I never realized just how many layers of underpainting went into a large piece like this. It also makes sense to use the student grade stiffer pastels for those under-layers and save the creamy Sennelier for the top layer. This was so educational, and thank you so much for sharing the Met as a resource! Love your channel!

I am finding your commentary a bit not polite toward this great artist, who showed you all the the process over here! Maybe, you would like to see for real the texture of her masterpieces for a better appreciation of her fine art with oil pastel! Being a pastelliste myself with oil pastel. In fact, oil pastel as fine art process is not simple of mastering. Indeed, it's a medium that seems simple as we are saying « hello », but how difficult and arduous to master artistically do. She had study art at fine art school. Hope my commentary would helpful to understanding the approach in the process of her artistic work. From Quebec in Canada 🇨🇦, Let’s be peaceful with civility as the rule of art! 😊❤

You are good in painting but copying is not an art, doing your own art is a real art, but thanks for showing us all the process. 🙂
@diediedice8 ай бұрын
Yes it is. Even the greatest artists of all time made master copies of already existing works. You learn from them. Also, taking inspiration from references doesn't make it copying, it's still your own art.
