It takes practice to get good at using HelloTalk or Tandem to have good exchanges. It helps a ton that you’re already conversational. You could be up to speed pretty quickly but it will probably feel awkward at first. I did a lot of language exchanges studying Japanese. I haven’t had any good ones with Korean yet - my Korean isn’t so good 😂. Talking to yourself is great practice. I haven’t done it much with Korean yet because I think it’s something that kind of comes naturally because you want to do it. I used to love the sound of German and thought everything in German sounded cool. I therefore loved talking to myself or translating to German in my head. I wanted to learn Japanese so badly but it was more to talk to people, read manga, or enjoy anime. I didn’t really love the sound of the language per se. People hear that and think I was being forced to learn Japanese but that was not the case. Not everyone studying a language loves the way it sounds. I don’t know if that’s part of why you talk to yourself in Korean? I finally started talking to myself in Japanese after moving to Japan. I naturally started imagining conversations in Japanese. I didn’t have to force it my brain just started doing it since Japanese was everywhere. I don’t think you can force yourself to think in a language or talk to yourself at least not very long but maybe you can give yourself a little push. I never lived in Germany but I definitely talked to myself in German. I think the same can happen for Korean eventually 😂.

Hey Paul! Appreciate you watching my video again and thanks on the insight on the talking apps. Btw, 日本語もできるってすごいですね👏 Hmm...I'm not so sure if I like the sound of Korean but that's something to consider. I think I talk to myself in Korean simply because I had/have a goal (to use Korean when/if I go to Korea) but it could be because I surround myself with so much Korean that it's everywhere now (as was the case with you & Japanese). Also, I love how you don't force anything with languages and just wait till it comes naturally. Seems similar to my entire Korean situation - especially since I also started out with the desire to enjoy variety shows and better understand song lyrics😂

@@Likeit_language I understood everything :) I love how you seemed to have enjoyed both Guam and Saipan. The people of Guam are lovely, aren't they? Right now, there are more Korean tourists than Japanese! Also, we usually just keep the thumb and pinky up when we greet each other. They do it in Hawaii too and it's called "hang loose." Thank you so much for enjoying my videos and responding in Korean! Appreciate the support!

Thank you for the advise to talk to yourself as a way to pratice a foreign language. Yes, I think that's helpful. It reminded me of people wearing airpods/earpods in public. They seem to be talking to themselves. Lol. So we can also do that to practice in public by wearing airpods/earpods and literally talk to ourselves so we can practice any foreign language we are learning and not feel embarrassed. Lol

Since summer 2020! It’s been 4 years already. To add to that, I’ve been invested in other Asian languages for over 10 years which makes it easier to pick up Korean for me. People tend to forget language learning takes YEARS and give up when they’re not immediately fluent. You said you “think you got better.” That’s such a powerful statement. That means there’s been progress these past 10 months!🤩 Don’t get discouraged and keep going step by step! You got this✨ Ps Keep enjoying those kpop content and try to look up and research words, mimic what they’re saying, read Korean subtitles, read lyrics, and you’ll definitely improve even more!
