Very nice. You might get higher contrast in the pattern if you start etching at a lower grit and sanding up to higher grits in between etching cycles. I think Liam Hoffman starts etching at 600 grit on his damascus blades, but I'm not 100% sure on that. You could also try a super-strong coffee etch to increase the darkness of the 1084. Loved the vid and looking forward to seeing more.

Please take those gloves off... it makes handling the material much easier. Callouses are the only gloves you need buddy. And quit wasting so much material....nice ring

So... 17 minutes and 55 seconds to explain how you're not actually forging Damascus and only pattern welding steel? I'm certain now that literally anybody who says they can forge Damascus steel doesn't have a single clue of what they're talking about.

Why don't you just drill holes instead of demolishing the pattern when you use the hammer and punches? If the bar is the finished Damascus pattern and you're just cutting a ring out you would salvage more of the original pattern and just do stock removal like you did to finish it after you drill the holes vs punching them out! Just my suggestion and what I would do.
