Can we just be honest and admit that sometimes there are evil intentions even in people we know and trust? The fact that she was rough and took off about 6 inches+ of length reeks to me of jealousy. She knows you personally and cannot pretend she didn't know your journey, channel, etc etc, etc. I don't trust this woman and I hope you never let her touch your hair again.. I'm angry for you sis. 😡

Happened to me several times over the years with different stylists. I haven't been to a salon in like 4 years and my hair is bra strap length for the 1st time as an adult. I stopped using relaxers in 2012. Since I didn't go to the salon several times a year. They always took off several inches after each relaxer. I KNEW my hair didn't grow that fast, so it was getting shorter and shorter every time I went to the salon. I trim my own hair now.

At the age of 20 I had hip length hair and scissors never touch my hair, but once I decided to go to a salon my hair got shorter with every visit. I had shoulder length hair for over 35 years. Once I took control and went natural no rinses, no relaxer and learn to embrace my grey hair my hair start flourishing. Now I am waist length my cousin told me that I needed trim. I told her I will decide when I will trim my hair and I will do it myself. Thanks for sharing!

I’m a hairdresser I’ve been doing hair for 20 years. I like long hair. I keep my hair long my babies hair long and I find myself leaning towards encouraging longer hair on my clients. I never hack off someone’s hair and a trim is 1cm. BUT let me tell you all if you want long hair DO NOT ask for ‘just what needs to come off’ what ‘needs’ to go is just so subjective. No way I think you ‘needed’ that much off I’d be so so upset!! But honestly maybe that hairdresser actually thought that’s what you needed. If someone doesn’t give me very firm instructions on how they want their hair cut I assume they are open to me taking creative liberties so I always make sure to really ask many more questions but so many hairdressers won’t ask!!

Interesting…I think if a client doesn’t give you firm instruction, it’s best to err on the side of caution- not take creative liberties. But I agree that what is “needed” is very subjective.

Oh I agree with what you’re saying and that’s how I work but I can see how other hairdressers perceive that relaxed lack of direction. In my 20 years working in the salon I’ve seen the vast majority of people say to do ‘what you think’. It is only my personal experience with my own long hair that I never take that literally with long hair clients (or blondes) but trust me when I tell you that clients coming with a firm idea on what they want or specific instructions is the minority. I’ve been a hairdressers long before instagram or bringing a picture off the internet so a thorough consultation avoids tricky situations but often someone comes now days with a post ‘something like this’ and after a 10 min chat all they really like is the bangs or they kinda like the blowdry. Consultation is key because we all communicate, perceive and articulate differently.

You know how I got to thigh length? I stopped going to hairdressers. The yanking, the ripping, the soreness, the blood, the scabs, the hair loss, etc. I don't think anyone wants that. I trust my own hands because some people don't have good intentions. Last time I went, I had blood throughout my scalp from a dull razer pulling out enough hair to cause multiple bald spots. I refused to let him use thinning shears on my strands and that set him off. That was just one incident of many. That was back in 2016. I've been doing my own hair ever since.

Yep. Since 2001 for me. And even then was for retwisting my dreadlocks. Since the '90s for getting a straight style and cut. I had a terrible experience, which is what made me decide to twist my hair into locks in the first place. Three years later I finally let a Jamaican dude turn my 'wannabe locks' into actual dreadlocks. (I was really sporting permanent twists that just wouldn't lock until he really locked it with beeswax.) After 20+ years I decided to get rid of the locks and go back to wearing loose styles, but this video just reminds me to never go back to the salon care life no matter how I'm styling my hair.

