That is actually a great story Trent, your modest no ego comments show the sort of guy you are and a safe flyer too despite your off road adventures, the fact that you want to check back on your training says a lot and we are all learning too, what a great idea getting your instructor down for the day in his Cessna 180 ,now he has dirtied his big tyres perhaps he will join up with you for more off airfield landings, you found your way in a simple aeroplane doing things you never dreamed of,keep up the beautifully done videos which are a credit also to your skills in that department, onward and upward always for Trent !

Great story Trent. I love flying and was well on my way to a private pilots license, but then I high-sided my motorcycle and was flung head first into a tree, Unfortunately for me this resulted in brain injury that finished my flying. I can't multitask anymore and everything happens too fast for me and I genuinely feel unsafe, so no more flying for me :( I love your channel and think that bush flying is awesome. keep up the good work. Alright Trent you guys pushed me over the edge so to speak. Talking to Jake at work whenever I was around him sure has made me want this even more after I had seen his videos which lead me to yours. Been wanting to fly since (1981) my second summer west of Fairbanks near Manley Hot Springs Alaska. Gold mining up there and so wanted to do this, but life women and kids came first. My turn. Just bought the online school so here I go.

Once I get my pilots license I’m going to make a video how I got into flying, and it’s just going to be a bunch of links to your videos. lol Thank you so much for the inspiration! I’m 33, own my own business, and have always dreamt of flying. For now it’s remote control planes. Being a pilot always seemed like such an unobtainable goal, so far-fetched and out there. Your videos bring the idea of a pilot into the real world for a lot of us. With with the light sport aircraft classification training hours and cost to become a pilot drop significantly, along with kit planes such as yours. As a trained mechanic and builder, the idea of building a plane is absolutely amazing! However, it always seems so boring to just fly between municipal airports and the like for that $100 hamburger. The way you allow us to all explore bush and back country flying makes becoming and being a pilot so much more exciting. What you do is what I would want to do as a pilot; get out there and explore! You bring what I used to think as a nebulous dream right into my living room, and remind me at least once a week what I’m working so hard for. 😎 Thanks Trent 👌🏼👍🏼🤙🏼 Chad Alpha Pilot for sure

Thanks man! Glad I could help you get motivated to get into it!! The one thing is I would recommend getting your full private certificate even if you only plan on flying a light sport plane, it just gives you a lot more options down the road. And even though 20hrs is the requirement for Sport, most still don’t take checkride until they are at the 40-60hr mark, so might as well just go full private!

I would like to become a private pilot because I want to conquer a fear of flying. I am just like Trent with all aspects of the fear of flying. Problem is that I live in Custer, SD and that is roughly and hour and 15 minutes away from the nearest regional airport in Box Elder, SD that offers a flight program and being a sawyer at a sawmill, I live on a budget so, the commute would eat into the budget for training. We do have a municipal airport here in Custer but they do not offer instruction. I do know a CFI but he is in his mid 70's and told me that he can't get his medical clearance anymore. So what can I do?

(My flying fund flew into collage fund for my kid.) I hope to one day follow you mountain top to to river valley one day, eventually I'll see you around, not to many Kitfoxes like yours here in Stead. My Uncle is/was a pilot (USN Retired Captain ), and when he was leaving to fly on orders, my aunt would tell him to Fly Pretty being that fly safe was cleche.and not always "safe". My wife says it to me when I go out on Orders too. It might sound dumb but..Fly Pretty and go home safe.

Hey Trent and hopefully the KZbin/Pilot Community. I am graduating with my BS in engineering in 2019 and I really want to get my license, the problem is I am going to be drowning in debt. Scholarships are pretty tough to get so what would you recommend I do to fund flight lessons and plane rental? Two of my roommates are pilots and I go up with them pretty often but should I still do an introductory flight? I also made a promise to my aunt that I would take her flying for her 100th birthday and I have a few years left so I'm trying to meet that deadline too.

help me out here. I am hard of hearing so flying back country and out of Air control areas would be my best fit. I was once told I could fly from Vancouver,, WA to North of Seattle with no radio so long as i stay out of controlled airspace. So...how does a guy like me pursue my dreams? I got 22 hrs in taylorcraft and 2 hrs in Cessna and 4 hrs in sailplane but the cost seems to be prohibited. Is there such a program for guys like me? I can hear without hearing aids but do wear the time to time but listening to Air traffic control is like trying to understand a Klingon. (not used to the radio culture). I live in Portland, OR and it seems ultralight would be my best bet?

I only missed 3 questions on my written, one was just a goof on my part I did pretty much the same, but not aol before I started training. Good idea for all who are really serious to buy the King or Sporty's courses and get started on them right away. Love the vids. I gotta say, I really don't like vlogs, but yours I watch. Why? It's not just because of the aviation, but you clearly put some serious thought into production quality. High quality footage and you intersperse your talking to the camera (which is natural but also succinct) with eye-catching shots of the things around you. All of this is MUCH more interesting to watch than someone just rambling for 20 minutes in their bedroom. Just as well, you keep it short and sweet--under nine minutes but we learn plenty about the topic of the video. Great work, really!

It’s funny how life will take you in directions you never expect. My first word as an infant was some gibberish form of airplane. When I would hear a plane fly over I would point to the sky and utter this incomprehensible word. I started saving for my pilots license at 8 years old with the money I made mowing yards. As fate would have it, flying was a dream that was always out of reach. But here you are, forced into flying and blessed all the more. Sometime when your up there, take a moment for me and just soak in the beauty of creation and the wonder of flight.

Trent, I am making a formal request that you remove all manner of listening devices from my surroundings and from my head! You are providing some of the most relevant information that I am researching and looking at applying to my circumstance. I just don't know how it is that you are so in tune with my renewed journey to think about getting airborne again! I come from a completely different back ground as I have lived my entire life passionate about flying but ultimately the journey leads us to the same place. And, it isn't about the destination anyway. It is always about the journey. OK, back to the research of getting back in to the air. About to start going out and sourcing a CFI I can connect with and see about moving on. Part 61 vs Part 141....61! I think it is much more aligned with my journey and goals but am always interested in hearing other's view on this.

Being new to your channel and watching some amazing places that you are flying to, has made me wished I would have followed my dream of being a pilot 30 years ago. Still dreaming! Thanks for sharing.

That was good info. I used sportys, too, but Cooper's instructor is pushing king, which is great, but I like sportys better. He'll get his written done this summer and should solo (in the Champ and the 150) on his 16th bd in September. Thanks, Trent; keep up the great work.

That’s awesome. I really want to get into them to but they are still very expensive. I’m looking into amphibians tho since I do a lot of fishing. Are you able to put floats on the bush planes?

Great background on your path to becoming a pilot. Becoming a pilot changes your life (which sounds obvious) but the change is profound, something that is more than a label, it makes you something different. My biggest challenge with students are those who do not come to lessons prepared, they expect to be spoon feed, and as such, they are and will never be any good. I have learned to let these students go. To be a pilot, a safe one, a competent one, you have to want it, work at it, and be willing and able to push through doubt, fears, and challenges. Keep up the great work.

Currently in the process of taking my license here in Quebec, Canada. Can't wait to enjoy flying as much as you do. Your vlogs are inspiring and shows the simplicity of the sport. Keep it up !

Trent as usual you go over the top in extremely well produced aviation videos. I am still in flight training trying to get landings down, I am pre-solo about 15 hrs. You have inspired me at 49!!
