hey scott, long time subscriber and carpenter from the uk here. just wanted to say that these videos, the most recent ones in particular I can only really describe as soul healing. I've been working in the trade since I left school and have long felt myself disillusioned in my line of work. I'm sure every tradesman or woman has had those moments of doubt.. the physical toll on your body, the pressure to meet crunch deadlines and passing comments of people who look down on anything construction adjacent for whatever reason. can't count how many times I've thought about throwing in the towel and trying something else, especially in my first few years but in the end everything kind of just works itself out. it is the satisfaction that comes with problem solving and making mistakes that makes this so rewarding when it all materialises. sorry for being overbearing on a video about fixing plywood to a ceiling but these videos are just so extremely authentic and encapsulate the best parts of this line of work, thanks for uploading

Absolutely our most favorite place in the world. So beautiful, hectic, peaceful, organised, polite, ancient, futuristic, everything - amazing. (Greetings from Sydney)

Excellent episode! I have travelled quite a bit and without doubt the most rewarding experiences are if you get a chance to live with the locals. Experiencing everyday people just going about their lives. For me it's the people and culture I find most interesting. I don't like to rush through a country hitting all the tourist hotspots so I can collect t-shirts. I much prefer to stay in one location and explore and really get to absorb the culture.

Back in the very early 2000s (IIRC) Australia won the Bledisloe Cup for the first time in something like 21 years and the OZ papers proclaimed the Wannabees as the champions of Rugby (as opposed the Thugby) in the known and unknown Universe. I don't think the Whineabees have won the Bledisloe since then. My snarkiness is addressed *NOT* at the incredible and skilful players but the Welsh common name coach....you know who you are Eddie aka Mr Million Excuses.

One of the hardest things I did was doing this exact job on a ceiling. The hari (large tree trunk beams) always got in the way and putting a solid 1.8m plywood through the gap was very hard and required precision cutting and planning. Also, I hope they tightened the bolts in the corners, they are about loose or about to fall off by now for sure ;)

First of all, props to you and Jess for volunteering. Is that plywood Luan? It looks like it. Scott, you have to get yourself an a ink line. Forget chalk lines. Far more precise. Japanese carpenters, don't use a chalk line. Enjoy your time in Japan

The highlight of the video for me is the Dale Earnhardt shirt Nikita is wearing 10 seconds into the video. Its interesting about the size of plywood. Where I live in Northern Japan all plywood and polystyrene is 91 cm by 182 cm. Those measurements are based on what the tatami sized used to be. I heard that they were of different sizes across Japan. Its the first time that I see it. The ceiling looks good now.