I know exactly how that feels, at 2021 In December I asked to my sister a trim of my hair I trust her very much. But I did wrong believing in her I had my hair until bra and she cut until my neck I told her that wasn't what I asked she just was smiling. So honestly I have to say now for me is difficult believe in people for cut my hair, if my sister do that to me what can I expect for a unknown person.. Listen I almost started crying when I saw this title. I literally just went through the same thing about 3 weeks ago going from waist length hair now to bra strap length hair when all I asked for was a “light trim”. It was devastating to say the least. The woman claims she only took off an inch and a half…bulls*** my husband was pissed when I got home from the salon and the next day all my coworkers kept saying why would you cut off all your hair like that 🤦🏽‍♀️ just making matters worse. Ppl don’t understand that our hair becomes a part of who we are and I love my hair I worked so hard for 7 years growing my hair out that long and I felt like I was scalped well I might as well have been because that’s how it felt

It will grow back, fortunately !! Same shit happens to me. An hairdresser suggesting a trim. I asked her to show me. She showed me the split ends in the front, 3 inches. She cut 3 years of growth. I never cut my hair in a salon again. But I swear to myself, I would go to a professional if I need to. I would just make sure to see what she/he's doing with a mirror. And walk off the sec they do something I didn't ask or like.

Hey 👋 girl hey, I hear ya on the salon experience. I see a new Stylist for about 2years now. He's all about that healthy hair growth and length retention. I love how he doesn't go crazy with his shears. The last time I went in for a trim, I pretty much said the same thing you said take what needs to go and my heart hit the floor because I was anticipating on Losing like half my length. But he said you don't have much to cut, and took maybe an inch. He said I don't take more than what's necessary. He said what ever you're doing at home keep doing it. Plus this was the very first time I had seen him. After that I was like I'm keeping him. Even tho, he's heavy handed and I'm crazy tender headed. I thought he had all my hair on the floor that first appt. But thx to Ayurverdic practices (learned from your channel) my hair is crazy strong. That day confirmed the benefits of henna and amla for me. That stuff works!! But I owe my experience to you Curly P. Following you and your regimen saved my hair. I started following you in 2018 but I didn't try any of you methods and practices until December 2019. I waited because I had alot of research (and procrastinating) to do. I've been back natural for at least 10yrs. But my healthy natural journey didn't start until December 2019. Meaning no heat (no flatirons). I rarely use a blow dryer until I gifted myself the RevAir. Thank you so much, and I'm ready for to go on this journey with you. I used to not really be into big hair, my hair has always been thick. But now I want thicker and longer hair bcuz of you. I want Mufasa hair from the lion king 🦁 lol 😂. My hair at the moment is straight. I use my RevAir. I bought me one on my pre birthday gift this past November. That thing is addictive even if it's just to stretch my hair for my twists I'll being going back curly soon, cuz here in Seattle its just a wet climate and I can't wear str8 hair often.

This happened to me back in December. I went in for a trim and silk press. I knew my ends were bad, probably about 2 inches at most needed to come off. Well, I ended up with a major cut, about 5 inches total. Even as the Stylist was flat ironing, she was cutting. She had already cut some off before she started flat ironing. I was so upset! She told me that she couldn't do a proper silk press on my hair. If that was the case, I would have opted for something else. I'm very weary of going to hair salons now.

To think I initially wanted the man to cut more because I THOUGHT I wanted a change 😂… no mam! I’ve been going to the same salon director for 3 years, I’m so happy he didn’t listen to me and knew what he was doing. My hair now sits around the same length as yours. So I thread my hair with oiled nylon panty hose strips. I low manipulation style with braids and twists and keep them off my shoulders in a protective style with hair forks and sticks these days. If I use ties, they are the wide, seamless rolled elastics, ribbon ties, or big satin scrunchies. Never tight while for now. My hair is exactly your length, Farida! Let's get to hip this year!! 💜💜💜

I once went to a hairdresser after having taken my braids out. Something she used in my hair reacted with ?the build-up in my hair (my theory) and my bra strap length, 3C hair turned into rock hard dreadlocks 😱!!! She spent the whole day trying to pick them apart. My boyfriend spent the night finishing what she couldn’t. I lost tremendous length. 😩But, wait, there’s more. I happened to find myself in her chair years later at a different salon. It was for a trim and she told me the horrifying story of her bad experience once where a client of hers had a chemical reaction and she spent the day picking out the dreadlocks. 🙄

