Something I've always wanted is more placable items. I've recently been playing the TerraFirmaCraft mod (specifically AutoTerraFirmaCraft) and I love how many items you can place down. You'll always find sticks and twigs scattered around under trees, loose rocks reflecting the stone type underground (which I think would be great in vanilla) and small ores above ore veins (which could help teach beginners in vanilla what biomes have abundances of certain resources, and the small ores could be smelted into nuggets) something else I love is how you can place ingots on the ground in ingot piles, which would make exploring shipwrecks and other structures much more interesting, along with other stuff scattered around. All of this makes the world so much more immersive, and provides different ways of gathering items for more progression routes.

You know, it's really hilarious how you described your ideas for changes for the Wither. I'll get to that in a bit, but I'm first going to start with outdated information you have on the Bedrock wither. About it being worryingly hard: it's not. Not anymore. It definitely can still offer a challenge, but not one that is too hard for people to handle. The Bedrock Wither's reputation mostly comes from the broken state of Bedrock edition, where long ago, the wither effect it dished out ignored absorption hearts and could nullify regeneration, AND the Wither had a chance of becoming invisible AND invincible if you unloaded it by dying. And that's not even the end of it. The true core challenge was the fact that the Protection enchantment prior to 1.19.2 did not defend from potion effects. Meaning that the wither effect dished out by the boss dealt an accumulated 20 hearts (that's dying twice over) of damage every time it hit, unless you used a turtle master potion or an enchanted gapple or if you managed to keep a cow safeguarded during your *_entire_* fight. Add on the lack of saturation-boosted natural regen, and you have a monster that simply cannot be defeated in a war of attrition, but whose entire first phase is designed to discourage a blind charge. Taking on the Wither in a fight in this era required an entire inventory stuffed with potions, milk buckets, gapples and enchanted gapples, instant potions and regen potions and several totems even for experienced players. Unsurprising why recordings of actual Bedrock Wither fights were rarely ever recorded outside of Java-Bedrock comparison videos(i checked), too many ended in genuinely tragic failure. Now though, as long as you have at least ~12 points of protection(full Prot 3 armor) and at minimum iron armor, people can take it on with regular golden apples, some milk and fairly suboptimal weapons. TLDR: It was impossible in the past due to several bugs stacking, but now it's balanced. Speaking of phases, though (and this is why your suggestion is hilarious to me), the Bedrock Wither's phases are noticeably different from the Java edition's. To start off, though, I'll describe general properties: it doesn't heal itself and its fire rate is very slow at first but gets faster through the fight. - So in its first phase, It floats up quite high, and stands still to shoot a burst of skulls at the player before zooming off to another high-off-the-ground point. The player has no way of reaching it, making it very clear to the player that they are intended to attack if from range. _(Sounds familiar?)_ - Let's continue. As mentioned, it already doesn't heal. However, before the explosion that initiates its second phase, the Wither come crashing down to the ground, which gives solid ground for its wither skeletons to move on. From then on, the Wither stays vertically at around a block above the player's head, keeping it in reach of the player's melee attacks. _(Where have I heard this before??)_ - It doesn't typically fly around anymore but instead its infamous dash attack is now its foremost movement option. After two salvos of skulls, it initiates a dash attack. This reduces its general movement giving players clear opportunities to target it. _(What does this make me think of????)_ - It also always fires off a blue skull in a random direction during each of its volleys of skulls, freeing it from being trapped for too long by anything other than the unmovable, unbreakable bedrock blocks. _(OH NOW I SEE!!!!!1!!1!)_ yeah, you basically came to the same conclusion as pocket edition developers did 8 years ago. I kind of just beat this funny coincidence over the head with a cartoonishly oversized sledgehammer, but it makes sense that they came up with those ideas when the platform the Wither would be coming on was still laggy and considered unwieldy, especially with the much smaller screens of the time. Also don't discount mobile combat nowadays. While navigation is indeed tougher, and the typically smaller screen more challenging, they can land hits on whatever they see on the screen as long as they stay in range. With that and the longer reach of bedrock, things even out a lil bit. All in all, the Bedrock Wither, with its vastly different behaviour, really feels like a video game boss. It has readable patterns, it progresses in difficulty, and has clearly defined stages dramatically punctuated by powerful explosions. Its predicability, its lack of movement in the second stage, and the pauses between bursts of skull shots, means that when surviving the wither effect is easier, the boss fight comes out being kind of easier than the java fight even with the inflated health bar. Anyways, that's my lil rant about the Wither fully over. This is almost all from memory. I might have hyperfixated on the Wither for a few months, does it show?

