I think the moral of the story is, no matter how expensive your gear is, if you don't know how to mix the sound (in context of multiple instruments, or multiple takes with a single instrument), it will sound like crap.

My first amp as an adult was a Rolabd Cube 30. That was OK. Then I upgraded to a H&K Triamp with matching quad. I've never struggled with tone. These days I'm using the Triamp still, a Mesa TA-15 and a Marshall SV20. And a shite-ton of EQD fuzz pedals.

Thanks for the video. Using 2 mics is really a game changer. It would have been nice to hear isolated tones from each mic. We could really hear what each one is contributing to the overall tone. As far as clean tones, that would be cool too, but come on, its all about the gain! Thanks!

I bought the 2000 also. I had the dsl, I wish it had a master volume, I bought a metal zone for low volumes but I started using it all the time cause I didn't think the Amp had near enough distortion. Every once in a while I'd try it and ppl always said my amp sounded great and my pedal sounded bad. I didn't much care for the pedal either but it was giving me the distortion I thought I was missing. After like 10 ppl telling me, I tried micing and listening back. And revelation my Amp sounded great, great distortion my pedal like crap way too much distortion. So kinda like hearing your voice back. Also part of it, was I had to sit in another room with my door closed, cause the mic was picking up my picking even turned up loud. I think my hearing and feeling the strings, messes with me actually hearing what's coming out of the Amp. I really liked the deep button on that Amp.

In my humble opinion, the Peavey XXX and Peavey Joe Satriani signature all tube heads produce the finest sounding metal tones ever - to me anyway. I'm all for new technology but I will probably never use a plug in or software of any type as a substitute for just miking the real amps which many people do now. It's like give me the Millennium Falcon and the Tie Fighters, not a new digital representation of a spacecraft. To me it's not really an advancement in the technology as it's a whole new technology taking the place of the other technology. But that's OK, if it works for people, its all good. But what you said about just getting the best sound out of the amp first is not only how I feel, but Ed Van Halen said the same thing, and if that's what Ed thought, well, there's nothing more to say.

Dude, one of the biggest problem on tone lies over a very simple setting on the amp: volume. To get the best out of it you need to boost the volume close to the max. Then use an attenuator to bring it down to the necessary loudness.

Hey Man, your tone is awesome, but I personally think that the compression you add in your daw kill the dynamics of the amp. I would remove the compression there and add a slight bit of gain on the amp to get the compression there without loosing the amps dynamics. Also you could add a little more presence or treble to give it more bite
@TheArtofGuitar
@TheArtofGuitar 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the situation. Once the guitars are in the mix I make adjustments to fit. More gain on the amp is great sometimes but other times it makes it more lost in the mix. Mixing is such a balancing act.

I've been using Korn's woodstock 99 soundcheck to set the levels of my midi drums and I'm really surprised by how quiet the guitars are. They even turn them down more than my instinct tells me is too quiet. I don't know if that's unique to their band but it has me more comfortable setting lower guitar levels. I only briefly liked korn when I was kid but IMO that's one of the best concerts any band has or will ever have.

Would anyone be able to help me with how to setup dual amps please? I have a 50w Plexi and a 50w Silver Jubilee hand-wired clone amps. Can I connect both these amps to my 4x12 cabinet and blend the sound of them together? How exactly would I wire that up? Both my amps can do 4/8/16 ohms, and my cabinet has 3 inputs: an 8ohm Left stereo input that is also a 4ohm mono input, an 8ohm Right stereo input, and a 16ohm mono input. I'd like the tones of my two amps to be blended. What about my effects? As an example, would I put my pre-amp effects like overdrive and wah-wah in front of the Plexi, and then all my other effects like reverb and my EQ pedal in the FX loop of the Jubilee? Or is this basically going to necessitate buying another 4x12? Thanks!
