My buns don't smell and neither does my apartment as long as the litter boxes are clean. The only way people know we have bunnies (besides my 9lb girl coming up to say hello to anyone who walks in the door) is because as I've been told my place smells like hay 😂. @@lienecarter6411 they're no more terrified of the robot vacuum than they were of the standard vacuum. when its running they both leave it alone, one of my rabbits hides from it (she hides from all loud noises, including the standard vacuum) and the other watches it clean from the safety of his pen (though he is deaf and therefore was never scared of the vacuum to begin with). I keep my rabbits in an x pen so the vacuum never enters their pen and i dont run it while their out of the pen. i have the charger bunny proofed though so when the bunnies free roam they dont bother it.

I invested in a roomba, and it was the best money I have ever spent. I have two buns that are cage free, so having a roomba to help me with the daily sweep has been amazing for dust and hair control. The Cloud That Drifted Away they are wonderful companions. But they require lots of work. Since they are prey animals, they take time to trust anyone. But it’s so worth it when they finally do. If you want a rabbit do lots of research and make sure you are ready, they require a good amount of time and money to take care of.

I'm impressed you are able to manage sweeping every day. At our house, it turns into what I call the Broom Game with rabbits chasing the broom, sitting in the dustpan, kicking piles every which way, chewing on bristles, and being as unhelpful as rabbitly possible. It's more an exercise in pet entertainment than housecleaning. We all collapse in an exhausted heap afterwards.

I love your bunny videos! Have you thought about adopting a little bunny buddy for Lennon? I always felt bad about having a single bun because everyone told me that they need a bonded bunny friend. Just a thought, keep doing you! :)

That is really common advice, but it's often not individualized enough. Bunnies can be just fine as single housepets so long as their humans have time to give them enough attention. Most bunnies are indeed happiest with bunny friends, but there are bunnies who just don't like other bunnies, or prefer the company of humans, or even cats.

I have 3 rabbits and one of them has to be kept separate because she will not bond AT ALL. The other two have bonded perfectly (I did the bonded on my own) and I am experienced in this so it isn’t that I’m not aware. She doesn’t like sharing her space and goes crazy. She loves my company but not my other rabbits so they are upstairs and I have her in the living room so I can see and spend time with her constantly.

You’ve helped me so much with my rabbit, I remember when I first got her from a flea market and they sold me a ginuea pig cage to keep her in. I found you a week later and started free roaming her. She loves roaming around and I find it to be less messy because there’s no bulky cage, I have cats so it’s really just one more litter box, a plate, and hay basket, and a water bowl. If it weren’t for your videos I don’t think my rabbit would have such a happy life, she even chases my cats around to play with them and sleeps on the couch with me and comes to the door when I get home. A cage wouldn’t allow her any of that freedom. Thanks so much for your videos! ❤️❤️

Thank you so much for your channel and this was a terrific little vid. I did not know what I was doing with my first rabbit several years ago. It would have helped to have something like this then! With your helpful guidance, I've learned a lot about bonding with my new bun. Alice is a little Holland Lop that showed up on my porch one day. The neighborhood had become a dumping ground for abandoned bunnies. One of the neighbors brought her over and asked what to do. Well, I couldn't say, "Bring her to a shelter," now could I? That face. She melted me. I found your channel that day and have been hooked ever since. I wish I had fewer books in the house so she's limited to a smaller space off the back porch (inside and with a heater) but she quickly showed that she does not need to be in a pen. What manners! Watching you and Lennon has inspired me to be a good bunny mom. Thank you!

Great video! Shop Vacs are great for rabbit cleanup. They are powerful, don’t clog and have floor attachments. Some also pick up liquids. For brooms, I like the ones that come with a long-handled (waist high) dust pan so that I don’t have to bend over when sweeping debris into the dust pan. I use a 50/50 water/white vinegar mixture for all my clean up needs. Works great on urine, etc and has almost no odor.

I've had my beautiful Havana bunny girl for six days. today she finally embraced her toilet and used it! such a proud mama. ;) it's so interesting to see how in under one week, she has already shown such progress. she's jumping around and letting me pet her and she doesn't get as startled anymore. she's such a good bun bun. she had been sitting in a small cage for 5 months when i found her... so I am SO happy she is doing well :) I don't know if you've seen my messeges before, but i'll just like to say once again, that you really inspired me to get a bunny and help out the ones that are in need. you have given me great ideas and taught me how to take care of my girl in the best way. so THANK you very much. p.s I really adore all your videos. You always make such lovely aesthetically pleasing ones - and your piano music is just the best. I think i probably watch you every day. it's just so comforting and nice to watch you and lennon. don't know why. it's makes me feel happy. Have a great day Lorelai - and Lenny. :)

I was given a bunny named Peter from a family that couldn't take care of him because they were scared of him after he had been gifted to them by some friends. I know nothing about his background like what breed he is or if he's neutered or not or even what age he is. All I know is that the only reason the previous family had been scared of him because he has really long and sharp nails. He lives in a bunny cage, it's fairly big but recently he's been trying to escape from if by trying to lift this opening from above the cage. He's a good boy since when I let him out, when and he no longer wants to be out, he returns to his cage. Recently though he's begun to nibble at me a lot. Even lick me but mainly nibbling. Is there like a certain meaning behind that or maybe a way to let him know when he nibbles too hard? Along with some other tips as to what I could do as a newbie to caring for him? I really just want him to be happy and definitely get him to be a free-roam bunny as soon as I can.
@junebug3354
@junebug3354 5 жыл бұрын
The little nibbles along with the licks is he is loving on you. He's trying to groom you like he would another rabbit. Rabbits will also give you a little nibble to tell you a move. To teach him bite inhibition (how to not bite you too hard) everytime he nibbles too hard make a loud squeak/scream as a rabbit would. It lets him know he's hurting you, he doesn't want to hurt you so he'll learn to be more gentle. Also you need to get his nails clipped he can hurt his little paws if they're too long. I did all of this with my bunny girl and she's all well and trained in those areas now ^_^. Read the House Rabbit Handbook and watch Lennons videos! They'll give you all the info you need on rabbits. There is also the house rabbit association website that has rabbit info too!

