How I Grew My Natural Back After My Second Big Chop!
Hey y'all! Thank you for joining me today. This video is all about what I did to grow my hair to bra strap length after my second big chop. I had to big chop last year because I totally messed my natural hair up and needed to start over in order to get my hair back to what I deemed as a healthy state.
I hope you find these tips helpful and I hope you also follow me on my journey to get back to waist length natural hair. Please remember that natural hair isn't one size fits all, so take the tips that work best for you and apply them to your natural hair routine.
Natural hair growth does not have to be some deep mystery of the ancients. It is doable and attainable as long as we are consistent and mindful of how we are treating our hair.

What length retention tip did you find most beneficial?

Not shampooing as much! I JUST started realizing that was stunting my growth and causing dry scalp to the MAX!

Yes over washing can lead to dry scalp due to natural oils being stripped over time. This was a big part of my breakage. I was also not using the right kind of shampoo for my hair which made it worse

People don't believe me when I tell them simple is better for your hair. Like, who has time to sit there and do a 33 step wash day??? Not I, said the cat LOL!!! I learned my lesson once I broke my was it length hair off. I am on a journey to grow it back to where it was.

@@CammyjOfficial Honestly, medical school has been the best thing for my hair. I don't have time to do a whole bunch of hairstyles so I really have my hair in twists/braids and twists/braids outs most times. I use a shampoo and a leave in conditioner (shae moisture shae butter or caster oil line) with olive oil. That's really it. I have a root oil (pimento) and grease that I mix together. Not even a conditioner (but I may get one to remove the burden from the leave in conditioner lol).

The length retention tip that I find most beneficial for me is protective styles and deep conditioning my hair. I never really use to do deep conditions because I didn't truly understand the reasons for it, but girl now I do lol.

Due to damage, neglecting under wigs. Now around bsl or mid back now due to another set back April 2021. I wear single plaits under wigs and moisturize every day or every other day. I think this was a sign for me to go back to wide tooth combs. I liked using detangler brushes and the amount of hair that comes out is lowkey a lot but I thought it was because I only washed my hair 2x a month lol.

Hi 👋🏾!!! I’m just more of a fan of the wide tooth comb cause I noticed I had wayyyy less breakage when using it. The brushes for me pull my hair and put too much stress on my strands as a primary detangler. I do use brushes but only after I’ve thoroughly detangle with the comb first. I like using brushes to smooth out my hair when setting styles. I wash my hair twice a month as well. Once every 2 weeks. Thank you for watching and commenting!!!

I think a lot of people skip over genetics as a part of hair growth. Long hair definitely doesn’t mean the hair is healthy.

I knew someone who thought genetics were the reason her hair wouldn’t grow. It was actually because her hair was breaking off faster than she was growing it because she had a very poor routine and often neglected her hair. I think focusing on getting a routine that’s best for you is the key to length retention as a whole. Since hair goes through different phases the rate of growth is different every couple of years, but we can try to make sure that no matter what growth phase our hair is in that we aren’t breaking it off or tearing it out. I agree that Long hair doesn’t mean healthy hair which is why I went ahead and cut that 10 inches off because at the end of the day I appreciate healthy hair. Thank you for watching and commenting.

I know that I don’t know what I’m doing when it comes to cutting on myself and I knew that If I messed up that I would end up going back to relaxers. You are right about rushing too. I'm currently on a journey to grow my hair and I'm a bit more serious this time around. I've gotten a spray bottle, jamaican black castor oil, a leave in conditioner and a good shampoo and a conditioner, and I made a promise to myself to not apply heat to my hair for a whole year. It's three weeks so far but I can feel it growing although it has always been soft. My hair is short (collarbone length) but I hope it grows past my sternum by the end of the year.

And this is not opinion this is FACT. I've ALWAYS THROUGH MY CHILDHOOD HAD HAIR PROBLEMS! Hell and back again- my mom never understood and didn't teach me to at least how to care for it, let alone research. I'm not a high maintenance person and not an obessed barbie- wannabe girl or care. There are a million things I love doing and learning. What changed my view point in caring, finally, about my hair was having cancer...TWICE. I really enjoyed shaving the rest of my hair that failed to fall out. Trully loved the reference of a Phoenix because this beautiful bird is a out rebirth and this I found the fire of life. Research in what grows hair and what moisturizes as well as what it ..doesn't NEED is so fundamental and simple. Genetics is the limited and that's the wonders of the natural world. Girls I realized from Black to White, Asian do a million things with their hair and it's not just us as women of color, but putting that stress on your folicles and roots its war fare to your hair. Wear and tear even more in chemical treatments, etc. SO ALL IN THIS VIDEO IS 100 PERCENT CORRECT. I got my reference simply from dermatologist as to what grows hair and all the BS hacks out there these " super fast ingredients " that magically grow it are false. Simple fact, HAIR GROWS FROM THE INSIDES BY WHAT NUTRIENTS YOU PUT INTO YOUR BODY NOT OUT. Moisturizers help maintain the integrity and elasticity of your hair. Simple science. I've been pretty much leaving my hair alone, I've gone natural from after my chemo- LOVE IT! IVE BEEN deep conditioning it only ONCE a month and just using TAP WATER , EATING HEALTHY foods, tape only one type of vitamin- then a but load of all kinds and by far my hair is growing like a forest. It kills me because all I recall as a kid and teen as well as in my 20s were hair fall outs and fails. Research comes a long way and it remarkable plus being a critical thinker too. It's sad to me that there are so many people out there selling miracle products that are scammers just to make money along with fake customer reviews. Theres a lot of that going on. So it's what think on a fundamental basis and become a scientist/ researcher. ( I've always loved science but more so zoology- animal science*.* I'm an otaku) I'm very greatful for videos like this who want to put out healthy practical information!! And importantly whom are NOT SELLING. In curiosity and wanting to try a moisturizing product, I'm certainly making sure that qua is housed with its ingredient description!! Excellent guideline! Hi 👋🏾! It was the picture from my second big chop vs when I got it professionally trimmed after a year of growing it out. Even if I had blown out my hair when it was short and curly it was still very short in comparison. I used the photos I had on hand I felt were best at the time. When I big chopped my hair the second time and took pics I didn’t think “oh let me blow my hair out for a before pic for a video a year from now I didn’t even know i was going to do”. I was devastated and took the pics and moved on to wearing my hair in twists to help my hair recover as much as possible. I just used the available photos I had during the time i chopped. You can see the current length of my hair curly and wet in any of my recent wash day videos of styling videos because I typically style my hair wet 99% of the time. Hi 👋🏾! For example like now, since my hair was blown out and trimmed, I wear my hair in two braids and just wear it as a braid out if I’m going out (it’s in a braid out in this video here ). I moisturize about once a week when I wear my hair in this blown out braid out. When I wear my hair in twists I moisturize once every two weeks (on wash day when I set my style).