I think this series is incredibly commendable. There hasn't been any other "fixing minecraft" video that I have nearly 100 percent agreed with the changes on. And to think I just found it on a whim while trying to fix minecraft myself with my own modpack. You make it very clear that you actually understand how certain game elements would affect others, and that there are issues that people never talk about: everyone has talked about the bed making night too easy, but I've heard nothing about the problem with multi-player. I cannot wait to see this mod, and this community, grow and to play with it myself. I will say, though I very much enjoy the idea of the dragon spawning endermites to make endermen attack the player, it not very clear that the mites are the cause. Base game endermites and men don't cause this frenzy effect, so perhaps the spawned dragon mite would be slightly different. Its texture perhaps mostly the same but visually corrupted; bright purple veins like the fireball explosion, different colored eyes, and/or etc. Once it spawns, maybe there's a small particle effect: different than the fireball, yet still very "dragon." Then, when the endermen kill it, they go through a similar effect; eyes change color, new veins around their head, whateva. Maybe there could even be a new enderman type: one way less common than regular endermen and permanetly hostile, but one that has been under the dragon's "mite control" (pun not intended) for a very long time. Just an idea 💡! PS: that ending was jarring funny lol. Not to insult your religion, just thought it was funny to watch an hour long minecraft video and it ends with that lol. Can't wait to see more
@GreenJab3 ай бұрын
Endermen do try to attack endermite already, which is why ender ender farms work, I just want to expand on it by making enderman that kill an endermite become hostile to players. sure this could be shown via a texture or something but that’s not as important as the mechanic itself. I was just trying to give endermite another use and also make the endermen on the island have a way to be apart of the fight

Regarding early game progression: We run a datapack on our server that disables stone tools and chainmail, and replaces them with copper gear. wood pickaxes become capable of mining copper, and finally iron can only be found at Y20 and below (though is found in larger and more abundant veins. We also made a change to where the recipe for charcoal is removed, but in return coal drops 2-5 pieces. we also made animals and mobs drop significantly more resources (not food, but things like leather or gunpowder) however the catch is that players have to actually perform the kill, mobs drop nothing if they die without a player hitting them. the players on my server have reported that this datapack has made the game more fun than they ever remember early game being prior.

To actually fix the game takes a level of thought, creativity, and experience that I rarely see in other videos. Too often I see band-aid solutions that don't get to the root of the problem, or massive overhauls that change the identity of Minecraft to a totally different game (usually Terraria).

Wow. It was such a great trilogy, that I had that feeling you experience when watching a great film or story come to an end. You just hope you could see more and continue this adventure for a long time. Anyways, great closure. The most impressive feat of this three part essay is understanding the "core minecraft experience". Indeed, as a community, minecraft content is incredibly varied, with wide categories such as casual singleplayer enjoyers, redstone wizards, PvP-only warriors, crazy fast speedrunners, building artists, or modded aficionados and an immense breadth of very niche ones, like seedfinders. One could say that this variety makes the experiences so different that they could be considered different games, but I'm a firm believer that everyone within the minecraft community shares what we can call a "core minecraft experience". I think that for the majority of the playerbase this is linked with how they first played minecraft, the vanilla survival experience. In my view, the vision proposed in the video hits the nail on the head with what the "core minecraft experience" should be. Instead of pushing the vanilla game towards a specific playstyle, you understand that it is attracting all kinds of player types, and needs to leave the door open to all playstyles. I love that your improvements are not focused on creating something entirely new (which is what I think a lot of "X Biome update" videos focus on, as if only piling new things would magically solve the broken aspects of the game), but improving the mechanics we already have. More than that, the changes would make the survival experience far more enjoyable, and guide the players through the many mechanics that enhance their creativity, and to the communities and niches that suits them the most. Today's rather linear "optimal" way of playing survival minecraft is a reason why i don't like playing it, even with friends. As that feels like a speedrun to the ender dragon, just to have nothing left to do when you've maxed your gear out, because I, and people with whom i play, see it as the one goal of minecraft. The problem with that is that you're incentivized to get creative only after you've maxed out your gear, and it can be difficult to cope with such aimless freedom of choice, leading to the feeling that "there's nothing left to do". I feel like the changes you propose leads to the game feeling less linear, and incentivize you to get creative way earlier, while still gunning for the optimal set of gear, as you have to make choices (especially thanks to the very clever enchanting system you've proposed). As a point of interest, I would raise the fact that the more rules you add, the more different the core experience of minecraft can be, which is a double edged sword. On one hand it allows for more flexibility and accessibility, on the other hand, they could divide the community on the subject of which ruleset is "true minecraft", which would be a consequence of too many rules making the core experiences too different (I think the presets largely solve the problem). In the end, I would say that the game you've fixed is a game I would be so excited to play, thank you for this amazing work ! P.S. I like the humble demeanour, and the in-depth analysis, which a lot of superficial "I fixed minecraft" videos are sorely lacking.
@GreenJab3 ай бұрын
I appreciate the long response, and the whole "speedrun to dragon and max gear, only to start getting creative, feeling overwhelmed and going there is nothing to do" is something I very much relate with. Alot of the issues I address have come from a personal experience and even though many people have different experiences, we all have have the underlying core experience which is what I am trying to target. I'm glad you enjoyed watching my videos and hope for more, but the more I work on videos, the less I am working on the mod, and at this point I want to actually start fixing it rather than merely talking about it. And then one day you will be able to play with it rather than merely hear about it.

