Finally, the Nordic Trifecta has been completed. Swedish was the last one from the North, but not even the smell of Surströmming will stop me at this point (just kidding, it might). As usual, Duolingo got a bit venereal towards the end, but that ain't new. Almost half-way through the 38 languages in Duolingo!

There is a variant spelling dom, but dom isn’t really suitable for ppl, but, döm or dem maybe - some pronounce the de as dom and some pronounce it de, depending on what city they live in! I am intermediate level in Swedish / Norwegian / German etc and advanced level in Dutch and beginner level in Icelandic and in most other Germanic languages, so this was so easy for me, as I knew all the words in the video! However, the only true Latin languages are Galician / French / Gallo / Portuguese / Catalan / Spanish / Occitan / Latin / Aranese / Guernsey / Esperanto / Italian & the other Italian-based languages and the language spoken in Wallonia / Belgium & the other French-based languages and the other Portuguese-based languages that may exist, which sound refined and pretty, just like the 6 Celtic languages as well as all Germanic languages - it’s so wrøng when ppl incorrectly classify non-pretty uncouth languages that are a bad mix of Turkic / Slavic languages as ‘Latin’ and, there are also a few other incorrect language classifications, for example, Hungarian which is (more like, used to be) a Turkic language, but is incorrectly classified as a ‘Finno’ language, even though it looks and sounds nada like Finnish / Estonian and it shares no root words, while having the same structure and grammar etc and the same root words as Turkish, such as the word alma / elma, which means apple, but nowadays Hungarian is a different language, being the only Turkic language that evolved into a pretty language with mostly pretty words, such as nyelv and szemetes etc! Italian is a pretty language with pretty word endings and nice pronunciation - it’s kinda unfair to compare non-pretty languages with pretty languages, and Italian is similar to the other Italian-based languages! Besides, lots of languages have half of the vocab from a certain language family, but they don’t sound and don’t look at all as the languages from that language family, like, for example, some of the languages incorrectly classified as ‘Indo-European’ which are Arabic languages in fact, because they look and sound as Arabic, even though they may have been an ‘Indo-European’ language in the beginning, because mall languages got modified, and some languages got changed / modified a lot, to the point they have been made into a completely different language - so having many words that came from Latin doesn’t make a language a Latin language, when the word endings are so hørribIe and the pronunciation is so uncouth and the letter combinations are not a good letter combination, that doesn’t sound at all as a Latin language, but as a real bad version of Slavic languages with Turkish influences, and the true Latin languages that I listed above all have pretty word endings and a nice pronunciation that makes them sound elegant and pleasant to the ear and most true Latin words have good letter combinations (letters that go well 2gether) and, only pretty languages with mostly pretty words should be learned / should be spoken!

BTW, the G is sometimes pronounced I / Y in Swedish, in words like helg / varg etc which sound like heli / vari etc - and, the special words kvinna / kvinne / kvinde / flicka / tjej / jente / girl(s) / maiden(s) / chick(s) / lass etc only reflect me!

Just for one Hungarian is Uralic aka Finno-Ugric and its base vocabulary is composed of Finno-Ugric roots with clear cognates in other Finno-Ugric languages and folloows regular sound laws, it has a lot of Turkic loanwords because of its history. Loanwords do not change a language genealogy, there is a difference between loanwords and cognates. Cognates are shared roots from a common proto-language. Romanace languages descend from Latin, Romanian may have substrate influence from, Dacian and Slavic influences but is as Romance as Classical Latin. I mean your comment is nonsense.

Clarification about "Dom": "De"/"Dem" is the Swedish equivalence to "they"/"them". It's a bit confusing to learn since they sound and are used so similarly, so it naturally evolved to the umbrella term "Dom" over time. The original words are still enforced in writing, but we mostly just say "dom" for both cases when speaking. It is okay to write "dom" as well, but it is often considered a bit sloppy or casual.

The "om" is not particle "tycker om" is a phrase that means "like" so the sentence "jag tycker om dig" means "i like you" since it uses "tycker om" as a phrase but the sentence "vad jag tycker om dig" means "what i think about you" because it uses "tycker" and "om" as individual word

Norwegian and Old Norse are the prettiest Nordic languages (they’re almost the same as Danish and Icelandic / Faroese, most words are spelled the same way or have only one different letter) and Dutch & English and Old Norse / Norwegian are the prettiest Germanic languages and the prettiest languages in the world - Dutch / English / Norwegian / Old Norse are the prettiest and most refined languages with the most pretty and poetic words, but all other Nordic / Germanic languages are also gorgeous, and I have been learning a lot of new Icelandic words and new German words lately, and am intermediate level in Norwegian / Swedish / German and advanced level in Dutch and beginner level in most other Germanic languages, including Old Norse & Icelandic & Faroese and Danish (I can understand a lot of written Danish because I know over 3.500 words in Norwegian) and Luxembourgish and the 3 Frisian languages and Limburgish and Norn / Old English / Gothic etc, which are all so pretty, and Icelandic & Old Norse & Faroese are also a Nordic language, and some Swedish / Norwegian words are the same as or are very similar to some of the Icelandic words!

The 3rd person plural pronoun is written “de” in the subject form, and “dem” in the object form. These forms correspond to an archaic stage of the spoken language. In modern speech, both are pronounced “dom”, but the archaic spelling is retained. “De” is cognate with English "They" “Dem” is cognate with English "Them". Imagine a variant of English where “They are big” is spoken “Them is big” spreads to become dominant at some point in the future… and today’s spelling for “they” remains the norm in writing!

Actually, that's not true because the rules are different in both languages. In English, the difference between "a" and "an" is "Does the associated word start with a vowel or a consonant?" "a snack" and "an apple" But in Swedish, the difference between "en" and "ett" is "Is the associated word Common Gender or Neuter Gender?" "en bok" starts with a consonant, but "en öl" does not. They use the same non-definitive because they are both common gender. "ett äpple" and "ett djur" are also good neuter gender examples of how the English rules don't really apply in Swedish like you say. Also, if I recall correctly (not a native speaker), I'm pretty sure "de" is the subject spelling and "dem" is the actual object spelling for "they/them" "dom" is more casual and slang-like.

@Carolusrex7627 Haha, it's so funny because your sentence is so similiar to German ("Schwedisch ist ganz leicht"). But one of the things which confuses me all the time with Swedish is the plural. Sometimes its -ar sometimes it's -or. :/
