Hey friends in this video I'm going to discuss how I got a 4.0 GPA in college using cognitive loading techniques. If you've been searching for study strategies on youtube you've probably heard of active recall and spaced repetition. While there's no denying that active recall and spaced repetition are good ways to reinforced already-learned information, they do not address the fundamental principal of developing a deep understanding to begin with.
To engage with your course material in a way that promotes a deeper understanding, thus better grades, it is necessary to link new information to existing memory structures. In this video, I will show you exactly how I went about developing these memory structures by maximizing germane cognitive load.
Enjoy :)

Awesome! Priming before class (surveying/scanning/skimming) for general context without taking notes or attempting to learn anything (in detail or otherwise) has kept me from drowning in the details and falling behind.

Thia video has such a high cognitive load that I stopped playing guitar during it. It requires 100% focus.

Although I'm not going to school, these study strategies are amazing for any skill I want to master. Being autistic, I've struggled a lot to understand social norms and my own emotions. Using the methods you teach, those skills suddenly become approachable. I understand your content is focused on learning in school, but maybe you touch on using these strategies in other areas of life as a way to combat that lost feeling that people get after leaving school.

Can you make a video demonstrating how you implement the technique maybe with a real textbook?

Hi Darren! For students struggling in school would you recommend programs like icanstudy? Or is it possible for an average student to get better by simply giving time and effort?

I don't go to school so I'm wondering, is there a way to practice this in self-study? Let's say I replace a course with a textbook or a lecture with a chapter of the textbook.

Trying to convince yourself that listening to an online recording is not possible sounds like adding a lot of unnecessary intrinsic loading. I think I have a better approach. You could treat lectures as a workout sessions that needs to be done. Knowing what is ahead, you will expect to feel uncomfortable. Discipline and knowing to estimate the right amount of exertion will come with enough commitment.

Maybe a genius student, but this style of presenting is torture. And wtf is germaine (I would say salient) wittering on about red blood cells? This vid could be 50% shorter and focus on what cognitive load is, how to optimize it. What the vid is demonstrating is the real reason people get good grades, they are motivated to learn the thing, and don't have motivation to party. It's not rocket science. We can go into why, but it's not important.

In other words school doesn't teach you to think, but rather be a parrot and a good order follower
