Is there any tip to find clients as a character artist?

Really enjoyed this video I've been sitting on half-decent followings on IG & Twitter and the way you framed how to make the best use of those platforms has me motivated to do just that. I've always struggled to dial what I do into an elevator pitch style bio and let that prevent me from making any progress or growth. Seems like a good time to just start pumping out content and sharing what I know

I h*te sales people so much it's unreal. Always desperate trying to close the deal, I can smell the sales man's commission breath. I'm convinced that it's mostly low IQ people who go into sales, those with intelligence will go into technical fields. If the sales man tried to "take control" of me during a sales call, I would tell him to f*ck off, I'm making the decisions.

Good video. Can you please make more videos on your client projects? Discuss things from the beginning (like from where you got the client, the client's requirements, price/bargaining for the project, and from scratch to finish with possible revisions. So it will be a long in-depth video of how you do your daily things. Obviously please choose a project that you can have permission to make such videos and share online. Maybe part by part or a large full video. Whichever is more convenient for you. Needless to say, you're doing great work. Best of luck for your future journey as a 3D artist.

It happened to me yesterday. A client called me and asked me to create an animation in Fiverr. I asked all the details and told the price. I asked for $200. But he asked for 30$. I said I didn't like the deal. I regretted it later. Did I miss an opportunity? Do you have any advice on this? (I'm new to making money online, but I'm not new to 3d.)

I wouldn't regret declining such a bad offer and it's not like you get to work for someone you believe might grow and get you more work, just some cheap skate

Whenever ive been asked to give a range on how much a cgi ad would cost ive said it can be done all the way from 0 usd to 1 million. It depends on the quality, the time, the experience if the artist. Then i say if theres something theyve seen that they liked and would like an estimate on that, i could probably let them know how much i would charge for something almost exactly like that.

Conversation with clients is a process that we learn during our journey. It's understandable that, in the beginning, we might place the client on a higher pedestal than ourselves and undervalue our services. However, it's through such mistakes that we gradually learn to better estimate costs and engage in conversations with clients as equals.

Love your mentality man, had a similar idea. The thing that gets me here is how much do I charge for that? I am used to produce animations, VFX or VR models. And I was looking for faster results, lesser earnings but as you said the number of clients purchasing Brand Kits is way higher than my others... I have no clue what I'd ask for for this type of project.

I have a few videos that discuss the mentality around pricing - it really does depend on so many factors that there's no "fair" price kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYO2c6qvit-EpNk

This is SOOO important, for TWO reasons. Firstly, exactly what you're saying, the client doesn't necessarily know what you do or how it's priced. Secondly, (and I think this is underexposed) if I'm new to the market, then I might not even know what a "pricing chart" is, let alone whether or not it's reasonable for a client to ask for such a thing. I don't think it's a problem of "authority" or "giving up" so much as it is the assumption that the client has been in business longer than me, so they probably know things about "how this is supposed to work," than I do. It's really tough to know when to push back on a client's expectations, especially when I don't know what the norm is. So, I'd recommend two pieces of advice: 1) Give them a pricing chart ;-) You don't gain confidence without experience, and you don't gain experience without making mistakes. It's okay to make that mistake of trying to make rendering work fit into a pricing chart. Then you can say all the more confidently "This REALLY doesn't work, unless I can guarantee the scope and duration." Now you KNOW why you don't use a pricing chart (or whatever other mistake you make). 2) find ways to get that knowledge from other people (like @renderer ;-) ) but also from people outside your industry. Sure, experience is the best teacher, and is the one we're usually the most afraid of, but it's not the ONLY way to learn. Find ways to tell your client something like "I'll get back to you," and then go to the network where you can ask things like "what is a pricing chart, should I have one?"

Top point and I share your concerns. I guess it is a balance of been perceived as an authority on what you do and with a degree of flexibility and and competitiveness in the eyes of the client. Getting that first job with a client and providing great results and service is nearly always the key....vast majority of my clients are long term.

I've been quoting people for three years now and this is my one tip. From my experience people who want to you to give them a chart are just trying to lower the price. Let's say you put it this way Parta A - 100$ Part B - 200$ Part C (optional) - 200$ And they will say: well I don't need C and A. I only want half of B and they want you to do the job for 50$ which would be way too low. Example: I've seen and done this ( sadly) many times. Someone wants interior work. So you price the modelling, design and then the renders and they always come back with ohh I dont need project just renders. Well to do the renders you need to know where to put stuff so you will have to do some designing wheather you want it or not. I even had people telling me they will model a room or a product themselves and wanted me to take out modelling from the price. Of course they dont know what uv unwrapping and texturing is either. Not to mention working with models that have bad topography is just more work. So quote per project. I sometimes make chart for myself but I never show them to clients. Point I want to make is just because you negotiate with someone it's not closed deal. Searching for clients is exhausting and we always want to land a job but just because someone is interested it doesnt mean you should be too. It's hard to let go of a oportunity but it's way better than spending few weeks working for next to nothing. Cheers
@renderer7 күн бұрын
Exactly, YOU are the one who determines how your work is priced. You can use a chart for yourself as a guide but charts are never a good way to price such a nuanced kind of work
