I would actually connect the bottom end to the river properly, to actually have a decent water flow and to enable ships to travel up into this safe haven of a harbour. You could do a million things in here. Terraces, inns, waterparks, sailboats, harbour for recreational motorboats and docking for bulk cargo ships.

Always thought about building the harbors at the sea and not so inland, but could be a possibility for sure. As for the other things, I guess we'll have to wait until custom assets come out lol

@@T4rgetGaming Yeah, C:S2 is _severely_ lacking in that department. But Freshwater-transport is seriously a thing. I don't know why they kind of omitted it even in game one. It is always saltwater transports.

@@StaK_1980 Towboat Pilot here: CS1 and CS2 have grossly overlooked towboats and barges as a HUGE transport option for goods. Just sayin. There was a semi-decent mod for CS1, but it wasn't great. Ferry crossings for automobile traffic is missing, too. They're not as common these days, but they still exist as an alternative to bridges.

@@StaK_1980The reason that boats are mostly omitted is similar to the reason why aircraft are implemented in a limited fashion. The game engine is designed around road networks and boats and aircraft behave almost nothing like cars and trucks on roads. In open water, or even more so when flying, the agents can basically go anywhere which means their AI has to be purpose made, rather than adapted from the road mechanics, or you have ships which behave like trains, basically being on rails. Even the train/tram networks behave quite differently than you'd expect, especially if you've played games like transport fever which have the opposite problem, where cars and road vehicles behave too much like trains. You can imagine if cims could simply hop in a boat and travel anywhere then you might be inventivised to build nothing but canals and all the work that went into making the traffic simulations for roads would go to waste! It would be bizzare to see boats neatly queing at intersections waiting for traffic lights. I think we might see water taxis and ferries but as far as small boats I think something like the sunset harbour dlc for cities 1 (so ploppable fishing industry which spawns fishing boats and some decorative boats for your harbours) would be about as good as we're likely to get.

YES! This episode did it for me! Not too fast, not too many sped up sequences, just good old T4rget problem solving! Pacing was PERFECT, reminded me of the good old days when I would sit on the edge of my seat, following along as T4rget would artistically conceive and shape complex intersections and impressive city structures in pure Vanilla gameplay, explaining each and every train of thought along the way - this series could finally become a worthy successor to your winter city! I do really hope T4rget won't lose interest again 😢 Thank you T4rget for all your work, time and effort! 👍👍👍

Thank you for the great series. The dam was challenging. Especially when it came to increasing the power output. I tried increasing the water flow too. While it did increase the power output of about 20 MW. It also increased outflow water that started creeping over the edge of the road. After rebalancing the canal I tried an alternate method for increasing the power output. I ended up digging a 50 brush size channel along the face of the dam on the outtake side. I can’t tell how deep I dug but it is a lot deeper than the deepest point of the circular area before the canal. When I started my output was maybe 1MW. Now it varies between 140 and 250 MW. I have no idea why it varies, but it does. I did the same to the lower dam. There I used a brush size of 10 to keep the channel inside of the shadow line of the dam. You have to look hard to see the channel. Output on the lower dam is between 4 and 6 MW

21:45 keep that bridge please! I love it! Cities sometimes do go overboard with a bridge design to make it more prominent of a landscape in a city. I think it could be the centerpiece of that area

To answer your concern at 21:50. I'm from Los Angeles, and we have canals with bridges like that everywhere, even over neighborhoods! I actually advise against the flat type, unless you can get some sort of decoration in. Since its vanilla, make all spans look the same, but NOT the horizontal design.

You could force the water level to raise by building the secondary dam at a slightly higher height, I've had to do something similar and it was pretty satisfying to make the water level be close to what it would sit at in real life.

The canal looks good, maybe you make the water landing area for the dam deeper to increase the output, that way it will serve both the purpose of retaining water and generating electric. A nice semi forested park around the damn would be nice!
@T4rgetGaming10 ай бұрын
I could play a bit with it, but the output can't be too high otherwise it will probably flood the area. Yes, I think a park and/or something to make use of the pool like a water treatment plant or nuclear central would be nice.

I think it would look nice if some water walls were made on the sides of the dam downstream, so that the entire canal would have roads and walls on the sides. but I'm not sure if it would work well to place the dam so that both sides can connect to the roads at a perpendicular angle.

For the bridge comment near the end, I'd actually disagree, there's precedent for it--look at Millennium Bridge in Denver CO's heart of downtown over the relatively small South Platte River. It's directly next to Union Square and 16th Street Mall, two major landmarks of the downtown city, which aligns nicely with the circuitboard's canal going through downtown and with the possible addition of a tech institute, I'd say that even if it is "overengineered", it's a stunning landmark for when the city is more fully built out towards that area.

Water flow is such a complex problem to solve in Cities Skylines Just a quick tought: you might want to build a secondary dam at the other "leg" of the upper river, at the very same height as the one you have. This will ensure that the water is always at same level and you don't lose flow to to other free flowing stream, then both dams will generate more power and you'll have a more predictable flow
