Thank you for including careless mistakes- that has always been where I lose all my marks and there aren't any videos giving advice about how to fix it. It's extremely disappointing when I leave an exam feeling confident, then, I realise that I've lost marks on careless mistakes.
@manraj64933 жыл бұрын
Yea thats definitely the worst feeling. Because if u didn't study at all and don't understand the concepts, you already know that you're going to be getting a bad grade, so you don't feel all that bad when you do receive that low grade. But those times where you really try hard to grasp the concepts and understand them, but still get an average mark (lower than your minimal expectation) due to careless mistakes, it just hurts man.

I don't even have zoom classes for maths in our current lockdown so i say to myself i want to improve i will put in the time and so i self study, i use alot of youtube resources and other web sources and its fun for me because even though i may spend 3 hours on just my math weaknesses or my strengths i enjoy it because its not homework and there is no guideline. There has another driving force than to be something other than just needing to get the work done otherwise motivation and enjoyment decreases. I would say for school personally having really horrible math teachers in the past and non existent learning sessions now its very hard to learn and it almost puts you behind because of how well you are able to understand so this is why i choose other sources of self study, a good youtuber is the chemistry tutor anything you can think of, chemistry, physics, math he has it all with detailed or well enough for me; workings out and explanations also very clear to understand and is very helpful. Especially if you are sruggling with an particular concept or understanding.

For me what really helped is just simply making a lot of excersises instead of reading the theory. Once you kind of understand how an excersise works, you’ll also understand the test better. Making excersises a couple hours before the test also helped out a lot for me, because then you put your mind in this focused ‘excersise-making’ position
@jforjosh42543 жыл бұрын
One thing my maths teacher told our class was to go through examiner reports on past papers. This is a report on examiners making notes on questions that were well answered and questions that were poorly answered. They also include common wrong answers and common errors during calculations. Make sure you don’t make the same mistakes at the students did before you so you don’t drop marks!

Thanks for the video, Dineth. I love your non-rambling style. The advice is very practical with no psycho-babble bs about "believing in yourself" and crap like that. Yes, confidence is key but we get confident when we know the material. I am an unbeliever in exam stress/fever/sickness/panic or whatever. No one frets when they can answer the questions. The key to doing well in exams is knowing the material. I'll say this covers 80% of it. Avoiding mistakes takes the remaining 20%.

@@TheRealNiko We call it 'Maths' here in Australia (and other BrE countries), as in a shortened form of 'Mathematics'. Solving a question requires the application of multiple mathematical concepts, therefore, "Maths" is used. The original commenter also used the plural form of 'exam', so that cancels out. I think it's important to know that other regions use a different word-choice vocabulary, as trying to school someone purely based on their word-choice is quite ignorant to their own context (which I guess is slightly excusable based on your situation).

tysm, writing in 2 days and Ik I should've started earlier, but felt very unmotivated, I'm going to really try to understand and invest these 2 days completely trying to understand, like I really didn't understand anything and asked questions, the teacher gave me extra work which I completed and he decided not to mark it or give me feedback, but we did revision recently and I feel like I understand things I haven't understood before, I'm excited to study for math

Am I understanding correctly? 1. Try to understand the concepts, ask questions until you understand. Don't just do the procedures. 2. Solve problems to prove/test your understanding 3. Practice your weak areas 4. Write out your mistakes and become aware of them 5. Test yourself on past papers and notice careless mistakes 6. Be well rested and healthy 7. Enjoy the process
