as a student who went through the selection test last year😭, for me the math was quite simple you just have to have a strong foundation in math as pei said and the science was rlly hard. the topics were not in the p6 syllabus but more in the secondary sch syllabus so prob they are trying to assess your knowledge and understanding beyond the primary sch syllabus. prob try to briefly look through sec 1 and sec 2 topics so that you won’t rlly get nervous during the test. afterwards I was shortlisted for the camp. for the selection camp there was 5 components (engineering, bio, phys, chem and english compo (aimed for foreign students but everyone has to write it) idk if im allowed to reveal much abt it but last year there was some teamwork involved and a teacher would assess how well you work with others. they also showed a video abt a certain topic and i had to answer some questions abt it so some knowledge abt the three sciences would rlly help. lastly I had do conduct some experiments based off of instructions or the topic given in the video. also, I had to give a physical portfolio of all my achievements. after this you’ll either get a confirm offer, rejected or be asked to do an interview for the sch to further assess you. after the interview, you’ll either get confirm offer, waitlist or rejection. don’t worry if you get rejected like I was, you can try for ‘sie’. after psle IF there are remaining places in the sch you can apply via a link in the schools website and you can add your achievements and your p4-p6 results.luckily I was shortlisted for an interview. in the interview they asked questions like why you wanted to join this school instead of any other top schs and why are you interested in math and science. Anyway, As someone who failed every single DSA I applied for, this is interesting since I was never actually able to get pass the first stage (help) I'm quite amazed by everyone in NUSH due to it's accelerated curriculum. People in NUSH can learn so so fast and I respect everyone who's in NUSH. I hope you have enjoyed your time in your school and I hope it was interesting (especially the blueq collab :))) ) (I did not study very hard [help]) and I like the fact that you are attempting to positively impact the Singaporean audience and giving tips on how to select a good school. FINALLY, I want to end off by saying: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE THAT GOOD IN CHINESE TO BE IN HCI/NYGH. I'm not good at chinese. I also LOVE the part where you talk about values. Joining a school WILL mean you get subjected to the values the school believes in. I can go on about this, but I shall go now. Goodbye. postscript: travel time was one concern for me. So here’s how my dsa went last year (I’m in y1 this year :D) I was part of an outreach program but I didn’t know much about nush and my parents were also not sure about what nush is like since it is a relatively new school. I dsa’d for nygh, mgs (ip track) and nush (I was ghosted by nygh and mgs). For the first round of selection (for nush), I struggled with math but was ok with science. Although I didn’t understand most of the questions and did not have any general knowledge, I think I did quite well for science. The qns for the science paper were kinda like reading comprehension. You don’t need any prior knowledge because it doesn’t make sense to choose students based on just that. I think the science test is to see your critical thinking skills. For the dsa camp, I messed up one of the experiments and wasted some materials. I think that the camp was kinda difficult but as long as you pay attention to the information given and try to answer your to the best of your abilities, you’ll be fine. After that, I thought I wouldn’t get in but I got an interview. During the interview, I was scared because I only had one honorary mention and one bronze from math and science olympiads. During the interview, I was asked about my science results (I got below 80 for sem 1 that year) and my opinion on olympiads. The questions I practiced for such as “why did you choose nush” surprisingly weren’t asked. I thought my interview went rlly badly cuz I ended up crying during it. I thought I would confirm get rejected but somehow, I got a confirmed offer. Looking at my PSLE AL score, I could have gone to pretty much any school but I chose nush because my prelim score was not very good and I thought being guaranteed a spot at nush would give me peace of mind. In my mum’s experience talking to parents whose children are in nush, they were all really positive except when talking about canteen food (personally I don’t think it is that bad). Currently, I really like the school culture and in terms of studies, I’m coping decently well. Although everyone is very smart, as long as you put in effort, I think you’ll do fine. Maybe I'm just worse at math hehe for science, I also didn't know most of the concepts but there's quite a lengthy paragraph for each question giving context and the science paper was also multiple choice so maybe that's why it felt easier for me :)

I am surprised so many people watched this video. To be honest, it's quite simple for me. Just have a strong foundation in math, have a huge portfolio in science--and this typically includes dashings of International Olympiads. International Olympiads give instant admission without interview. Problem solved.

Honestly I don't really think NUS High's DSA system is that effective or accurate in their assessment of students. I got into NUS High but I know multiple students who also applied but failed the selection despite being WAY better than me in basically every subject including math and science. Not to mention the fact that they were also more accomplished in terms of competition results etc. Of course I'm happy that I got into NUS High but I still feel it was pretty weird

mm i think math, the 3 sciences and humanities are accelerated. english might (?) be accelerated or same standard as other schools and chinese is the same as other schools 👍 u should definitely make sure ur math snd science are very very strong tho! those who got accepted through y3 admissions are literally goats hahahaha
