This happened like 25 years ago, My dad trained us to defend ourselves from a young age. The most holy shit mug attempt story comes from my older sister (built like a twig, but will and strength of a line backer). My brother and I were walking with her in Manhattan, we walked down to the subway terminal on our way home from school (she came from high school picked us up from the elementary/middle school and walked us home, that was the routine) and as soon as we got down the stairs and one of a few people waiting. Two men came up to my sister, grabbed her, and us demanding we give money or she gives herself otherwise they'll hurt us. As soon as one had his back turned to her, facing us, the other got flipped onto the ground and kneed his head. When he faced her, too late she pulled every move Dad taught her on that asshole until a minute before the train showed up. She has 3 boys, none of which know how much of a badass their mom was when we were kids.

When I was 14 or 15 I was on the obligatory tour of concentration camps that all students in Europe did at the time. In krakow I had just been at one of the tourist traps selling junk weapons that was poorly put together. My purchase was nothing special, but to my young self the triangle bayonet tip mounted to a brass knife handle with skulls on the hilt and pommel was the coolest thing ever and my mind was hyperfixated on this when I was stopped in a back alley by someone who looked to be in the early twenties in a tracksuit jacket holding a pocket knife yelling at me in polish. I spoke no polish and he spoke no english, but in hindsight I assume he was trying to intimidate me. At the time, due to my hyperfixation on my new knife, which was the reason I snuck away from the group to buy so that I could hide it in my luggage and smuggle it back to my own country (not sure if it would have been illegal to transport into the country, but it was absolutely against my schools policy), I though this person was trying to sell me the knife he was waving at me with one hand and with the other he took out some cash. Afterwards it occurred to me that this was his way of showing what he wanted and the knife was his means of getting it, but at the time I still thought he was trying to sell me the knife for money. I tried in english and very rudimentary german to convey that I had already bought a knife and was not interested in a second knife, much less a smaller and less impressive pocket knife, but as this only seemed to agitate him more I thought I would show him why I did not need his knife. So I took off my backpack. At this point he was probably thinking that finally he was getting somewhere with this stupid tourist and that I was going to get out my wallet, but instead I took out my own knife. From memory I don't think I held it in a threatening way, as my intention was to demonstrate that I had bought a nicer knife and did not need a second one, but either way he said something that sounded like swearing (from the tone), put his wallet and knife in his pockets and walked away. Only when I got back to the hotel did it dawn on me that this person was probably trying to rob me, and that this misunderstanding was my very own crocodile dundee moment. TLDR: Kid me was attempted robbed at knifepoint in krakow, but due to a misunderstanding, pulled off a "that's not a knife, this is a knife"

I got mugged once when walking down a lonely street with a couple friends. One of them asked me if I had my phone with me, to check the time, as as I was saying “Yes, I have it but I'm taking it to-” a pair of guys materializes from thin air separing my friends and me (we were like 14 years old maybe), one of the guys puts a gun in my stomach, and demands the phone. I then said on sich a stupidly calmy way “Please wait a moment” as I slowly and patienly took it out my pocked and give it to him, then they just vanished. I met my friends again, they were shock, and I was holding my laugh as that particular phone had just broke completely the day before and I was taking it to the shop guy for him to tell me it was saveless. So the guy basically just stole a piece of plastic that maybe had only the battery working

I got mugged once. I was 18 at the time and coming back from buying a few pastéis (the equivalent in my country of a chebureki) for my grandma. I think the thieves saw me paying and followed me, so as I walked back to my grandma house, there was no one around on the streets, was a lazy Sunday, when suddenly two boys, probably two or three years younger than me, appear out of nowhere on a bike and one points a gun at me, immediately putting the gun on my back. Problem for them is, I saw the "gun". It was made.of plastic. It was a toy. He kept saying how he was going to shoot me if I didn't give my cellphone, I think it was a Nokia at the time, and so I say to him "ok, then shoot". Because I knew the gun was fake. He is taken back at it, because I'm bigger than both of them, if he let go of my shirt and I grab him, he knows I can beat him. He keeps insisting, and I keep insisting. His friend, on their "escape vehicle", is getting nervous, telling him to hurry up. We stay on this for like, five minutes, but I'm only thinking that the pastéis will get cold, so offer the change of the pastéis for them to just fuck off. The boy grabs it and they leave. It's funny, because I felt pretty much like Boris.

I think the only reason I’ve avoided getting mugged is that I generally look like I don’t own anything worth stealing, and that I’m so bad at socialising that I ruin any potential mugger’s “script” by saying stupid things he’s never expected to have to deal with, so he gets all confused and caught off guard. This strange ability of mine is also why I avoid trouble in rough neighbourhoods. I’m just too stupid and weird to bother with. @@JustfknBillSecond what Frei said - there are definitely times in life where we feel we've hit our lowest, but the only real way things can go from there is up. Depression has been a lifelong off and on thing for me; there are times I have to stop trying to hold things in and just let myself unapologetically breakdown until my head feels like it might split in two. Afterwards I let myself rest, wake up, make myself shower (its ok if you linger, just enjoy the feeling of water on your skin for a bit), drink some cold water, and cook myself something relatively healthy to eat (I try to go for fresh fruit or something vegetabley and crunchy. Helps my brain get out of the funk). Life will not always be happy, but by sticking around we have the potential to find those happy days and absolutely love them. In my down time I've found the gym helps; on the neurotransmitter side it gives endorphins which help keep the lowest lows away, but honestly I just like going because it gives me something to focus on and not be stagnant (I know if I let myself stay home all day, the lows stick around too). I'm glad you didn't follow through on the thoughts and that you're still around to talk with today. You deserve good days and things you enjoy doing. I try to think of things I enjoy when I'm low; they can be anything really. The scent of rain on dirt/pavement, forests, good food, cats, my favorite tea. Even if you stick around just to spite your brain being a jerk to you: finding reasons to stay, no matter how small, is worthwhile. (I also have a personal rule that it's not an option for me. It's one of very few rules I give myself, but I hold my commitment to my word in very high regard, so making that rule for myself means I can't break it. Might be an option for you too?)