Congrats on rescuing your bunny. I'd suggest taking him for a wellness check at the vet's office. If his claws are too long, they'll be able to trim them. The vet will also be able to tell you if he's been neutered or not ( although, truth to tell, intact male bunnies are easy to tell... like all rodents, the males have rather large testicles). If he does need to be neutered, they'll be able to tell you how much that will cost.

Honestly his previous owners sound really neglectful. It's lucky he was able to get a better home with you. Rabbits need regular nail trimmings, which can be done at a vet, or at home if you know how and are confident. Living in a cage can make rabbits aggressive and antisocial, and they feel like you are invading their territory whenever you reach in, because they have so little space that is their own (imagine how mad a cat would be if it was kept in a cage, and then realize rabbits are just as intelligent and independent!). In addition, neutering is often essential for a rabbit to be well behaved and have a good life as a housepet. So, the two best things I think you can do right now are (1) replace the cage with an x-pen and (2) take him for a vet appointment to find out if he is neutered and if he needs any health care. The x-pen can serve as a transitional space until you are ready to have him free roam. It also makes a good confined space to start litterbox training and to prevent him from running around too much when recovering from neuter surgery. You can put a spillproof tablecloth or pee-proof doggie blanket beneath it to protect your flooring until he is trained. When you are ready to transition to free roaming, begin by letting him out of the x-pen for supervised playtime a few hours a day. This will let you see what kinds of trouble he is likely to get into, and then you can gradually start rabbit proofing your house. It will also give you an opportunity to intervene and put him in his litterbox if he tries to pee or poop. Increase his playtime as reward for good litterbox habits. Here is a reddit thread with advice for new rabbit owners. It includes links to example setups and where you can buy an x-pen www.reddit.com/r/Rabbits/comments/a0ub64/any_advice_for_a_new_rabbit_owner/eal5e3s

I agree it sounds as if Peter's previous family was not properly caring for him, so a vet checkup is definitely a good idea, to make sure everything is okay. Lots of good advice on here already, so one thing that helped me is weighing your pet weekly or daily. This is not required as the vet weighs your rabbit during checkups, but it's a good way to catch illnesses early. (You can use a pet scale or use a regular scale by weighing yourself, then you holding Peter and subtracting the difference.) The weight should be consistent especially if done at the same time of day. Any change that is more than a pound is not normal. Other oddities that indicate illness is "gasping" (rabbits are incapable of breathing through their mouth because of the build of their tracheae, but will make "gasping" movements if there is a blockage, inflammation or just not getting enough air) Putrid odors from ears (infections) glossy eyes (should be bright and alert) and dry, flakey skin (dehydration, and rabbit skin is very elastic). Also rabbits have two kinds of fecal matter. One is goopey and soft (rabbits eat these cecotropes) and the other look like whole cloves are are usually 1/2-1 cm in diameter. I hope this is not overwhelming and a lot of these checks can be done while playing with your rabbits, feeding them and cleaning their environment. I've had a lot of experience with rabbits being sick, unfortunately, (and part of this is in my earlier rabbit experience was with misguided information) so these are things I became attuned to. The important thing is rabbits are prey animals and naturally try to hide their illness. By learning about your rabbits wonderful quirks and patterns of behavior, you'll learn what is normal for them. I wish you both the best of luck and happiness.

Rabbits are not rodents. They are Lagomorphs and need to eat a diet different from rodents Mostly hay, not grains life rodents with corn, nuts, etc. ) but there are similarities.

Thanks to you, I am very proud of my baby's and I am so glad you post videos of how to PROPERLY care for a bunny. I have partly potty trained my bunnies so far. They use the litter box when they need to pee or poop and they also eat there. sometimes they have accidents but not pee accidents. They are 2 months old and are very smart. I actually rescued them from a person who was selling them on Craigslist. The original owner had four baby girls and one boy, along with two bunny parents that were all stuffed in one cage. They had one big dog and a brand new litter of kittens. Honey and Hopper are happy being here at our new home and appreciate being free roam bunnies. I took your advice about getting a litter box (With hay, litter, and puppy pads) Heavy ceramic bowls (To help the bowls not tip) and I even learned how to make toys for them. I don't know what I would have done with them or what to do to help them if it weren't for you. Thank you Lorelei, and thank you Lennon :) Sincerely, A huge fan

I use a large storage table to place my buns littertray/hay rack. It’s called IKEA HOL. If you google ‘bunny Ikea hol’ you will see it. It has solved many issues for me and my bun. The hay remains inside the HOL, and the smell from the litter tray is reduced. You should totally check it out! Much better than your standard littertray, as the HOL fits in nicely with the rest of your furniture, too!

I know you don't know me, to be honest i'm just another human on earth. :) BUT! I wanted to say: Thank you so so so so much. My mom and dad has said no to freeeroaming for around 4 months, cause my sister did and she ruined the room (she ripped all the paint off the walls without asking, she let them roam without perm, and etc. ) so she thought i'd do the same, I asked her again today, and started sharing all the ideas and facts i knew about them, because of you. They said yes!!! They said to deep clean my room, and No coards whatsoever, to move everything into the guest room! So i want to say from deep in my heart: Thank you for making my dream come true
