Thank you for being so transparent with your experience! I’m going through the same thing you went through a few months ago: trying to build up my portfolio right now and build up the courage to start approaching shops. Your story gives me hope! Keep sharing your experience because it really does motivate people! Cheers and best wishes from California 👍

Thank you for making this video! I appreciate all of the things you explained and you really are a fast learner when you showed us the difference between the different parts you shaded on the snake. That's awesome. One thing I feel that no one talks about though is how to sustain a living while getting an apprenticeship. How could I go to the shop every day unpaid, while working another job to be able to feed myself and pay for rent? Or would they accommodate it? It just overwhelms me thinking about it and I get demotivated. :/

Great info and insight for us, thank you!! I’ve been practicing on myself and getting better, though I wish I could practice on others too. After your experience, would you say that’s a good or bad idea? I take hygiene very seriously and have all my own gear including cleaning supplies and proper disposal containers for sharps. Just unsure at this point how to proceed. I hate practice skins so badly for anything but line work- I cannot saturate that stuff well at all without overworking it and I’m not sure that’s the best way to develop my color packing skills.

In regards to practicing on yourself, I'd definitely say that's a good idea but the angles we have to position ourselves in for that are so awkward that sometimes we aren't really learning much from it compared to fake skin ;p so if you feel comfortable with the machine I'd try finding *very close* friends that understand your situation and convince them to get a tattoo for sure! 😈 About the color packing, I've only done 1 color tattoo but haven't tried color seriously so I don't really know how to help 🥲

Hello! I’m currently too young to be an apprentice and still in school to boot. But I want to work on drawing skills for portfolio work. How likely would having digital artwork in my portfolio affect my chances of getting an apprenticeship in the future in your opinion? Any thoughts would be appreciated thx! Edit: would practicing on fake skin be a good idea to practice early on?
@Miggon_2 жыл бұрын
In terms of how much it would affect you getting in or not will depend on the studio mostly, if the artists there are a bit older or simply used to the old' ways they will most likely want everything to be traditional. But from what I've seen, almost everyone in modern studios draws on the Ipad so it won't matter if it's digital since even if you have awful lines traditionally you can train your hand/arm relatively quickly, it's all a matter of personal taste as long as you can properly put the tattoo down on skin later, that's my 2 cents at least ^^ In terms of practicing on fake skin, I'd tell you to avoid being in a hurry for it, focus on making cool designs, getting better at drawing and building an audience on social media so that you have people to actually tattoo later on, and good luck! 😁

when you do tattoo’s on people, as a apprentice do you get paid or does that go to the shop?
@Miggon_2 жыл бұрын
It gets split, 70% for me 30% for the shop ;)
