Thank you for sharing your journey! Great to learn you can have a successful practice without 'niching down' too much. You mention short, medium and long term clients in your practice. I am wrapping up the first year of my psychodynamic therapist program and we had to do 4 practice sessions with 4 clients, so total 16 sessions. I liked the variety of issues these clients brought in. It did make me wonder how many sessions would be required for different type of problems clients will come with. From my study program I hear significant progress could be made in about 7 sessions. Of course this depends on type of problem and ability and willingness of client to do the work. I am curious to learn how you communicate with clients about the goal and expected duration of the therapy, evaluate progress/ effectiveness of the therapy and when you agree that the therapy can be concluded? What type of clients need long-term therapy? I can imagine a mix of short and long term clients would be ideal. Perhaps an idea for a future video 😅...

You’re really welcome about the video, thanks for saying and glad you found it helpful. Thanks for sharing some of your story too, always good to hear how someone is doing and how they’re finding the process of training and becoming a therapist. Really appreciate the ideas for a future video, I think they’re great and have started to think about them already. I think what makes for the best progress in therapy and how goals and progress are kept in mind and evaluated are so important, as is knowing when to end as you mention. Thanks again for the comments and feedback and I’ll post the video as soon as I’ve recorded it. In the meantime, hope it all continues to go well with the training and feel free to let me know how it’s going along the way, John-Paul
