Whenever I start doing maths while I'm fully energetic and motivated it goes well for a while up until I get a wrong answer. The motivation slowly fades away and my maths practice comes to an end.

Thank you for including careless mistakes- that has always been where I lose all my marks and there aren't any videos giving advice about how to fix it. It's extremely disappointing when I leave an exam feeling confident, then, I realise that I've lost marks on careless mistakes.
@manraj6493
@manraj6493 3 жыл бұрын
Yea thats definitely the worst feeling. Because if u didn't study at all and don't understand the concepts, you already know that you're going to be getting a bad grade, so you don't feel all that bad when you do receive that low grade. But those times where you really try hard to grasp the concepts and understand them, but still get an average mark (lower than your minimal expectation) due to careless mistakes, it just hurts man.

I don't even have zoom classes for maths in our current lockdown so i say to myself i want to improve i will put in the time and so i self study, i use alot of youtube resources and other web sources and its fun for me because even though i may spend 3 hours on just my math weaknesses or my strengths i enjoy it because its not homework and there is no guideline. There has another driving force than to be something other than just needing to get the work done otherwise motivation and enjoyment decreases. I would say for school personally having really horrible math teachers in the past and non existent learning sessions now its very hard to learn and it almost puts you behind because of how well you are able to understand so this is why i choose other sources of self study, a good youtuber is the chemistry tutor anything you can think of, chemistry, physics, math he has it all with detailed or well enough for me; workings out and explanations also very clear to understand and is very helpful. Especially if you are sruggling with an particular concept or understanding.

For me what really helped is just simply making a lot of excersises instead of reading the theory. Once you kind of understand how an excersise works, you’ll also understand the test better. Making excersises a couple hours before the test also helped out a lot for me, because then you put your mind in this focused ‘excersise-making’ position

One thing my maths teacher told our class was to go through examiner reports on past papers. This is a report on examiners making notes on questions that were well answered and questions that were poorly answered. They also include common wrong answers and common errors during calculations. Make sure you don’t make the same mistakes at the students did before you so you don’t drop marks!

Thanks for the video, Dineth. I love your non-rambling style. The advice is very practical with no psycho-babble bs about "believing in yourself" and crap like that. Yes, confidence is key but we get confident when we know the material. I am an unbeliever in exam stress/fever/sickness/panic or whatever. No one frets when they can answer the questions. The key to doing well in exams is knowing the material. I'll say this covers 80% of it. Avoiding mistakes takes the remaining 20%.

@@TheRealNiko We call it 'Maths' here in Australia (and other BrE countries), as in a shortened form of 'Mathematics'. Solving a question requires the application of multiple mathematical concepts, therefore, "Maths" is used. The original commenter also used the plural form of 'exam', so that cancels out. I think it's important to know that other regions use a different word-choice vocabulary, as trying to school someone purely based on their word-choice is quite ignorant to their own context (which I guess is slightly excusable based on your situation).

hi I’m super late for this but i really really used to love math, it was my pride and joy until i went to higher math classes and my confidence dropped. i really want to get better at math but i’m just so scared. that being said me being scared makes me not practice. i think i should really try to actually sit down and believe you know? i just hope someone cld encourage me to get over my fear :)

For me I was going great but my grade 7 teacher was the worst she always questioned my method forced me to do it her way not the way I learned saying hers faster then by grade 8 I started to feel insecure which is when you start with deeper maths thankfully I had an amazing teacher who helped me catch up I am still scared

I've never had issues with maths until now, I used to get like 95+ on every test and did olympiad without studying at all because I basically just paid a ton of attention in class. Having to deal with a super trash maths teachers sucks so I got a 74 on my most recent exam but I hope this can help me improve my grades. :) For some reason my new teacher wanted us to rush ahead to the point where we were consistently 3-4 WEEKS ahead of the rest of the classes. Thank whatever is up there for me not having to deal with him again this term.

Fantastic video mate. I'm currently in university studying civil engineering. In year 12 i studied methods and specialist and i have to say your comments and tips couldn't be anymore true. Tests/exams are a psychological test on top of the subject content. If you can be calm, think clearly, you'll be right. Instead of trying to complete 100 easy questions, do 10 harder ones and focus on your weak points.

the thing with me is that when ever I think something is going to be well it always doesn't go well like yea I ordered pizza tonight it will be great but instead it is really bad this started to happen with my grades whenever I hoped to get good grades I always got bad grades but when I thought of getting bad grades I got good grades but sometimes it turns around and I was at that time being body shamed and I got depressed I always liked math but after getting in high school I don't understand any math i understand every other subject but math has became a problem whenever i try to solve a problem (an exercise question) even if i try 10 times it goes wrong every time and it demotivates me but thankyou you motivated me and I will apply these tips and tell share the results again thankyou very much (Sorry if there are any mistakes i am not a native english speaker but i am working on my english:)

I honestly hope you can overtake that! Always remember that we're all in the same boat! Although some have a better and faster one, it doesn't at all mean that you won't achieve it! If you feel that you want to improve that skill, do not give up!! To be realistic, generally, people put pressure on us to do something well and as quickly as possible. However, you should remember to do it for yourself!!! 👍👍🚀🚀

tysm, writing in 2 days and Ik I should've started earlier, but felt very unmotivated, I'm going to really try to understand and invest these 2 days completely trying to understand, like I really didn't understand anything and asked questions, the teacher gave me extra work which I completed and he decided not to mark it or give me feedback, but we did revision recently and I feel like I understand things I haven't understood before, I'm excited to study for math

Am I understanding correctly? 1. Try to understand the concepts, ask questions until you understand. Don't just do the procedures. 2. Solve problems to prove/test your understanding 3. Practice your weak areas 4. Write out your mistakes and become aware of them 5. Test yourself on past papers and notice careless mistakes 6. Be well rested and healthy 7. Enjoy the process
