in one or several areas of 3D, maybe you will have good career chances in this field. If not, you won't be able to compete with the many new and old 3D artists who have more experience than you. One of the problems with AI is that not only companies will need fewer and more experienced specialists, but also that AI allows potential customers and people with no experience to generate the things they need and don't need to hire specialists for this.

@thivolan3d
@thivolan3d 5 ай бұрын
I personally feel like a website for portfolio purposes is waste given that you can just show your work off on artstation for free; a website makes sense if you have other stuff on there like a blog or ways to actually convert clicks to clients.... but given that artstation has millions of users already while a startup website with just a portfolio probably isnt going to draw much attention so maybe focus on your portfolio for now and when you know you have enough of a following start a website. As for your portfolio, whether its art or accounting you only want to show off your strongest works because people will judge you on your weakest work. So if you only have three good works then post those, if you only have 4 or 2 then start with that and build it up as you go...

Yeah I think this is mostly true - artstation is a good starting place and can save you trouble with building a site but like I said in the video, when you work your way up, artstation can give "starving artist", "solo" vibes and hurt your chances with larger clients.
