I got my first internship back in 2012, when I was an undergrad in Electrical Engineering at UT Austin. Here's my story on how I landed the interview and, ultimately, the internship.

Wow they asked a coding question? For my first internship interview it was all behavioral and asking about my experience I did and some antenna questions. If they asked me to write a code to solve a question like that I would have just walked out the door

hey so for things like the Fibonacci sequence and stuff, are there any expected languages to know as well as a certain level of coding experience? I have previous experience with python and java and am learning C as part of my class spring of freshman year. Im still kind of confused on what exactly im expected to know for technical interviews such as the one you mentioned.

If it's a quick algorithm question as part of a behavioral/general interview, pseudocode is fine. If it's a technical or formal coding interview, you should be able to write out the code, and you can usually use whichever language you're most comfortable with. If you're ever confused about what exactly is expected, the recruiter should be able to provide clarity. I hope that answers your question!

Was it difficult moving from one company to another? I have an internship this summer, but I'm hoping for a different internship elsewhere next summer to get more experience.

Do you mean difficult to find another company? I don’t think it’s any more difficult than finding the first one. I’ve found it actually gets easier searching/applying/interviewing with more practice and experience. I had your mindset - I wanted to intern at different companies to try different things and gain new experiences. Good luck with your upcoming internship and with your search for the next one 🙂

How many of these companies offered you a full time position at the end of the internship? Thank you

Your videos are so helpful. Thank you. What do you think should be the minimum length of an internship?
@janpancake
@janpancake 3 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen shorter, but I’d say 11 weeks at a minimum, preferably 12. It does depend on the group and company. Some companies use the first week for orientation, and one week of an 11-week internship is significant! I think the ideal length for me is 13 weeks, because it’s usually worked out that I could intern and still have a few days before my next school semester started.

While being an undergrad, were you a member of the IEEE? If so, did it help in any way?
@janpancake

I was, but I was more active in HKN, if you’re familiar with that, and definitely, the people I met through being active in HKN helped shape my path on both a professional and a personal level. I think I’d recommend joining IEEE or any other professional organization in undergrad. There are a lot of pros!

The work I did during my PhD was all over the place. I first did a lot of work in video processing and video quality assessment, and then I focused mostly on computer vision/machine learning for my dissertation.
