It’s crazy how slept on pantheon is. I remember trying him a few times with his meta full lethality build and it just never felt good. Then I came across spear a year or more ago and decided to try again with his build/playstyle. It was like a switch flipped because he felt amazing where he still shreds but had good defence stats. Pantheon also became one of my favourite picks where I got mastery 7 faster than any other champion. Thank spear for the lawls and education ❤

I almost never build him full lethality, but what I do build is essence reaver first item almost every game(unless I'm behind), because even presence of mind does not give enough mana for me to always be ready to respond to my team(I play mid panth, cuz he is broken there). And essence reaver also gives nice splitpush potential(because it damages towers and inhibs, as well as restores mana)

Pantheon going full damage build never felt right. Most of the time, you don't even have damage to oneshot anyone, even after a full combo. And you have to fully commit each time. Either you go 1 for 1,or you just inted.

The problem with Pantheon is that too many people just outsource their build and rune decisions to some third party app and have no concept of adapting a build to the current game state. So they end up with some shit like Conq + full lethality into a 300 armor tank. When a champion's kit is inherently simple, it becomes all the more important to be able to use your brain to maximize it.
