Even really wealthy families just abandoned thousands of these money draining properties. It is budgeted a thousand pounds a day for maintenance for a chateau sized ones hence the money makers don't find the worth of maintaining other than privilege reason.

Here after having watched 100’s of your GCN videos, until now you’ve not once mentioned this privilege or even remotely come across as a someone who fits the old money stereotype. A really nice transparent video, showing people that although blessed with this inheritance, this is the reality of what’s involved, and that the reality is that the newest generation are normal, and face normal challenges. Best of luck to you both.

As a long time Poldark fan, I saw the thumbnail and said, "That's Trenwith!" I also saw a video of the Poldark cast Vogue photo shoot there. I'm excited to learn that this great house will be maintained and modern uses found for the outbuildings and land. Though I'm an American (living in the Southwest), I have English heritage myself, and consider videos of manors, castles, and landscapes (look into the famous Capability Brown; he might have designed your park lands in the 1700s) to be a favorite escape from the stress of everyday life here. Your Aunt is a gem, and I look forward to hearing more of her stories. Do consider whether restoration is best for certain rooms with historic woodwork, etc., versus renovation, which can be necessary for kitchens and bathrooms. I'm adding you to my list of favorite historic house fixers! Cheers!

This is awesome. I watched "Hank" on GCN, and I had no idea the he was some sort of British royalty! Now I'm almost certainly going to get sucked into this channel. My granny moved from England to Canada after WW2, so I love a little British history. Canada became a country in 1867, so it hard to imagine a 500 year old house here. The oldest stuff I see around me is left over stuff from the 1890's mining boom, but even that is pretty rare.

One thing I always wish when I watch these videos is to see at least a sketch of the floor plan for the manor. There are a lot of architecture geeks and I'm one of them! Even a hand-drawn sketch is fine, nothing formal enough to use for breaking and entering...! After all, we want the manor protected and preserved. Thank you for sharing.

As I worked as a PM on turning containers into shops (mostly bakeries) I have a tipp for you. If you want to build more of those you should look into office containers. You get them used and they were build to accommodate people, not cheap Chinese goods. It is cheaper to turn a hybrid bike into a race bike than starting with a BMX.

Have just subscribed, I retired:2 years ago looking after lots of buildings that were G1, G2 and listed by local authorities as sites of special interest. With these buildings, its not just what you can see that you need to look after, but everything behind. I'd say from experience thats probably 80% of where the cost is, especially when in buildings of this size and age re wiring and plumbing are essential. A lot of people make the mistake of shoving in central heating systems, when if fact this is the worst thing you can do. Good luck, its definitely going to be a ride. 👍