In easy difficulty bats could also drop membranes, potentially allowing players to skip the first night if they venture into caves. As for the dragon, one thing I would love is some indication of how many crystals are left aside from the heal beam. Perhaps when you destroy a crystal some of the obsidian in the tower becomes crying obsidian, which repairs when a new crystal is summoned with a new dragon. Perhaps this could be an accessibility toggle or tied to difficulty as well. The world border is a great idea. I also feel if the wither has two stages, the dragon should have two distinct stages as well, she kinda does with the crystals but not really. The bed damage could also scale with difficulty and since most speedrunners play on easy, perhaps it won't nerf single cycles too much for those that still want to use the classic beloved strategies. Leaderboards would have to be split so that hard players who take on the dragon genuinely have fair competition. Best of both worlds. For the egg, summoning a new dragon could potentially spawn a new egg upon each defeat. Alternatively it could be extremely rarely generated in a rare room variant of end cities "abandoned incubators" following the theory that after hunting the dragons to extinction the ancient builders deeply regretted it and tried to fix their mistake. Perhaps they failed but the eggs are still there. I feel like that idea needs work but it definitely follows the lore of the game and I don't think it breaks vanilla. The dragon is just a trophy item though so it depends, devaluing the egg sorta makes it feel like it should also have a use because it loses some of its trophy charm. About sleeping, the game needs to help guide the player in how the new sleep mechanics work since they aren't very intuitive. Also, I HATE the nausea effect, perhaps it could just make the player sluggish and move very slowly or something instead of giving nausea. That being said it's completely player controlled so I suppose it isn't a big deal. I also feel like hunger should drop with sleep since right now it feels like sleep has no effect on the player at all, making it feel less incorporated into the game and more just a tacked on nighttime remedy. Which, to be fair, it is lol.

Nice write up. Many, many interesting mechanics especially night and moon phases. About the tailpiece. The hint word is "sand box game". Not mechanically but conceptually. The game does give some sets of content of its own but player need to come up with their own rules, aesthetic, role play and objective or any combinations of those after some play through. That is obviously not easy. Minecraft is more of world painter/builder in its core and anything lore related content it comes with is merely a frame. Player interprets that frame and paint the picture.

Ahhh, you went with making Insomnia a true potion effect. Good choice! I had thought of that a while back but at the time I decided against it since I felt using milk to cancel it was too cheesable. Now that I know you can just lay in bed to cancel it, I'm much more lax on also being able to use milk to cure it. My only issue is eating Phantom membranes to cause it manually, that still means you have to get Insomnia normally at least once or deal with cat drop rng. Personally, I think instead you should just be able to brew a Potion of Regeneration with a Fermented Spider Eye to make a Potion of Insomnia, now it's a somewhat lategame way to take control of Insomnia rather a strange, somewhat unintuitive method. My other issue is the Mining Fatigue-like effect upon first getting Insomnia, I think it would get annoying to see that effect every hour after not sleeping, perhaps a more subtle and less intrusive effect would be better.
@GreenJab3 ай бұрын
the mining fatigue effect thing is only for when you first get it and when it increases in levels. it not something that will appear over and over again. also I don’t get your argument about the membrane? that wouldn’t be the main way to get insomnia, just an alternative.
@editfox95683 ай бұрын
@@GreenJabThat's fair about the mining fatigue effect, I suppose that's still less annoying then suddenly getting nibbled out of nowhere by multiple Phantoms like how it is currently. My argument about eating the membrane is specifically about it being an alternative. Since the only way to get this alternative method is to first engage with the regular method, and the fact that it is dropped by the Phantom itself, people will be less inclined to make use of the method and use up the stash of membranes they just got. Plus, in my opinion, the Phantom Membrane just doesn't look edible to me, I don't think most would even figure out to eat it to get Insomnia. As unintuitive as brewing is, I think someone stumbling on using Fermented Spider Eyes on a Regen Potion would be much more likely than eating a membrane.

