If you have Ozone, put 1 instance of Ozone and turn off anything that has to do with dynamics. Then insert Bassroom, after put a second instance of Ozone with only dynamics on

I’ve found Neumann NDH30 have made the biggest difference in my mixes. Getting rid of the room was a big step for me.

100% agree. I bought both the MM500 and the NDH30. I loved them both. But I felt the NDH was more analytical. The MM500 were more enjoyable (and super cool), but made everything sound “good.” My first project after getting the new cans was far and away better than any of my previous projects using Yamaha HS7 and a “semi-treated” room. Good cans are the way to go.

Hey Zen quick question. Have. You used the G-Sonique club PA soundsystem plugin? It emulates how your sound will sound in the club.

@@heinsterr yes. If anyone can help me it would be appreciated :-) I cut my drums at 120hz. Maybe I need to increase the frequencies I cut the lows?
@shriv3448
@shriv3448 3 ай бұрын
@@alechernandez5506No need to cut your drums at 120hz. Selecting the right drum samples(kick not clashing with bass at fundamental. Having a short tight kick and not long and drawn out that it clashes with the sub), setting your levels right between kick and bass. Side chaining effectively, by setting the curve based on the kick drum which can be done by volume shaping using something like utility in ableton. To be fair one would need to hear the situation to give accurate advice but knowing the fundamentals and nailing them is necessary. Also btw mud usually occurs between 200-500hz, its more of a low mid lack of clarity issue. Anything below that is usually rumble or boominess, can usually occurs because of low frequencies clashing between each other. Which usually can be solved with the solution i described in the beginning. There is more that can be done though. Also make no mistake, modern music production especially edm is for the most part heavily processed in the mixing phase. Alot of modern day producer prefer to mix loud. Eqing, compressing, limiting and saturating individual elements that are meant to be upfront and creating depth with reverb, eq, delay and levels for background elements.

Where in the mastering would you add this, before or after the limiter?
@ConnorTostevin1
@ConnorTostevin1 3 ай бұрын
"Mastering the Mix" recommends putting it before the limiter, second to last in the master chain. So do your normal EQ moves, Saturation Comp if needed ect, then add "Bassroom" before limiting.

Hi zen any idea whether the key of a track makes any difference when selecting reference tracks? It makes sense that the low end of a track written in D can never sound the same as a track written in A. Does Bassroom take this into account or no?
@ssmbl
@ssmbl 3 ай бұрын
key of a track makes a difference and no, bassroom has no idea what the key of your reference track is. image the distance between the fundamental frequency of a kick in C and A, if you feed in a reference in A major but your track is C minor bassroom will tell you too decrease the actual punch and increase the boxiness of your low end

@@ozziereaker for me its just like zen said. A little too much low and everything else sounds quite and muffled. Too little and the whole track sounds weak. Hitting the sweet spot with low frequencies is pretty tricky in a home studio generally. If you are aware you suck that means you will improve. Sucking and not realising it is the bad one

@@stelthtenau thanks broski I guess. Yeah I do suffer bass balance problem. It’s close to Impossible to get right acoustic in my studio. I do have few good sets of headphones tho. I’ve used to use hornet vhs plugin for sound correction. That was horrible experience for me I couldn’t get any instrument to sound close to right. Sound selection is a key, no plugins, kits, hardware or any other piece of .. thing. You may get away without knowing the music theory. It’s Like Zen and many pros say if it’s sound good, that’s good. But if your SS is like my music making skills, it will just won’t sound any good. GL on your journey!
