In this video I tell the story of my journey learning Arabic, starting from when I was a kid living in Cairo in Egypt, all the way to the present day in Jeddah Saudi Arabia. I also give my number one tip for any non-native speakers on how to learn Arabic, so stick around for that! I hope you enjoyed the video, and if you did leave a comment telling me what video you would like to see next!

As an arabic speaker myself and and an Egyptian aswell I can really say that your Arabic is great and when you said that you were a little stiff in Egypt but your arabic improved a lot when you moved to Jeddah that's definitely because in Egypt we speak informal Arabic but in Saudi Arabia they talk more formal than us that's why it was easier for you to blend in either than that everything you said was totally true cuz ive been learning English since kindergarten and now I'm 15 and I can speak English fluently as I've been practising it since a very young age so yes" العلم في الصغر كالنقش عالحجر"

He said he went to Arabic school as a very young kid and lived in Egypt for 6 years at that stage - given that opportunity, it would be much, much easier to absorb the language with flawless pronunciation. Look at how young he is now anyway. But regardless, it's great to see someone embrace the language and culture, especially as a Brit.

You can do this! It may be a very strange and weird language, that has more exceptions than rules. But truly you can do this. I am a native English speaker and am going through the process of relearning Turkish ( Türkçe). Which it was one of my first languages (I was born and raised in Turkey), but I moved to the states with my parents (who are From the States-born and raised) when I was nine. I am going through the process of relearning Turkish. I have had to start from the basics and its is going to be a long journey to relearn or really learn it. I am in my early twenties. From all those people who you can watch who are learning or who have learned more than one language, most of them are 18+. Please don’t give up and you can do this. You have two years, you can do this again. Step by step little by little. From someone learning a language to another. And I apologize for going so long.

It's great to hear about your Arabic learning journey! I'm also a native English speaker, and I'm studying Levantine Arabic as an adult. I used to think that it was too hard for adults to learn foreign languages, but then I started watching a lot of content by polyglots and linguists. And now I understand that the biggest advantages that children have over adults in learning foreign languages is their level of immersion/exposure to the target language (like when someone like you moves to the Middle East and is surrounded by the language for several hours, 5 days a week, or when immigrants and refugees move to a new country) and their attitude of wanting to learn how to speak just like their peers and not being paralyzed by a fear of making mistakes. But adults can try to adopt that same attitude and try to expose themselves to the language as much as they can. And we have the advantage of understanding a lot about how languages work on a conscious level, which can allow us to make quick progress. Since most of your KZbin audience is probably adults, it would be really interesting to hear your dad's Arabic learning story and language learning tips. Shukran jazeelan!
