Loved the video mate, I am currently setting up a 40 gallon mini pond in my backyard, completely from scratch, i got the idea from when me and my uncle about 5-6 years ago made our very own ocean in the back garden, we had mini puffers, sharks, and snails, but we had to build a temp control system around it.

Honestly, even though you have 100 glofish in the 55, you are probably one the the best glofish keepers out there! Most glofish, are put in 5-10 gallon tanks, and most don't even get a proper size school(min 6).

I read something about breeding them and I think you can but just not sell them and only breed the same colors because then you'll end up with white ones instead and the marble method for their eggs so they don't eat them and other stuff

The Toxic Fish this is false. Separate colours breed with each other and the fry are 1 solid colour from one of their parents. For example, if a purple and a blue breed, half the fry will be blue, and the other half will be purple. If two of the same colour breed, the fry will be the same colour as the parents. I know this from personal research, and experience breeding them myself. Also, you can sell them but not under the name “glofish.” You can’t patent life, so as long as you sell them under a separate name like “glowing fish” or “neon fish” you’re good to go.

@@SeaGallSavage Actually you can patent life (to some degree) in the USA. Just ask any farmer sued into bankruptcy by Monsanto. Selling under a different name is about copyright, not patent. When the patent expires, then you can produce and sell the patented item, but you still have to respect the copyright.

while it is not natural, and I personally don't agree with genetically modifying things for the most part (definitely exceptions), it does not hurt the fish, as they do not know that it was never in their genetic code. they were bred and born like this :)

The fish have a jellyfish gene that fluoresces. Thats the only thing that different about them. In the wild they would probably be eaten first as its not a survival enhancing change. They are very pretty!

Those Glofish look amazing and I'm glad you rescued them from an uncertain fate. I'm not sure I'd want GM fish in my own aquarium though (they are banned here in Europe), there are so many amazing species found naturally in addition to those that have been enhanced through selective breeding that it seems a bit of a gimmick to resort to genetic modification. Anyway loving your vids James! P.S. Don't get a haircut!!

I know the origin thanks but the point remains that the diversification of colours and continued development of the Glofish brand and product has little to do with the original R&D goals and so is more of a commercial gimmick. It's just personal preference, I'm not knocking people who like them, they are pretty cool fish but I prefer my fishy friends to be non-GM. :P

They standout under ordinary grow lux lights...heck, even when he netted the fish at petco- they stand out under cheap florescent store lighting. They are growing on me. When you mix them Bleeding Hearts and similar Tetras..they act normal. Just the best looking of the bunch.