This guy shoved a piece of A4 computer paper that had been folded in half in my face with the most broken English "Czech Monys Inspektor" written on it, with some random government seal on it (wasn't even a Czech seal) and insisted that he needs to look at the money from the ATM because it might be fake. If anything, you might even run into them in 20 years and learn they named their first kid after you. Don't be dumb at both" due to the sheer number of people using the worst possible ways to cheat from your neighbour's paper 😂 (Note : I do not endorse cheating)

Great story! i got robbed by ''slow'' man aswell in netherlands. i had 5000 euros in pocket because i was working and going to buy car in ghetto for boss. he wanted my wallet, i did not want to give, had a 10 min convo about phones aswell i simply said no when he asked to give, his knife i told him stab me, its your problem if you stab not mine, he got brainfart by that sentence, he asked my wallet, it had 7 euro's and 35 cents in it, so i gave him that and he walked off.

No worries Boris, I'll give you a better mugging experience, but bring mayonnaise instead of money. I almost got mugged just once, when I was maybe 13. A guy comes by bicycle asking me if I have a phone, I also had an indestructible Nokia, but I said no, they guy gets mad pointing at my pocket showing clearly the shape of a phone inside. He gets mad, yells at me for lying, and bicycles away. I got scared for a second, but utterly confused after.

Thanks for the story Boris! Luckily I've never been mugged but my attitude has always been that losing stuff is better than getting stabbed or something. Seems like you might not even lose that much in some cases😂

Reminds me of the time a guy tried to start a fight with me and my friends, threatening to stab us only to fumble as he realized we weren't just two but seven people (even though none of us knew how to defend ourselves). In his defence it was dark and we had split up in several smaller groups so we seemed like easy targets. So he proceeded to insult one of my friend's mom only for her to tell him she's already dead (she actually is). He left throwing childish insults at us like "you stink" and "you suck and your parents don't love you". Funny in hindsight but actually kinda scary when it happened.

Hold up, what do you mean she was actually already dead?

Where Boris lived sounds a lot like where I lived when I was little. Brooklyn, NY, in the late 80s was gnarly. I got mugged for the first time when I was 5, by two 7 year old girls, at school. Funnily enough, it was also with a dirty syringe- our playground was littered with them. All they wanted was my lunch. They cornered me and one of them pushed me up against a wall while the other one threatened to shove the syringe up my nose. Sadly, we already knew what HIV/AIDS was at our young ages (everybody had at least one "crackhead uncle/aunt" who had died from AIDS or an overdose). I was terrified and I peed myself, but at least I got to go home early. The school didn't do a darn thing about it. A couple of months later, a 9 year old boy brought a gun to school and threatened his teacher with it. There was no lockdown or evacuation or anything. My parents pulled me out of that school the day after that happened. I also saw a dead person for the first time at that same school. It was a man who had OD'd (the needle was still in his arm) and was slouched against one of the dumpsters- rats were already chewing on him. Kids, parents and staff were just walking past him, saying "mind your own business". It was in the morning before the first bell but he had been removed by the time recess came around. This all happened in the span of 6 months- I didn't even make it a full year at that school. My family moved out of Brooklyn altogether the following year because there were no public schools around that weren't the same or worse.

I was in Highschool. Like 11th grade. We were walking on the main street with friends. A mugger entered between me and my friends and asked: - Do you have 50 cents my man? - No, but do you? I guess he was more scared than me that day... Turns out here in the Balkans muggers can feel victims of the mugged... Ahhahah

If there's anything to take away from this video, it's that no matter what happens, no matter how strange or indeed harrowing, you can always walk away from it calmly and everything will eventually work out.

Ah brings back memories, one time in my teens I was walking home after a movie, when this guy pulls up to me asking where he can get weed, but he used some weird slang innuendo for it that I didn't recognize, plus I'd never touched the stuff. So I answered saying I had no idea what he was talking about, so he asked again using yet another term I'd never heard before, this goes on for a bit, and eventually he just says what he's looking for, at which point I'm thinking "Buddy you've asked me about a dozen times and I had no clue what you were asking, what makes you think I have any idea where to find drugs?"
@sammerlammer380811 ай бұрын
I've heard of muggers who let their victims keep their drivers license or ID, but never one who lets his mark go free with most of his money AND a fancy watch 😂 must have been on drugs

That reminds me of the time someone stopped me (maybe 7 or 8 years old at the time) on my bike and threatened to light my bike on fire if I didn't give it to him. He had a match and a matchbox in his hand. Needless to say, I drove away. That was so stupid, I didn't even tell my parents :D
