Nice job on the video. That’s the real side of hunting. Things don’t always follow the same script. Looking forward to seeing more content.

Thanks for posting this man. Need more stuff like this online. It's not always successful. This was a cool hunt either way. Subscribed, can' wait for this upcoming season man. I'm watching every whitetail video I can find lol!!!! :P

Heart shot is a perfect shot. Your shot hit back of the lungs/liver. Never aim behind the shoulder. Aim right where the front leg meets the body.
@donald64275 ай бұрын
Yup been there
@WalkerScarbrough5 ай бұрын
That’s a great way to hit bone and get no penetration. I’ve seen deer go a mile with a 2inch cut in the heart. The heart is the size of a baseball and the lungs are the size of a basketball or bigger. You are far more likely to hit lungs than the heart and you’re not close to any leg bones or shoulder blades aiming at lungs. Also GA deer are jumpy. They will drop a foot or more at 25 yards and all of that movement happens at the front shoulders. Whereas aiming a couple inches off the shoulders the body doesn’t drop as much. I used to be a heavish arrow smaller cut on contact and aim at the “V” guy but after losing some deer and hitting them bad from jumping I realized it wasn’t the move.

Shot is back a little coming in at an angle towards the back and down. Mechanicals will let you down. Deflect out the rear leg is possible or, just in front of the leg. Gut exit holes block the blood leak most times. Those big long blades are more apt to turn the direction of flight. I've seen them flip outward on a step angle rib clip.
@ThirdLawPair5 ай бұрын
That deer was bending its body towards you, so it was quartering-to more than it looked like. Also, sometimes an arrow can change directions inside of the animal. I suspect that you got a single lung shot on that one. This kind of thing happens way more than most hunters admit, and then they edit their videos to make it look like it always goes perfectly. I'm glad you are one of the honest ones who shares the footage of when it doesn't go perfectly.
@PoeOutdoors5 ай бұрын
The vitals move with the animal's chest and she is turned toward you significantly, the shot was way back. Put the arrow between the neck and the shoulder and she doesn't go 50 yards.
@WalkerScarbrough5 ай бұрын
The deer was quartered more than I thought but not "significantly". Watch the deer walk into the woods you can see the entry hole. Thats perfect, quartered slightly or not. She bled good in the plot until she got to the bed. No dark blood or stomach matter on the arrow. I used to shoot at front shoulders and necks with a different arrow setup and it didnt work well. First of all, no arrow setup will break a shoulder, only deflect and go around. Secondly when the deer jump and move before the shot, most of the movement happens between the neck and shoulder. They can drop up to a foot or more at 20 yards whereas 6 inches behind the shoulder it doesnt go down much at all. Check out my "story of Rhabdo" or "how fast can a deer jump the string" video to see what im talking about. The Rhabdo video I hit him way back and it was still an inch from the back of his lungs when we cleaned him. He also dropped hard but it didnt matter because I was aiming farther back.

Skin is elastic and glides over the ribcage, that hole means nothing at rest. If the shot were "perfect" as you say, the deer would have been recovered. It was well back. The real problem is most bowhunters are clueless when it comes to a whitetail's anatomy. I've found most mechanical guys say that about the "shoulder" to justify an inferior arrow system. Bowhunting is hard, which is why most choose a rifle. That doesn't mean making excuses for poor shot placement or weak arrow systems.
@WalkerScarbrough5 ай бұрын
@@PoeOutdoors Ive tried everything. If that system was better me and all the professional hunters and archers would be shooting them. Theres tons of times a rifle bullet doesnt go through both shoulders and you think adding 200 grains to your arrow is going to make a difference? The bow is putting out the same energy regardless. You're just trading speed for weight. I would rather shoot a lighter arrow with a big cut just off the shoulder, hit where im aiming because the deer isnt in a different zipcode before the arrow gets there, than aim at the shoulder with a small head. I build my setup to hit and kill quickly on the 85% of the vitals and stay away from the 15% that is blocked by bone. But thats just what makes sense to me....and most others

@@WalkerScarbrough Mechanicals have Issues. To big a cut is one, especially in the 2 blade ones. Deer angled towards you at all will become a big factor. To much elevation can be a big factor. The broadhead choice didn't factor in much here. It's a single lung gut shot deer. Poor blood trail do to Debris blocking the Holes. You should take a little more time to aim. You shot it like an instinctive shooter on a moving target. Don't rush the shot. Focus on staying in the bullseye and easing into the trigger.

I'm sure that deer died within an hour or less, it must have bled out internally. That stuff you were tracking in was so thick. Just bad luck on that one.
@contemporaryprimitiveman34695 ай бұрын
I shot an Illinois buck and hit the shoulder blade. Tracked him until after midnight and never found him or the arrow. 1 year later shot a buck from the same tree stand. Had a weird scar plug the size of my thumb. I pulled it out with pliers and found hair and a blazer vane in it. Same deer I lost.

I could tell the deer was hurt but I also could tell she was acting funny when running off keep this in mind when a deer is moving the heart is pumping so if you slow it down the whole time that deer walking off getting close to pine thicket I never seen the classic blood pump coming out either side that is when I knew you were in trouble by the way you can get help with thermal drones they can find deer fast

My young friend absolutely pin wheeled a buck. Never found him dead. But two weeks later he was on camera with the wound showing up plainly in the pic. Had to miss the heart by like one inch. Had a pass thru hit by the way. He later killed that buck with an almost identical hit. Crazy stuff. It was a 162 3/8ths.

You think by chances that broadhead didn’t deploy and open up until it hit the ground? Maybe a mechanical failure?

Possibly. But there was decent blood from the hit to where she laid down in the woods. So I think she was bleeding good until she laid down

@Bbbb4life5 ай бұрын
I feel for ya man! I've shot a lot of deer wirh 2 blade expandables. Honestly havent been all that impressed with blood trails or distance they go. Those were even 2.3" rear deploying ones making huge entrance holes. Swacker would only give you a 1" entrance hole. Definitely a downside of that head. I have a feeling that slits dont allow as much blood to splill out as the round holes left by a 3 or 4 blade. Many veins and arteries also run horizonally through the chest. A 2 blade may cut less of those big ones if its blades are also oriented horizontally when going through the animal. Also, other than swacker, both blades could get dulled by the ribs. Your chances of still having at least 1 blade missing the ribs and not dulling would be better with 3 or 4 blade.

Not sure why a doe would be treated differently than a big buck after the shot as far as not calling a dog. It’s just a doe isn’t a good reason to me 🤷♂️