For the most part I agree with much that you say, especially since it’s primarily related to the mid-late game or simple / reasonable improvements like with ores / underground biomes; though regarding the early game progression I think it’d be better to leave things as they are or possibly implement a hybrid system, like you throw away wood / stone tools, but must use the smithing table to go from Iron to Diamond and finally Netherite. I just don’t think it logically makes sense to use wood tools to craft stone and then stone for iron since they’re pretty different materials. Though another reason is it could over complicate things, so overall I think the current progression system is the ideal. The only changes I would make though is bumping iron up to 800 durability and add in copper tools/armor at the 250 point, then make copper a requirement to mine iron and some other ores (similar to iron being a requirement for diamonds/emerald). Then maybe a special quality about gold to make it more useful is to be an alloy metal, similar to how it’s used to craft netherite another tool/armor progression could be copper + gold = rose gold with 600 durability and similar faster mining speed / enchantability to make it on par with iron. Other than that I’d like backpacks / knapsacks added to the early-mid game, so I can have a shulker-box-like inventory without the endgame material requirement.
@GreenJab3 ай бұрын
I agree early game should be left as is, it was just a bunch of people were wanting.. something. As you state it gets a bit overly complicated, and that's one the least complicated ideas I have seen to try 'fix' early game. Copper tools won't help, it will just be the next stone pickaxe you throw away after getting 3 iron, and now iron would be even more powerful if it had that much durability. For gold, when I said buff it, I already had stuff in mind. Basically give it durability of wood (so double what it is now) and break the same blocks and iron pick can, when it comes to enchanting tho, when used in an enchanting table, all enchants will gain a level (where possible) allowing for stuff like fortune 4 on it but remember its only a gold pickaxe
@killerjdog513 ай бұрын
Yeah, that sounds pretty good. I think that adding Rose Gold as an iron alternative could allow for a parallel progression path though. Like instead of focusing on durability upgrades, though that would increase regardless, the alternative could focus on speed and enchanting or fortune/luck. I don’t know how to best implement it, but if Mojang ever added a late game End resource I’d like it to be an alternative to netherite instead of being tacked onto the end of the chain.

My honest opinion is that quasi-connectivity is a major detriment to new players trying to use pistons for the first time. Mojang should literally just make a new piston that is quasi-connective and fix the classic piston. They could even use amethyst in the recipe and market it as some sort of wireless Redstone tech.

I wholeheartedly agree with the Wild Update being a pretty big disappointment. The deep dark is really cool, but the whole point of the update when it was originally revealed was to provide refreshes to old biomes that made them more immersive and unique. But then when the update came out, it didn’t do that AT ALL. It’d be REALLY nice if the overworld biomes actually DID get that uniqueness and immersiveness that was originally promised. Especially seeing as all those Nether biomes were SUPER unique. Possibly in the form of having unique mob spawns for different biomes, like in the Nether. It’s REALLY weird how the only unique hostile mobs are the husk, the stray, and now the bogged. But the nether mobs are overflowing with uniqueness!

I believe you can just get in a bed & get out, without having to skip the night & it will stop phantoms from spawning for another 3 days, I think its a pretty neat function tbh, because it does account for multiplayer but the issue being not many people know of this. I think Mojang could expand on this feature by maybe making it so by skipping a night, phantoms stop spawning for another 15 days or so. So, I think Mojang shouldnt like majorly change how phantoms work already? and just keep it how it is with slight adjustments.

