Thank you Ace, it's been great to have the support of yourself and others so early on, especially as everyone says this is supposed to be the hardest time and I'm just having a laugh! Got some different videos coming out over the next few weeks, hopefully they'll add to the catalogue of videos already instead of being an ice berg haha

Obviously I’m a fair bit older than you but it’s crazy how similar most of our formative experiences are with getting into comics. I too was very much an outsider at school, bullied and ridiculed for being a geek. Luckily though I had a close-knit group of friends of similar interests and we had each other’s backs. I also visited the LCS’s around my area frequently and had to deal with those smug older comic book guy types who constantly looked down upon you. I made a conscious decision not to be one of those and every time some young kid comes into my LCS I always treat them with respect and speak to them like an adult. Anyway, keep up the good work!! Love the vids!!

Thanks for watch Chris! Sorry to hear school wasn't great for you either, but then again if your bullies are like mine, you're probably having the last laugh now that you're not in school any more :) That's the way it should be, and honestly, it's what I want this channel to be. Comics shouldn't be a gated community or else the fan base will just shrink over time. If you want, I can feature your LCS in Whale Watch? :) I like giving a spotlight to an LCS and showing some love :)

An awesome video and story, Marcus. 😆👍👍 I distinctly remember the very first comics that I ever read where in trade paperback form from my local library when I was about 15/16. Those being Sandman Preludes and Nocturnes, Preacher Gone to Texas, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man Power and Responsibilities and of course Watchmen. Admittedly, I too didn't quite fully grasp or understand what Watchmen was trying to convey through its story, but never the less the ending absolutely blew my mind when I first finished reading it. Needless to say that I fell in love with the comic book medium from that point onwards and I then proceeded to absolutely devour all of the subsequent volumes of both Preacher and Sandman.📕📖 Regarding the very first comics that I ever bought were Jeff Smith's Bone the One Volume Edition alongside the first 5 volumes of Warren Ellis's Transmetropolitan off of Amazon. I then picked up Geoff John's Green Lantern Rebirth from my local Waterstones book shop in Cardiff as well as the first volume of Preacher Gone to Texas from the HMV shop also in Cardiff. 😆 📕📖💰💴 I too miss the IFanboy of old as they were the inspiration behind my discovering the reading order for Geoff John's Green Lantern series and a whole lot more of amazing episodes that I'd love to go back and re watch. Cheers to you, my man! 🍻

The Young Justice show is what got me into comics. I started watching the show right after it was canceled, but at the time I didn't know that. I was devastated to find out that the show wouldn't continue so I began looking into anything DC. Watched the Green Lantern, Batman Beyond, and Justice League series. Even read most of the DC character pages on the DC fandom wiki. Finally started reading comics with Geoff Johns Teen Titans run because it was the most similar to YJ, and my library had the whole collection in tpbs. Now I own the whole 100 issue series in print.

I've never watched that show, but it's good to hear that it had such a positive impact for yourself and comics. Is YJ worth going back and watching? :) Thanks for checking out the video!

@@MaddoggComics Definitely worth jumping into now, they just released a third season years later, and a new one is on the way. YJ is faithful to the comics, but at the same time, they put their own spin in things. It also has excellent worldbuilding and puts a spotlight on characters rarely seen in DC today.

Fox kids was a brilliant channel. I love power rangers as well during my childhood in particular mighty morphin, lost galaxy lost in space. I was scared of rita and my favourite the psycho rangers. I owned the old figures and zords such as the lightspeed rescue ones. Such good memories. Also loved Spider-Man and batman the animated series, yugioh tmnt, sharman king. Also watched xena the warrior princess and Hercules on channel 5 on a friday and fort bouyard. I was only 4 or 5 at the time and was totally under the age recommendation but i loved them. Even today.

