that narrow road you were on reminds me of when i was doing firewood delivery for a while on my days off in the Georgetown to Placerville area...some folks would tell you "oh ya you can make it with a trailer".......then you end up on some rickety ass road that must have been meant for a covered wagon..... props to you for taking those jobs on hauling equipment. thanks for the info on the pros and cons of hauling your own equipment.

Always interesting to here peoples start and where they came from. Definitely worth it to haul your own stuff, at the very least you know how its being hauled and taken care of vs handing it off to someone else.

I wish you'd do a part two video to this, & go back & add anything you feel you missed or didn't explain enough in this video. It's always interesting to hear a business's owner journey.(Well I feel that way anyways) I work full time in Manufacturing, & I'm growing sick of the JOB. Just over broke, for someone else.. I make just enough to keep going back, but I'm tired of the stress and currently trying to figure out how I could segway into working for myself. I'd rather be building something solid for myself, as opposed to .. working for someone else then they run off to mexico or whatever.

We have an '09 'Fruitliner' tandem axle truck with a three axle tag axle trailer for moving our two excavators (Hitachi 160 and a Kobelco 210) and we've got the Allison automatic in the tandem and once you've driven one you want to go back to a stickshift.....though an 18spd is nice.

Hi Sam, your area is very scenic. I am new to towing a large camper. Are there rules of thumb about applying the trailer brakes? By the way, Ram advertises on your channel a lot. You do a lot for their brand. When I bought my 01 3500 Cummins I had buyers remorse. I never had a Dodge so I wanted to know what the problems were. Watching you repair the trucks and speak highly of them made me happy I switched from GM to Dodge. Ram should be giving you a discount on your next truck. You make 30 minute commercials for them every week. Keep it between the ditches, Steve

With your "Not for Hire" signs and adding "without prejudice" above the signature on your DL, ownership and insurance, you will not need a CDL as this is completely lawful. This allows you to operate as a state citizen with your own property and they can't enforce public policy against you. Public policy is legal code for legal persons, not mankind.

Nice video, thanks for sharing. I cut my teeth in an old R Model Mack with 2 sticks and less HP than pick ups have had for the last 18 years 😂 (but I loved that old truck). The Pete that had all the torque, I think you said 02 model, it wasn’t by chance yellow under the hood was it? A friend of mine at one time had a C16 powered W900 that was just absolutely ridiculous. We have moved a lot of iron with the good old 3406, but man that C16 was just a vulgar display of power all the time. Thanks a lot EPA 😠

I’m not sure why everyone is always so concerned about weight, CDL etc, I have been hauling my heavy equipment for decades. Have clean equipment, clean trucks , good tags. Strapped correctly. @@VBELTandSON I’m a general contractor, primarily residential construction. We haul skid loaders excavators, dump trailers, dirt building materials. I think here in Fl we are limited to 26000 pound before a CDL is required. But with a 24 ft trailer, equipment, F350, gas and attachments I’m sure we don’t pass the test. The trick here is to not have any advertisements on your vehicle. For some reason they consider that not for hire I guess, the only enforcement I ever see is buy the landfill, and they always go after obvious violators, like not having your load covered,bad tags, bald tires, lights etc. and only the state troopers have the authority to enforce DOT violations. But I do understand that in the event of a serious accident I could have issues. That’s why we make sure we look the part. We avoid tons of paperwork, insurance, and other bureaucratic this way. So far so good, excellent channel, we are going to buy a mulching head for our Kubota 040. Because we love your setup. Thx

Chris, its just like getting your C at 16.. just alot more info to test on. Go to licensing dept, written test for each category you need. All will have General knowledge. After that its what you need air brakes, combination (required for class A), doubles/triples, tankers, hazmat, passengers. Then you will need access to a rig for the test. You will pre-trip, back and drive. Some places I've heard of them allowing the use of a dump truck just to get air brakes while the rest is done in a hotshot setup. That is something you will have to check out in your area. If you don't use airbrakes or manual transmission there will be restrictions for them meaning you can't jump in a manual truck and take off if its there. As for cost that's really going to depend on what you can get access to. You could rent a truck and trailer for the test, or if a friend owns or works for someone willing to train.. thats the cheapest way. Or you could spend more like $5k (probably higher now) and go to a class where you get everything from instruction and practice they provide the equipment. Most reputable schools will have a garuntee pass, meaning you listen and actually try they will work with you until you pass (if you don't listen they can't honor the garuntee). But all in all I've seen it both ways I went to school and have trained others for an employer. What I noticed is I learned more on the regulatory side, where most employer training is get in learn to drive and get on your own fast as possible no time spent covering the details just what you have to know. I would always let the other person choose. I can pass on what I know or they can get the basics and figure it out alone.. (most just want to figure it out later.... my phone rang nonstop from that.)

@@williambuehler2533 thank you so much for that detailed response . I need it for hauling my track loader and tractor around I do weed abatement And land clearing also dirt work etc ... a recently bought 10000# track loader I use a 1350# mower and I always carry a 650# bucket as well and I. Bought a trailer with a 19990 # rating was a deal I couldn’t pass on both the machine and trailer , so I’m over legal for sure I pull with a ram 3500 Electric brakes with no probs . So it’s time for the CDL now that I have time until weed abatement starts again in a couple months
@williambuehler2533
@williambuehler2533 3 жыл бұрын
@@chrisspence3216 so your minimum requirements would be general knowledge and combination vehicles. However I'd add at least haz mat and tankers.. maybe even doubles these will give you the ability to haul a lube trailer or a tank with water for dust control.. ive never wanted to haul people so no need but there have been times if I had the endorsement I may have jumped on it. Edit: also make sure your equipment passes inspection and have a friend drive it to the dmv for you. That will be the CMV for your test bringing cost down to a few hundred for license and another 100ish for your dot physical. My guess is around $500 or less.. small towns typically are easier to get appt and easier going with less traffic adding stress during testing. (My .00002) good luck and as Sam said don't be THAT guy.. the cost and time difference is definitely in your favor to do it right.. we aren't back in the days where you just got told "don't do that again" now it seems like a personal vendetta with some..