Personally, I still think the easiest and best way to extend the early game is to make copper tools, weapons, and armor an in-between of stone and iron. Then bump gold, iron, and some other ores down to requiring copper to mine. Gold would need some changes to make it a proper alternative to iron, though. Granted, I'd also like to see gold have it's durability upped, but not by too much. Just enough so it's actually usable or on par with stone. It gives it a nice interplay where iron is inherently better but less enchantable, while gold is inherently worse, but much easier to invest in. Granted, I think adding bronze is where this vibe check fails, so we can just keep it at copper. We can expand this, too, by including tiers. So if "early" tier is copper/stone, mid tier is iron/gold, late tier is diamond, and end tier is netherite, then we can add chainmail to mid tier. I could also see an argument being made for emerald armor being added to the late tier, but I think that just... invalidates diamond gear unless we made emerald armor inherently inferior, but still technically at the same tier. Villagers are too op for emerald armor to be added at diamond tier. Even if it were, I'd make it so netherite still required diamond rather than emerald. However, if we're adding chainmail, then I think the easiest way to do it would be as an inbetween of gold and iron armor, which it kinda already is. Have it be crafted from iron nuggets rather than iron ingots. Making it the more cost-effective, but slightly more tedious way to use your iron for armor. Since you could get a full set of armor out of 3 ingots. I do like your idea of the armors requiring the previous tier, though, or at least requiring leather armor as a base. However, micro-crafting like requiring previous tools/armor to craft the next tier does cause the change to fail the vanilla vibe check. So, instead, I think it'd be better if all armor required some leather. That, or giving leather armor more uses in and of itself, which would be my preferred approach. Maybe it reduces stamina drain on sprinting and gives mounts a slight speed buff? Make it more useful for getting around your world even once you've got access to iron and diamond.
@GreenJab2 ай бұрын
I have heard many times copper gear but I have never felt it to be a necessary change. All it will accomplish is needing to find 3 copper to make the copper pick to get 3 iron and then it will be like it never even existed. You could try to make it interesting via adding oxidization and that effects it but still it doesn't really do much. For gold I have already upped the base durability to that of wood, but its bonus is that when you enchant it it gains a level, even into super enchant territory like eff 6 which means insta-mining without haste, but not for very long. If it wasn't obvious in the way I phrased it, I don't fully agree with requiring previous tiers either, it was more *if* I had to (since many were asking), something along those lines would be the way I would
@wagz7812 ай бұрын
@@GreenJab That's valid. Granted, For me as a player, I'd probably wind up with copper tools for quite a while just due to my aversion to actually going down into the mines. I'm one of the odd people out when it comes to the cave update. Specifically, I think the cave generation got worse. Though a friend of mine just tells me I have abyssmal luck on that front. I'm sure we could workshop ideas to slow down the early game more, but you are correct in that it'd basically just add unnecessary tedium to transitioning to the rest of the game, for all intents and purposes.

imo sleeping shouldnt skip the night at all. Instead there should be incentive to plan for nights and have tasks available to do while inside your home. Sleeping should instead take you to a dream world. Notch originally intended for there to be a chance you go to the sky lands when you go to sleep. So maybe instead of making sleeping skip the night, it could just be another thing that can occupy your time while you're waiting for day time.

I think when it comes to redstone, why restrict it to just the overworld? Why not have redstone ore generate in the Nether & End? And maybe have redstone contraptions within each dimension's structures to go along side it. Also if there was a redstone parody with java & bedrock, I suggest changing java pistons to copper pistons for quasi-connectivity and adding iron pistons to go along side it. And the other way around for bedrock. What do you think of these ideas?
@GreenJab3 ай бұрын
Having a different piston (i.e. copper) has been something people have been suggesting even before copper was a thing. There aren't many structures in the vanilla game that would fit having redstone, especially in the nether or end, which is why I focused on the trial chamber, and brought up the existing jungle temple and ancient city.

I do wonder. What are requirements to make great boss fight in a sandbox like minecraft? For me, I think a good boss fight should be fair, well worth the effort and should be able to counter two of the player's abilities that being building and breaking blocks. Like how the ender dragon could phase through blocks or the wither breaking them. I think the elder guardians had the missed opportunity of being a boss fight do to the fact that it a prevent players from being able to break block. if they could counter players building, have their monuments revamped so they could fight properly, have a boss bar to represent all three of them and provide a renewable source of the heart of the sea then I could see them being a worthy boss fight. What do you think?

Kinda, but I don't want to 'force' them into being a boss, with health bars, as there are 3 of them and would make finding monuments even more obvious. The Ender Dragon changes are mostly bad ideas. The original fight being a PvE experience with a dragon centrepiece is fine. Bed cheesing is fine, its a very difficult strategy for newbies to employ successfully, as the explosion damage from beds also endangers the player. I don't think speedrunners will find any fight more engaging - look at speedruns of other games with elaborate bosses, its like an autoscroller for runners. The dragon being summoned on the island is good. An optional Ominous fight is good (provided the other means of obtaining Elytra are intact).

Hmm, good question. I think the game needs most something like the entire enchanting system overhaul but I don't see that is that is a bug change. Mojang have added some of the minor ones already like bundle item selection, space crafting and are working on the minecarts to an extent
