I’m so glad I found this video, just gave me more confirmation! I have been natural for almost 7 years and for the last 5 been stuck at shoulder length 😡 I’ve been so frustrated. This is such a great idea, I will probably twist, twist my twist together, African thread, and then do a style like faux locks or braids. Please give us an update on this regimen

African Threading always works wonders for me. To retain moisture, I use the Baggy Method on my low porosity hair one a week, after my LCO method. This reduces the frequency for remoisturizing my hair. As for the ends, I cut mine twice a year so the thickness of each bundle of hair I thread is fairly uniform from root to tip. Since doing this, the goal has been to grow even strands in thickness before I aim for length alone. Only con is my hair is prone to clumping as a result so detangling is longer on the take down.

It sounds like you do a blunt cut on your hair. Do you cut your hair yourself? If so, how do you do it?

The fact that I’ve been thinking about everything in this video says I’m on the right tract!

I am happy that I stumbled upon this video. This is my second week now stretching my natural hair doing the African threading method. I discovered that it's a great way of stretching natural hair without having to blow dry it. Well done on taking care of your hair, I think I am in the same situation as you, where my hair likes to be pampered and left alone for a week. 🙏

For me, I do starter locs or hair twists at the beginning of the year and cover each one with African threading and you will find at the end of refreshing them quarterly - after conditioning and oiling, washing that the hair has been left in a stretched state and alone and grown. Also I use wool/think yarn because the sewing thread breaks the hair unless you double it.

So you keep the threads on for the full quarter? Do you wash in the threads as well? Do you thread with gaps? I'm intrigued.

This video is such a big help. Unfortunately i still get single strand knots when i do twists..😖 so i am trying this method. Twists then braid them up, tuck ends through and then cover with threads. Oh my.. i hope 🤞🏾 this will help me minimize ssk‘s!
@FromAto4z

Keep me posted! Also, you might want to try to keep your ends heavily moisturized as you're twisting and then for the duration before you take them down. I find that when my hair is more moisturized and lubricated (oils) the less single strand knots I encounter. Keeping your ends tucked away or threaded will "freeze" your hair and hair strands and the lack of movement should also help.

Did you moisturize through out the week while it was in the thread?
@FromAto4z
@FromAto4z 3 жыл бұрын
I did. Because I did not use rubber thread, the moisturizers and oils soak into the thread which is also helpful.

I would really like to do the African threading method on my hair...but finishing the ends of the thread is what’s making me anxious 😢
@FromAto4z
@FromAto4z 3 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. It's hard for me to film it, but I don't finish the threads with proper knots -- as in the kind with the ball at the end. I just loop the thread through twice and leave it at that -- the way you do when you start the knot. I also don't pull them very tight, just in case which also helps to make them easier to remove. I've never needed scissors to take them out and I can then reuse the thread.

@@FromAto4z ohhhh, I understand now. It’s kinda like using a needle and a thread, instead of normal stitching, this stitching (aka finishing method for the African threading) is similar to how nurses stitch bodies( I’m sorry for this semi gory example😅) you know how they go over the skin and then through it in order to pass the thread ... I hope you get what I’m trying to say 😅😅
@FromAto4z
@FromAto4z 3 жыл бұрын
Ha! Yes! 😅 Around -- through -- around -- through in the same spot then trim the end if necessary. No official knot (with a ball).

Don’t you get bored and feel like giving up with all these regiments ? I’ve been natural a year and am already bored
@FromAto4z
@FromAto4z 3 жыл бұрын
I do get bored which is one of the reasons why I had my setback. For me, I try to keep things "fresh" by trying different DIYs on my hair on wash day. In this way, I am not fiddling with my hair, but I have something to look forward to. Try to find something that will motivate you to keep going without causing damage to your hair. You got this, girl!💜💜💜

@Sweet Heart but then when you wash the hair you have to take all the thread out and redo which takes long, how often do you wash your hair ?