So I am HERE for a Growth Challenge. I've never caught one from the very beginning to try and do it with you, which might make for great motivation 🤔, so yes... I'm an excited Yes vote! 💜

Aww, I feel your pain love. I miss your inches too⚘️ But you still look gorgeous and I'm excited to see your new growth journey. I'm actually scheduled for my first silk press and professional trim/haircut since going natural in 2016. My hair in its natural state (thanks to your powders, oils and practices🥰) went from bra strap length to just at waist length. I found your channel after I had a terrible set back that resulted in me cutting about 5-6 inches of hair, and within a year my hair grew even longer than what it was pre-set back. I definitely have trust issues, but thankfully I found a stylist who EVERYONE raves about from her knowledge of hair care to her gentility with curly strands. I KNOW I need a professional cut, but I'm really nervous. Anyway, be encouraged love, we're out here in the Pocono mountains of Pennsylvania cheering for you♥️

I've never really liked my hair straight and I only get a blow out for a professional trim. Before I get a trim, I always say definitively that I only want a trim or else they will always trim too much. Ready for lots of hair growth and thickness too in 2023!

@@michelesmith7263 it’s a combination of things. I make sure to wash and deep condition weekly. I use heat when I deep condition and I add olive oil and essential oils to my conditioner. I also employ the use of Amla, Shikaikai and aloe Vera powders the way Curly Proverbz shares. I use Natty Naturals leave in conditioner (this for me has Ben trial and error. Sometimes I use Camille Rose Moisture Milk. For twists Almond Jai Twisting Butter and seal with an oil mixture (lately olive, walnut seed oil, rosemary and lavender essential oils). I spritz with a hair tea or aloe Vera juice depending on what is going on with my hair. When it feels really dry I use Naptural85’s pre- poo using aloe vera gel and oils. I sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase. I also spray my hair every other day or as needed.

You need to be very specific about what you want them to cut off. I would suggest that you bring a measuring tape, like tailors use with you so that they understand what an inch is. Yesterday I gave a haircut to a friend who has not had her hair cut in over three years. Her ends were pretty damaged, and she wanted a good amount off, but not cut too short. I had her point to where she wanted it cut, and hold her finger there while I held up the measuring tape. Her husband took a photo to show her where it would be and see that she was asking for 8” off. She said yes, that was what she wanted. So I pinned it up in sections, then let it down in increments to cut her hair to the desired length. She was happy with the results and her husband loved it. So getting good communication about what you want before they start cutting is paramount to avoid getting your hair cut too short.

I only straighten for a trim and length check. I understand the shock after you've grown your hair out so much. Loosing that much in a stylist chair is why I haven't to a stylist much. My hair has grown, but not to where I'd like, so I'm going to be building a relationship with a stylist some friends of mine trust to get my ends trimmed and ensure my hair is flourhing.

The first healthy hair cut is a shock. But if your hair and scalp are healthy it will grow back. Keep up your trim schedule and you will only have “dusting “ from now on. My first healthy hair cut went from bra strap to shoulder. Now it’s waist length, and I only get dustings every 8 to 12weeks. I wear my hair straight and curly, depending on how I feel. The great thing about natural hair is we can do both, if we wish to. No right way or wrong way just YOUR, the individual’s choice.

@@trishiscute no. A healthy hair stylist wouldn’t cut off more than needed. The woman I go to , we always have a conversation and she shows me my ends before she cuts. I also know what I’m looking at, so I know how much needs to be cut.

I haven't gotten my hair since 5th grade and yesterday at age 28 I got one. I absolutely love the short hair cut style ❤️❤️❤️ I've ruined my hair so much over the years that my hair stylist literally saved my hair 🙏🏼 It was rough and brittle and dead and super uneven. Badly uneven and she cut all that off and I didn't realize how much new healthy hair I had growing ❤️ I have that mixed black and white hair. I got it cut shoulder length and never thought I could rock such a style but it's beautiful.
