Hi Dan, i'm Indonesian. I am so sorry for what happened to you. i can not deny that there are some percentage of bad cops in Indonesia, but not all of it. The drug scam motive is mainly to scare you so you give them more money, it is not likely that they will put you in jail or even death sentence for a drug that they put in your car, but it is still not okay. i will try to tell the goverment personels to check on Sumbawa's police personels. .. All that aside, thank you for sharing your story.. i hope we can welcome you with a better experience next time :) All love.

As an Indonesian, this is really embarrassing for the country but I will not defend the people that put you through the ordeal. The road accident that you experienced is not uncommon because some motorcyclists will suddenly switch to the wrong side of the road just to get ahead of cars, and yes this causes fatal accidents. It's sad to say that in more isolated areas, the police will defend the perpetrator even if it's not your fault just because they are (more) injured. Indonesia is still rife with corruption and even tourist destinations are not free from it. Yes, Indonesians are known to be friendly, but there are also the deceptive few who will target unaware tourists. You are brave to share your story because I hope your video will reach the people with power to take action. I'm glad that you made it out and I'm sorry that you had to experience that.

@Thr3eB6 жыл бұрын
So you and your friends didn't have any weed for the whole trip? I find this hard to believe. 1. You ran over a local, likely ruining his life. In the story you only give this person a moment's mention. 2. I'm 99% sure you and your surfer buddies were smoking weed left and right during your trip. 3. You decided you and your friend were above the local laws and did not serve your sentence. Dan you know in your heart you did wrong. You ran someone over, likely while drunk or high after partying. You had drugs in a place you shouldn't of had drugs. I understand that the laws and punishments in this place are overzealous, but the least you can do is send money regularly to the person you ran over, and you better not start a go fund me- send your own money. Got it.

I remember your newspaper because one of my relatives who lives in Bali showed it to me & asked me about 2 young men with blonde hair arrested for something illegal action. I didn't know this whole time it was you all along Dan so I really appreciate for telling this story. Indonesian police in general are very strict and also can be used oppression towards foreigners because of many history bad dilemma that involves with politics and democracy. You were very lucky to escaped through the police because you would of been shot if you were found & sentenced to lifetime prison. I'm glad you've escaped from the situation. I would like to talk to you someday about your story in more depth and how in that time situation was a bit more dangerous in 2009. Cheers!

For you foreigners who are about to travel to indonesia, here's some of the road rules: 1. The locals are always right, no need to explain what's the story on your side. 2. The motorcycles are always right. 3. If you hit a livestock (sheep, cow, etc or even cats, yes cats are sacred), don't stop, run away as fast as you can. Crashing into livestock is much worse than human. 4. The road signs are not legit, the locals have their own rules about the road. One way road can become two way if they say so.

Hey Dan, Indonesian here. Hope you feel a bit better now. I live in Bali for 7 good years and spent most of my time working in the surf industries. So I know a thing or two about what usually happen. To be honest with you, even if they trapped you successfully, it doesn't mean you're automatically get the death penalty (god forbid). But you will eventually get into trouble dealing with those mobs. First and foremost, the scam was a way to ask you for more money. Similar tactic happens regularly to Indonesians as well, not exclusively to foreigners (although it's safe to assume they'll get more money from foreigners). Usually they catch you then take you to ATM and force you to withdraw cash. If you resist (or if you don't have enough money as they wish), then you are in trouble. Good to know though that you guys decide to run away, and succeed. #ACAB

Well yeah, indonesia before 1999 was very very very horrible, even for locals, and more horrible for locals living in remote areas. Even in 2010 there wasn't any good and cheap internet, not enough infrastructures in so-called good place like Java island, corrupt authorities. Just imagine how bad it is living in a third world like I've been for my whole life 🤣

A.P if everything happened for a reason that would mean that every event to come is written in stone, meaning life is ultimately pointless and we are all just puppets in a play greater than ourselves, the meaning/purpose of which we will never know... Look into infinite parallel universes theory, that is a bit more optimistic

Drug scams aside brus, the death penalty in South East Asia for drugs is real. So for those.who tend to get high while travelling, even if you dont get scammed, dont be overly chill with drugs. Even a joint could wind you dead given the wrong timing and cop. Please, please be careful when abroad.
@More_Row6 жыл бұрын

Are these 2 guys above me serious? Indonesia is already a third world country, having drugs wouldn't make the country better and could lead the country to be like African countries, and I have a crazy idea, why don't people just stop bringing drugs here? Crazy right?
@More_Row6 жыл бұрын
7 cc Hg Are you for real? Death penalty for possession of recreational use. Are you fucking disturbed? I don’t care how low rank the country has on the world index. What if some poor student gets coerced into muling? Does he deserve life in jail or death? Fix your damn country.
@FuadiansyahSamsuri6 жыл бұрын
+Moriarty Vivaldi I need to correct this. The death penalty is for the drug dealers and smugglers.... Not the ones who uses the drug...
@sixact96476 жыл бұрын
As an Indonesian, I am disappointed with the police institution. The drug trap is true, and some police do it. and they do it cause they want to take money from the victim. The matter of accidents that happened, in Indonesia no matter you are right or wrong, if you use the car and you hit people, police and even citizens definitely blame you, let alone they see you are not native and not a moslem. And you are in Sumbawa time, the place is still primitive and for your information the island was once a place of terrorist nest. city name "Bima" You can google it. Sumbawa is still not okay for travelling. Lombok is better (gili trawangan, gili air, & gili meno) Sorry for my bad english
