It's SO vital to make a meal plan and buy what you actually need - unless you're even more organised like me and buy in bulk (legumes, pasta, tinned veg, rice, fish plus essentials like bleach, loo rolls, washing powder, shampoo, toothpaste, cat food etc) to avoid the constant price rises. Here in Scotland you can get 15 eggs for £1.99 at aldi..various weight..but most are a good size...Ideal for egg (poached, fried or scrambled) and beans on toast snack...Or a veg omelette made with a hand full of the mixed veg. Make sure to defrost or cook a little in the pan before adding the eggs...And can be used to make pancakes (savoury or sweet) with a big bag of cheap flour. Or batter for toad in the hole (or just yorkshire puds) Or even microwave cup cakes with cheap vanilla flavouring with a little sugar as a treat ...Though you could make pancakes with out eggs!..I have...You could use blended oats for the pancakes..If you have a blender or folks have a problem with flour.

(I saw a comment about Lidl fruit and veg not being great too - I find this true of most supermarkets and even my local greengrocer these days, unfortunately! Frozen vegetables can be just as nutritious as fresh vegetables, and in some cases, they may be more nutritious. Frozen vegetables can retain their vitamins and minerals, and freezing can even preserve nutrients better than refrigeration. Frozen vegetables can be a convenient and cost-effective way to eat a variety of plants. They can be prepared with minimal effort, and they're available year-round. £1.20p at Tesco and last a good while. I considered that a bargain.
@Matty-fl2tuАй бұрын
@johnmacaroni105 I totally agree John but the chances are with mixed vegetables, it's gonna be carrots, peas, sweetcorn and green beans, which means with the other foods on the list will lack Vitamin K and iron, which dark leafy greens have especially spinach with also vit A, B and C, Potassium, foliate, magnesium,, mixed veg would be great if there were items on the list containing Vit K and Iron

(1), Boil a portion of Macaroni ( or penne, fusilli, orso) with half afinely chopped onion if it's large. (2) Grate cheese for your topping and preheat grill medium heat. ( 3) Drain pasta and onion and put inyour cookig dish, mixing in a can of tomato soup. (4) Sprinkle grated chese. Add chopped bacon on top if you like or add a sliced tomato or a bit of courgette even. (5) Grill till golden crispy, serve with a dash of Worcester sauce and some rocket or lettuce on the side. Recipe from my late Mum's 1964 Woman's Own! If you like tinned tuna I've another cheap recipe , if you're interested

@julieedwards7178 Easy to double up or do on e serving. You need a tin of tuna, drained, a can of carrots, sliced and drained, mashed potato and a parsley sauce mix. In a saucepan, cook potatoes till ready to mash. Or use instant. You need enough to make a ring of potato around outside of plate or plates. In a medium saucepan, put in the parsley sauce mix with just under half pint of milk, stirring as you gently heat it. As it thickens ,add the carrots and flaked tuna. Bring to boil gently till thickened. Spoon sauce in centre of each plate and add, if wished, a dash of Worcester sauce.

Pork chops, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken, steak etc. Oh for anyone on a budget and eats Heinz soup in winter, give Lidl soup a try. It’s there Newgate brand. It costs 99p and tastes as close to Heinz’s as you can get but about half price. I usually buy the beef & veg, lamb, chicken & veg I also recommend Lidl simply eggs. 15 for £1,99 Lidl instant noodles I think Newgate 35p I buy 12 sausage, 16 bacon, 12 eggs for £8.25 and get 6 nice breakfasts and even a bit for dog. It’s really easy to eat tasty food for cheap and it’s also so easy to spend £3.99 on a crap tiny microwave meal that probably tastes ok at best. Anyway let’s start the video.

Aldi Lidl all now seem be same prices but dairy has gone so so expensive. Our milk went up €1.15 everywhere for one litre . Butter €3.69 own branded supermarkets jumped another €0.40-50c this week again . I started making cut back so less baking ( bake once with butter for baking treats - don’t buy them out ) making butter last and only using it for eggs in morning time . Mashed potatoes 1-2 times a week on top after they mashed with dash milk instead . I’m making my butter last me two weeks now due to that .i hate spreads so can’t buy those make it more affordable . I use coconut oil in bulk to cook dinners as olive oil way too expensive. If cook fatty meats or fish don’t use anything .

I don't eat a lot so for me I spend less anyway and since I went off meat I spend about £20-30 a week if I'm getting whatever I want lol

I have to say that for the most part your food is sugar. It may not look like it to you but all you’ve bought is food that will raise your insulin levels to a dangerous level. Please treat yourself better,you do deserve better. Well done on the eggs but please look after yourself

Sugar doesn't directly cause type 1 diabetes, but it can contribute to the risk factors for *type 2 diabetes* . Sugary foods and drinks are high in calories, and being overweight is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes. Then, huge amounts of tablets and injections follow.

When I do a food challenge like this I go on the categories on the Aldi website and put them in order from cheapest to most expensive so i can see what i can pick up for cheap. Rice 52p and pasta 41p are good ones. Also jam 39p, custard creams 45p, Natural Yogurt 35p, Kidney beans 33p, Spaghetti Loops 19p. I knew how much sausages and tinned tomatoes were before you said it 🤣

You forgot the honey mummy!!😜 Tip. The exact same weight of Lidl,Aldi and Saisbury basic honey is lots cheaper in glass jars than in the saueezy plastic crap!!

Just for comparison. We used to spend more per head on our RAF Police dogs than got spent on recruits. Also when i work in a care home 3 years ago the spend per day per resident was £1.37 for 3 meals out of the £1000 a week. Well done you for proving people don't need massive wages.

Just goes to show that even on a budget it is possible to eat healthy if you cook from scratch and avoid expensive processed convenience foods
