I recommend using notes as basis for your tuning so you remember exactly where your snare is at when your changing heads or when your lugs loosen. I use a pitch pipe app for reference since i dont have a tune bot.

Once you get into the 300s with the tunebot, it's really important to start using the filter or it will start to get overtaken by the lower octave overtones. Stair-stepping the filter is almost a must if you want to get up around 400hz... meaning getting a good reading in the 300s, turning on the filter, take your next reading, turn the filter off and then back on to set a new filter at the new frequency.. so on and so on. until you get to 400.

Great video. Your snare sounds fantastic. That's exactly where I like it too. 👍🥁🥁🥁

My guess is the bottom head is actually around the 321. When I tune mine it sits around 360-375. My top head is around 265-295….and your tones sound similar to mine.

Hz? Lug Pitch? I Like snare Side 330-360.400hz is way to high,it chokes the drum in most cases.Batter 220-250hz mostly

@@texxhexxmm 400 isn’t too high on the snare side at all. Many professionals use that setting. Gives a super sensitive snare response

Thanks! I think I keep a lower tension snare side head than you, the rest seems the same. And snare wire tension, I’ve definitely gone through more than one iteration of improvement there, bad settings can choke out the drum and even give weird overtones, I find. Good point to bring up.

Cool Video!!! That reading on the bottom head does seem low. I've got my 6.5 Black Beauty At 400 Hz reso and 293 Hz Batter. I'm using DrumTune Pro on my phone. Would have been nice to see you using the Black Beauty for this Vid. Maybe you can do another with that one!!

Agreed, probably a misread. I kind of want to redo this one for other reasons regardless, and if I do I'll probably use the BB.

210hz on bottom?? I say wrong Reading!;) But would be interessting with Tunings below 300hz.Did you choke the opposite head?
@ColeParamore2 жыл бұрын
Quite possible. Wrong readings aren't an infrequent occurrence with the TB in my experience. It was consistently popping up though and with the top head muted. Regardless, top head is barely engaged when hitting the bottom head on a snare. I'd go with the pitch reference on this one!

it is indeed 210hz. i usually go for around A3 at 220hz, 300+ seems super tight idk

Yeah, I think G# is right, but one octave higher! Unfortunately the tunebot shows until 400Hz, not higher.. So I think you reso head is around 420Hz ;)

Why not tune the bottom head while you have the snare wires off? Then you would not have to put a stick under them. Also, the Tune Bot instructions require muting the opposite side head while tapping at the lugs. But you did get a good sound.

Because then I wouldn't have the opportunity to demonstrate the trick. 😉

Your usual “go-to” snare is a Black Beauty, isn’t it?
@ColeParamore2 жыл бұрын
It is indeed. I'm definitely not using it all the time, but it's my overall favorite.
