You don’t think that dividend payouts is kind of worthless? The way I see it is when a company pays a dividend. It just goes from your right pocket to your left pocket and it creates a tax event.

No? You’re mixing growth with sustainability. What you’re referring to is wanting your investments to grow. That’s what the growth index is for! But the dividend index is to pay you out for the course of time, so you’ll make your money back and then some. For example, I bought a REIT that pays me $110 a month, I’ve already made my money back on that investment, so now I just get $110 every month since then. But with dividend payouts (when done right) can be more tax efficient for you than selling your index funds or stocks at a profit. They’re just different strategies. If you want passive income to pay you out no matter what the market is doing, dividend investing is the way to go. If you want to grow your portfolio and make money over the course of your time, growth investing is the way to go
