Back in the 60's when I was a kid, we had a mill on the river that was a bowl factory, making bowls out of ash, we call the owner old man Rice. I gave my saw to father to sharpen, he tried it and said I must have been working for old man Rice because he said it was cutting bowls, I know the felling.

That’s funny pulling hard to the side. I was actually pretty pleased with my saw it was cutting a lot better than previously. Chains can be so frustrating you have them cutting great then one foreign object and you’re done. Thanks for stopping by.

Definitely sounded way better the second time

Yes it did for sure. If everything works out I’m going to get it out tomorrow after church and start doing some mods. Just playing around having a little fun.

Adjusting the carb sure did help! Great job Ben👍👍
@OGAOutdoors9 ай бұрын
Yes it did. Hopefully after a little break in time and a few other mods it will come to life.

Always nice to increase the life of a chain and congratulations on winning the saw!!
@OGAOutdoors9 ай бұрын
Thanks Obie I think I’m going to like the saw after some tinkering. It takes more time and effort to maintain old chains but it’s worth it.
@Rolog219 ай бұрын
Congratulations on the win. Well deserved. With your Echo, I think you said it’s not the bar. When you said that did you file down edge of rails?
@OGAOutdoors9 ай бұрын
Thanks I’m going to have some fun with the little saw. Yeah I try to file the rails occasionally especially when I can feel a little lip on them. I put on a new chain and it cut perfect. I’ll just keep filing and cutting. Thanks for stopping by.

Seemed to cut ok. Just like other new saws, should get better once broken in..😉👍

Yes I’ve got to get a few tanks of gas through it then we’ll go from there. Take care enjoy your weekend.

Congratulations on the new saw!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day

Thanks David I’m good on the hydration. Now if I can just stay safe those bus kids will be wound up on Friday afternoon.

I'm located in Tennessee but have a friend off the Chattahoochee that has a ton of wood available...told him I would see if you all were close

I appreciate that sir. I’m in the northwest part of the state about 45 minutes from Huntsville.

I finally got my 4409 splitfire in . I got it on the excavator but not all hooked up . This rain here in Nc is a mess . I have started KZbin but have a lot to learn there . Yadkin Valley Outdoors. I am definitely going to make some videos with it .
@OGAOutdoors9 ай бұрын
It should be a really good machine. Looking forward to seeing it in action. Hopefully the rain will stop so you can get to it. Thanks for stopping by.

@OGAOutdoors9 ай бұрын
Yeah I will definitely give it a shot on the smaller stuff. Hopefully I’ll be able to make a few modifications and get it dialed in soon. Thanks for stopping by.

I had the strato gasket mod done before I fired mine up. Let it run rich for the first tank before tuning it. Man it rips now!
@OGAOutdoors9 ай бұрын
It’s far from tuned in just a little leaner.

great gift Ben, like you, I get all the life I can out of my chains.

Couldn't have asked for a nicer and more humble person to win the saw than Ben.

Yes for sure those things aren’t cheap.

WOO HOO! Finally get to see the saw you won! For your viewers, the NH843 is a ripper once you do the strato gasket mod. Love my little NH843.
@OGAOutdoors9 ай бұрын
Yeah I’ll have to check out the gasket mod. I did exactly what you saw in the video nothing else. As of yet. Thanks again for the saw.

@OGAOutdoors can't wait to hear how different the saw feels to you once the is gaslet modded and tuned!

I have two cs 590s, great saws. I also have junk chains for dirty wood. Good video, as always. Thanks, Ben, for making it.
@OGAOutdoors9 ай бұрын
Chris they are for sure hard to beat. Junk chains are great as long as you can keep them cutting. Thanks for stopping by take care.
@Christie-gp2cy9 ай бұрын
Hi Ben. You are always working hard! I was just wondering, have you ever thought of building a simple log cabin with some of those logs you have cut?
@OGAOutdoors9 ай бұрын
Christie actually I have not. If I did I would probably decide I need more firewood and just start cutting lol. Thanks so much for watching.
@thefirewooddoctor9 ай бұрын
I've talked about how to buck logs with mud and gravel stuck good to them. I'll cut down into the log, roll it over, then finish it off with an underbuck to spit the dirt and gravel away from the cut. Now to extend the life of the chains, have you tried going down one file size? You lose the shape of the gullet over time, costing you 3-4sec in a cut of oak say 20in diameter. Go down one file size once past halfway in the cutter length. Might take a couple of resharp jobs to make it cut like a new one.
@OGAOutdoors9 ай бұрын
I have used the smaller files. That seems to work pretty good.

If those Echo saws are out of warranty, pull the limiter caps and do a muffler mod. They wake up a bit. Wish I had never traded in my Echo 590 on a top-handle saw that I have since sold.
@OGAOutdoors9 ай бұрын
I did the muffler mod on my Shindaiwa 591 and pulled the caps. I need to do my 590 as well just don’t have the time. Especially now since I have this other saw to work on. Lol

do tree service companies have a hard time finding places to take the trees they remove?
@OGAOutdoors9 ай бұрын
I’m not sure that said they must not have too hard of a time because they aren’t knocking down my door. I have a few that drop here they just aren’t in my area a lot.
@Sethhaun789 ай бұрын
No offense but the 2 saws on the video bedore you hit click..and the what is says is simple ...go get a 462 ....being honest..3 years ago you could get 2 572 for same as one 462..but seriously..its game changer ..
