Your Chinese is amazing! And your accent actually sounds legit.
I don't know a single word in chinese, but as a Brazilian I feel tones are the most important thing by far, and then all those consonants (z/c/s, zh/ch/sh, j/q/x). Once you got all this extremely crazy stuff internalized you might be ready to start learning the language as a whole.
I haven't spent a lot of time on Chinese, but have in Thai. You're right that the "secret" is just spending a lot of time in the right level of listening and reading ("I+1" in SLA talk). I tell people all the time that learning a language isn't complicated, but it's extremely difficult in mostly the same way that becoming a top-level distance runner is. Put in the right kind of time, and lots of it. There aren't really any shortcuts, despite all the videos trying to tell you that there are.

I'm just at the beginning of learning Chinese. I have dabbled in a bit of Duolingo, and I try and find out the pronunciation, write and practice saying any characters I see. Tones are a big struggle for me, I feel like it is a hurdle, that will take a lot of repetition to overcome. I made a Weibo account, and I have made some friends, and so that has given me so much inspiration and motivation to be able to speak Chinese. I've also been able to see, how the language is used on a daily basis. I try to translate the descriptions of posts I see, and see what I understand, and don't. It's going to be a long journey, and I am just at the very beginning, but I've learnt German to a conversational(ish) level, and I know I can learn another language!
