I actually love the smell of fresh hay. I love getting a huge delivery of it, sorting through it and putting it in the bins. The hay we get smells almost sweet and it's so pretty. But yes, gets everywhere and I am constantly going around with the shop vac to get rid of it. I love those grid pans! I made one for my big boy because he always had a filthy bum and feet and it was so disgusting. I always had to wash his feet and bum, which isn't great because they're not supposed to get wet but you also can't leave those areas filthy. Making that style of box saved us!

I had a bunbox and quite enjoyed it actually, besides the fact that Sometimes my bunnies poop and pee would Sometimes be on the mesh part and just hadn’t fallen into the bottom (which was a pretty easy clean) it was pretty great- I will also say for anyone who is new/ doesn’t know this about bunnies this litterbox style is preferable to wire cages with the kind of style because the wire can be really bad for the bunnies feet and hurt them a lot- but with the plastic it seems way more comfortable in general so :) if anyone wants to know if the bunbox is worth getting! (The corner one I previously had was too big for my bigger bunny tho, but I did not try other sizes if they have other sizes so)

Personally I use a open litterbox as its better for my bunny's respiratory system and helps them feel safer, I think open litterboxes > closed or covered litterboxes. A tip to less smell while using open litterboxes is to keep it clean and have good ventilation in the place. Hay can smell but having fresh air really does minimize it, I personally don't use an air purifier. One thing about the litterbox featured in the video is that they aren't the best for a rabbit's feet as it may cause strain. Using a normal open litterbox with high sides can reduce the flicking of bedding and poops out. Also litterboxes need to be big (at least big enough that your bunny can do a 360 degree turn in it. This is not a hate comment in any way, I think some of the tips like the hay storage was really useful but I think that the litterbox situation was not the very best(too small, covered, and the grids effect on their feet). Again this is not meant to spread hate in any way, I love your channel and CB a lot💕💖
@SincerelyCinnabun2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! thanks for the feedback! one note to avoid any confusion here for other viewers: There is a lot of information about grids + sore hocks out there. The grid on the Bumbox is a soft and high quality plastic that’s safe for little bunny feet. Sore hocks typically develop from extended periods of time on *wire* grid floors, or from spending too much time on tough materials. Additionally, sore hocks can be prevented by providing multiple soft services for your bun to roam freely on. Never use a *wire* grate as this can cause hock sores and discourage your rabbit from visiting the litter box. I hope this helps clear up any confusion or hesitancy 💕

Thanks for the tips! Love your hay shed!! Brilliant!! I have an odor-controlling tip for you: use pine wood pellets as bedding. It covers up litter box odors really well so you don’t have to change it as often, is all natural (just make sure you get kind that is not made with gas accelerant for cooking), is really cheap (I get a 40lb bag at my local hardware store for $10) and you only have to use a little bit at a time so a bag lasts a long time. If you are into composting, you can throw the used litter into the bin. Also, I noticed that you use Clorox urine remover in this video. FYI, Clorox urine remover contains hydrogen peroxide which is a very strong chemical. There are lots of urine removers on the market that don’t have strong chemicals that are enzyme-based (i.e. they break down the urine naturally) and work very well. However, many of these enzyme-based cleaners have strong perfumes. Buns have very sensitive respiratory systems so I am trying to use a cleaner that has less of a scent. Still searching. 😊
@elsiefuller49572 жыл бұрын
Good Idea but please note that it could be really bad for your bunny and make them extremely sick if the ingest the pine pellets. no hate just some advice
@ValLeeWeblog2 жыл бұрын
Yes, very nice litter box! For best set-up for me, I use Pelletize Bedding. Extremely cheap at any farm store. It removes the smell and absorbs the urine. You don't have to change for many days. I also put a pee pad underneath.

I like the idea of a bumbox but don't bunnies eat some of their cecotropes so won't this grid stop that from being able to happen if it falls straight in?

I love the look of the hutch that the litterbox is in, but there is no air flow whatsoever in there. Rabbit's respiratory systems are incredibly sensitive. Without air flow, she could easily develop an issue. I know you've been using this for some time now, but it could build up to having problems. I've seen it happen a lot. Id have a hutch for my litterbox, but Id have lots of air holes and openings to allow good air flow. Also, Id have an air purifier right beside the hutch. This isn't trying to attach you...just trying to help you since she is your first rabbit.

yes, I commented on this in an earlier video too. All the smells of waste, hay, and dander need to be aired out before a lung infection develops or cancer. That's why hooded litterboxes are not recommended. Same thing with scented candles or fragrances,. They aren't good for humans and especially not animals. I also was interested in the litter box she mentioned but it's way too small. You can tell if you click on the link and watch the video.

Consider the size of the room and that candles use up oxygen in the 🔥process especially if door is closed, and many candle scents may be uncomfortable to bunny's sensitive sense of smell and affect their respiratory system...cause discomfort or headache, as with ppl.
