1) Study -why do you like this art -what techniques did they use 2) thumbnail, research, reference -research the subject -draw thumbnails keeping in mind what you analyzed -sketch is crucial to fill in details from the thumbnail - coloring lighting wawawa very intuitive flexible step just follow what you analyzed and eye your reference 3. Evaluation - did you capture what you analyzed? - try again to hone your skill,so it wont be just a fluke - what do you want to capture in your art? -keep in mind your workflow 4)extra - if no online ref, make ur own ref - keep in mind your pre-render, the fundamentals will hold your art 5) perception - are my audience responding the way i wanted to? - final note : study the people you admire.

So much dynamic movement. Ive got to say one of my weaknesses as an artist is I tend to avoid more difficult angles with plenty of foreshortening. Yet you can see from both your reference and you finished works here that it pays to lean into more difficult to visualize angles, poses, etc. These really turned out great. I actually love the idea of using video for capturing reference seems a lot more versitile and I wouldn't have the ten crap photos to get the one good one. Now if Only I had a webcam still, lol.

This was so helpful! All of your videos are really thought through and very motivating. Breaking things down shows us how possible it is if you don't panic and write down the direction you want to take for your art work. Makes everything less daunting and for perfectionists, it allows us to actually...start the illustration instead of feeling discouraged looking at the blank canvas. 😂😅

Not completely related, but I do have something to mention as for the whole sketching and brushes, etc... Me, personally, take a pretty short time at drawing. I think the reason I can draw two characters in a cute little scene in around 20 minutes is primarily since I sketch with a thick black brush, add another layer (lower opacity on sketch), then do lineart on the second layer. It's easier for me to freestyle it somewhat, and not having cleanup or sketch upon sketch and usually not needing too much concept art due to having lots of inspiration or getting the idea in my head before and as I draw usually results in quick but pretty good drawings. I get that it's not easy for everyone, but if you're starting out art, train into your brain that you don't need mass-layers and concepts. Keep it minimal, one to three on concepts, cleanup and sketch, and make sure to keep things thick so you can adjust easily on the lineart. I absolutely love these tips btw! I wanted to put in my own advice, but this is super-helpful.

One of my biggest challenges in improving my art is making my pieces more dynamic and interesting to look at. Your analytical approach to solving this hurdle makes a lot of sense to me. I especially appreciate how you considered the individual characters’ personalities instead of just copying the cool effects in your studies. This is actually so inspiring. I need to work on more dynamic, fluid poses. I do disagree with you on one thing though, you said you were more of a thief than an artist, but isn’t that just that being an artist? We look at something, pick certain features we like, then incorporate that into our own work; that’s how we get our style to begin with? So that’s absolutely nothing wrong with doing this. It just means you are capable of understanding what you’re looking at.
