Here's a breakdown of the main elements for my application to Georgia Tech. I describe my essays, my scores (which everyone seems to emphasize a little too much), and my activities/extracurriculars. Please note that I am by no means an admissions officer so I cannot say anything for certain, but I can tell you my application to give you a better idea of the applicants that they are looking for. However, I was not the only applicant to Georgia Tech. They are looking to recruit a class as a whole, so they want a variety of different, diverse applicants. Be true to yourself (you shouldn't be anyone else), and you will go places.
Good luck to anyone going through the application process. It's a stressful time, but know that no matter how things turn out, everything will be okay. There are so many great schools out there. Hope this video helps anyone applying to Tech: good luck, and I am rooting for you!
Enough said, let's cringe together at my college applications!

I really want to get in out of state but i messed up my gpa HARD in 9th grade. I'm pretty much doing all AP classes now to bring my gpa to at least a 4.0 weighted and I'm shooting for a perfect ACT score to make my application seem better. Thanks for the advice and hopefully I will get into Georgia Tech in 2021!

Thanks for making this video! Do you know if tech takes the IB program into consideration at all? Also, do you think I'd be able to make it in with just 7 APs?

Thanks for watching! Georgia tech does take IB into consideration, and you can check out what scores you need to get credit here: www.catalog.gatech.edu/academics/undergraduate/credit-tests-scores/international-baccalaureate-exams/. With 7 APs, that definitely makes you a competitive candidate, but keep in mind that they’ll consider you in the context of your school/opportunities. I can’t say anything for certain, but I would go for it! Good luck 🍀

I switched over winter break this year (freshman year). I switched because I took a BME 1000 introductory course and immediately knew that the field wasn't for me. I knew that I was interested in CS, but I really knew that I wanted to switch to CS after HackGT when I began to really enjoy CS.

Hi , I am Ayansh . I am from India going through my high school as of right now. I got 92% in class 9 , have represented my school basketball team for 3 years and have also won numerous medals in olympiads. I am wondering if i still have a chance to get into GT for the undergraduate studies (trust me my high school scores will be off limits) . Anticipating a haste reply from you ..

yeah based on your credentials, it sounds like you have a good shot! i'm not sure how the process is for international students - i've heard its tougher than if you're applying from within the u.s., but regardless, if you've done well in school and demonstrated excellence in olympiads, I think you'll have a decent shot. just make sure you spend a lot of time crafting a cohesive application (but keep in mind again, i'm no admissions officer!)

I just want to tell you seniors/juniors that sat and gpa don't matter as much as you think they do. Yes they are important, but just because you have a 4.0 and 1500 doesn't mean youll get in. Idk how but i got accepted from the waitlist and my stats aren't that impressive.
@sauravghosal5535
@sauravghosal5535 5 жыл бұрын
Yess preach!! I completely agree with you. Stats are an overhyped part of the application. I think that schools look more into extracurriculars, your growth and development, and how much you’ve challenged yourself throughout high school. Stats are kinda like a baseline and are in no way shape or form the reason why you get in

@sauravghosal5535
@sauravghosal5535 5 жыл бұрын
Personally, I didn’t find it helpful in college. GT didn’t accept credit for ap capstone, and I didn’t learn anything very important in either seminar or research. AP seminar was pretty much like an English class (except I didn’t get college credit for it), and AP Research wasn’t helpful since I’d already had experience with research before

I can’t stay for certain, but both ap capstone courses are ap classes, so I think they show the admissions officers that you’re challenging yourself! I would choose ap capstone over an honors class or a regular class - I think it may have strengthened my app a little. Also good luck with your application to Tech!! 🍀

What do you think my odds are of getting into GT? I'm in-state. My stats: (projected, I'm a junior right now) 3.83 unweighted, 4.35 weighted Currently a 1470 SAT but I'm gonna take it again and try to get at least a 1500. I'm planning on taking the Math 2 subject test and the biology M subject test. Track and field for 3 years(only JV, just did it for fun) President of Relay for Life (only senior year) President of Beta Club (only senior year) National Honor Society, English NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, Science NHS, Science Olympiad (All only 11th and 12 grade) Disease Detective Camp at CDC in Atlanta during summer before senior year Volunteered at hospital for summer during summer before senior year part-time job for just half of junior year I intend to apply for a major in biotechnology/bioengineering/biology/genetics I'm ranked 50ish in my class but there's over 500 students in my class so it's still top 10% As you can see i did most of my damage in my junior and senior years because i didn't really take school super seriously in my first two years. Think I have a good shot? Also, would it benefit me to apply regular decision instead of early decision because I'm taking all AP and it would boost my GPA a ton? Because without the first semester of classes taken into account my GPA is only a 4.25 weighted and 3.80ish unweighted. Sorry this is really long lol but let me know thank you!!

Thanks for taking the time to watch and thank you for commenting! You definitely have a good shot! You are well accomplished through your extracurriculars which show how involved you are outside of school. Georgia Tech definitely looks beyond just scores in their selection process, so don't stress out too much about perfecting everything. As long as you are challenging yourself through a rigorous curriculum and are doing well overall in academics, you should be okay. How is your courseload looking like? Are you challenging yourself and taking advantage of all of the classes that your school has to offer? They will place you in the context of your school and what opportunities you have, so if your school doesn't offer a ton of APs, colleges won't expect you to have taken a lot of AP classes. The selection process for in-state students is a little bit different and not as competitive as out of state students, I believe, and your stats and extracurriculars look solid. Go for it! Regarding Early Action vs Regular Decision, I have talked to a few of my in-state friends here, and they say that very few people from their school got into Tech RD. I'm not sure if that's just how their schools are, but I would recommend applying Early Action, even with a lower GPA since it can show your interest in GT. BUT, if you think that waiting to apply would really benefit your app since you are taking an extremely rigorous courseload, wait until RD to submit your app. Keep in mind that I am NOT an admissions officers, I am just a random Tech student on the Internet, so I don't really know exactly what colleges look into and cannot say anything for certain. But what I do know is that you miss 100% of the shots that you don't take, so apply!

@@sauravghosal5535 My school is set up so that you can only take a few APs in first two years and can take a lot as an upperclassman. I took one during sophomore year, am taking three currently as a junior, and am taking 5 senior year. Hoping that's enough. Thanks for taking the time to reply!
