LoL 😆 you made my day brotha. Let me start by saying how great this video was. Not just for the info but on how accurate you were about bakers. The PowerPlant written kicked my butt twice before I finally passed it. The orals were the hardest for me. Passed all the practicals and orals to get my airframe but couldn't get my powerplant because I failed one oral section 🤦♂️ will be going back next week to finish it off. Yes, you are not kidding about the studying part and commitment you have to make. It had been yrs since I graduated a 147 school and touched anything to do with aircraft so for me it was hard. But, like you said, the key is not to quit! You just gained a subscriber and fan 👍 keep up the great videos

Thanks for the video. I separated from the U.S. Coast Guard as an Aviation Maintenance Technician on the H60T Jayhawk helicopters about 10 months ago with my Certificate of Eligibility to test for the A&P Certifications. I have just over 4 years of experience on all mechanical parts of the 60's. Just sent Baker's an email to make sure I'm enrolling in the proper class and to see if they can get me in sooner than 12 weeks. Looking forward to it! The nice thing about Coast Guard aviation is that we don't specialize in just rotors or engines. We do it all. Cheers!

I got a job under an IA and A&P,s at a flight school. Best thing I’ve ever done ! Even the guys that went to tech school were saying damn I wish I’d done that because I was making money And I got the hands-on experience right then and there I know there are still certain good aspects of trade schools but the guys that came out of them really did not have a lot of hands on experience. As a matter of fact I’m head of maintenance now 3 years out and every guy that comes in fresh out of school I have to re-teach or just teach. You just don’t get any experience in our school because you’re learning to many different aspects.

Some people do need the school experience. I teach at a part 147 and some people have to learn how to use a ratchet. It isn't they are dumb, they just do not have that experience. When I grew up (in the previous century), everyone had a garage or a basement to tinker in. Not everyone has that these days. Keep up the good work!

Good advice! I got a&p through a tech school though. I think it is a great idea to work for an IA and get your experience that way instead of school BUT it is also good to see what the options are with local schools. My local tech school had scholarships you could apply to that would cover all of your tuition and O&P test fees included. All you had to buy was your own tools and books. And even with that they had separate fundings that you could apply for and would receive help for buying books and tools. I came out of that school completely debt free. For me it was the same as you when it came to O&Ps.. i was incredibly stressed and nervous and it was really hard for me. I went into school not knowing absolutely anything about planes. I passed all my writtens first try. I passed my practicals for general and powerplant but failed my first oral with powerplant so i had to retake my orals.. but like you said.. i did not give up.. i studied really hard retook it and passed. all that was left was my airframe O&Ps.. i took a whole week vacation off work and studied from 8am to 12pm at night for 5 days straight.. i would only take 45 minute breaks every 3 hours.. studied by myself at home.. my brain was completely melted but i passed. Now im a year into my first A&P job working on corporate/ business jets. LOVING IT! and can honestly say its my biggest and most proudest accomplishment in my life so far. And doors are starting to open in several places.. cant imagine what it will be like when i have a good amount of years of experience under my belt. ITS WORTH IT

Failed my first written, went back eventually and over time did one small piece at a time and got the writtens done, then scheduled my A o&p and did not see how I could pass it on my own, being a guy who waited 5 years to test… studied what I could and put it in Gods hands, prayed much and stepped out of the boat scared and the examiner showed great patience and did everything but cross that line. Before my last lab was over he went to do the paperwork.. take my P in 2 days and I’m nervous but my last test turned into a testimony. Why not this one I’ve discovered he loves to snatch people out of the jaws of no way out, he uses those situations to reveal himself but your part is studying what you can, make flash cards of the orals in the book, watch yt practicals and step out in Faith, Christ is King. So basically from your video sir, i have a Question the A&P certificate is 3 years for a mechanic... my Question is: A student is poor and got no source of income? How much will the Tuition cost? If he has no income? Will financial Aid help him for example $38,000 for studying airframe and powerplant to become a mechanic?
@SciWorx3 жыл бұрын
Damn good question, thanks for asking. For me personally, the FAA provides an alternate route to get an A&P that doesn’t require tuition. You can get an apprenticeship under someone who already has an A&P. You need 18 months for the Powerplant portion and 18 months for the airframe. If you combine the two, you only need 30 months of on the job training to qualify to take your test. Your boss will need to sign off if they feel you are ready. Also, the big benefit of this is, you get a paycheck as you work to earn your months. Money isn’t going out, but coming in. This is what I did.