I've been talking about this loosely in some of my videos but haven't told my comics origin like this, maybe I'll try to do something similar of my own in the future 😇😅🙈, at least you got me thinking about it! //Danoh's Comics

Great vid! Us as followers appreciate your passion and would much rather you post a video of something you love and want to show your appreciation for even if it takes longer to put out! Keep it up!! Invincible by Robert Kirkman is what got me back into comics. Collected as a kid but took a break in the late 90s and 2000s then one day I was watching a video about "must read comics" and Invincible was the #1 pick. So I gave it a shot and now I'm a collector and never looked back

Thank you Mark! It's always been my mantra of quality over quantity. Every video I upload has the possibility of being someone's first on this channel, and if I mess it up, maybe someone's last, so keeping the content quality high has been my priority :) Tbf if there was one comic that could get you back, it would be Invincible haha! I was more of a Walking Dead guy at first and that's how I got into it, but that Conquest fight is just the best!

This video was so good, keep up all the awesome work, and let’s get ready to head for 500. For me I got into comics via cartoons, video games, and videos of someone playing the Arkham games and talking about Batman lore. Then I found comic book channels, and I finally started getting into comics, because I wanted to read these stories everyone talked about, and to learn all the details they talked about and don’t as well, and to also read what I want too. Got into comics via Ultimate Spider-Man and the New 52 Batman series in 6th grade. Love comics so much, definitely made me more passionate about reading and drawing. Love being able to talk about it with amazing people via Instagram and KZbin sometimes. I enjoy your videos for how more relatable you are to me than most comic book channels today, can’t wait to see more videos and see the channel grow more.

Thank you mate, I'll just focus on bringing my best to the videos and hopefully you'll continue to enjoy them :) I'm glad you like the channel, I kinda wanted to be the guy for dude's my age who's entry points were the Ultimate universe or the New 52, as I didn't feel there was much content for people in my situation :) I'm always gonna' try to expand my versatility with the content I bring out too, my next video is a TMNT theory, and I just hope it's enjoyable :)

Great video, man, it was really interesting to hear your story and start. I am a huge Power Rangers fan and would love to hear your thoughts on the current comics and what they are about to do with the BOOM! studios comics line with the change to end Power Rangers.

Hey man! I just saw your message on Instagram too and will reply after :) You're the first to hear this, but there is a 'Where To Start: Power Rangers' that was filmed a few days ago (before the announcement though, which is a bit annoying haha). But you're right, now is probably a good time to finish the main series and get a review out :) I thought about splitting the videos into arcs though, as I think the quality varies quite drastically depending on who writes :) Not sure if that sounds like the best idea, so I'm interested to hear what you think :)

Very similar comic origin, myself. “People talk down to you who have never read a comic” - this spoke to me. I like hearing about how Spider-Man has organic webbing and only ever loved MJ.

Haha, for sure man. Like I want new people to get into comics, more just so that the industry stays alive, but it kills me every time someone tells me that 'Storm didn't go out with Black Panther, she's not in the MCU!' I always hoped the movies would mean more getting into comics, but it rarely does :/ thanks for checking out the video, it's cool we can relate :)

Have you watched Jessica Jones TV show on netflix? I really loved the intro with the electric guitar. Just like the 90s Spider-man animated show. I really hope MCU starts having a more «gritty» Spider-man movies like that animated show.

Also, if you do get around to doing an Alan Moore retrospective and need any advice, hit me up. I’m a huge Moore fan and, at the risk of sounding pompous, I’ve gotta be in the top 20 or so Moore collectors in the UK. I’ve been collecting his signed works for 30+ years now and have a collection of his works that is pretty special. Bloody should be anyway considering the amount of cash I’ve spent down the years...

I might just have to take you up on that, Chris! He's just such a facinating character, and when doing videos I often learn new things so it's good for me. If you had any little known facts about him, I was trying to make a video based just on that haha

Maddogg Comics anytime mate!! Yeah he’s a fascinating bloke, as well as being an amazing writer. He’s often portrayed as a miserable git - and tbh he does play it up a bit - but I know a few people who have interviewed him and every single one says he’s one of the funniest, warmest blokes you’ll ever meet. But then if I’d been screwed over the way he has over the years I reckon I’d be a bit arsey too sometimes...
