Traction alopecia had me crying like crazy last year. Went to the dermatologist she wanted to charge me $600 for PRP treatments, said I needed 18. Researched like crazy, started dermarollimg my edges every other day, using blue magic grease in my hair again like when I was a little girl, sulfur 8 and Virgin hair fertilizer, taking cod liver oil capsules and using a headband underneath my wigs to stop the rubbing against the scalp. Also no heat whatsoever I air dry my hair when I wash and do silicone mix deep treatment. It's been 4 months and the edges the dermatologist told me would never come back because the follicles are dead...are springing back like crazy. Also forgot to add..I always drank alot of water, put I started drinking even more water every day. U have to moisturize inside and outside. And i also switched to iodized table salt at home.

@wendiyork8882
@wendiyork8882 3 жыл бұрын
It depends a lot in how you put the braids in. I for one don’t braid right, do a really good protein treatment/ deep conditioner before I put them in and leave my edges out. I also make sure I spray and butter my hair and scalp every three days. Green beauty actually has a video on how to properly take care of your hair in braids
@teresai1877
@teresai1877 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on how tight they are, how clean the style is kept, and how long they are kept. If they are too tight, then they are less protective. Also, I wouldn't keep braids in more than a month. (When my hair isn't in braids, I do a wash once a week though.)

I've had box braids 3 times in life. 2 out of 3 of those times I've lost my edges. Once was regular box and once was with knotless. Both times the braids were butt length. I guess that length is too heavy for me
@elodiei.5087
@elodiei.5087 2 жыл бұрын
Nope! I stopped with box braids a year ago and went nearly a year without marley twists (I wore them for 2 weeks a few months ago and regretted it). My hair has grown more in the past year than it has in the past 5+ years and my new growth is strong and thick. No more box braids for me, I'll stick to my headband wigs.

Ladies, please keep in mind that as you age, hair follicles get smaller, and sebum production declines. Also, if you are wearing wigs for protective styling, the comb inserts can also cause damage and thinning to your edges. The PRO is they can be removed beforehand. 💆🏽‍♀️

I've learnt to leave my hair alone. I wear it in twists. Scooping and spreading didn't work for me, my edges (frontal) really thinned. I also don't like remoisturizing my 4c hair because it 'fuzzes' up and forms single strand knots even when in twists...Still learning and unlearning but for now, my hair prefers being handled after washing plus the herbal hot oil treatment is beneficial (thanks for that) - my hair loses less moisture. My edges started growing back when I started doing my own braids(not going to the salon), and always doing knotless braids instead of the normal box braids, and putting my braids up in a lose bun.... The "hair professionals" , especially here in Africa, always braid your hair using small portions of your real hair and making them tight... My edges before I started doing my hair, were in the critical stage because of it

Aging is inevitable. For most people, your hair will thin as you age. Adding light exercise, good loving sex, lean protein, healthy carbs, lots of vegetables and fruit, and healthy fats can help maintain fullness of your hair after 35. Straightening your hair a little can help air get to your scalp better, especially if you have dense 4C hair

I do what you have in my journey of restoring my edges! I part a section of half my head of hair to focus on edges. It's definitely helping me. I'm aware of what my setbacks are, and really need to stick with preventative measures, to keep edges from being stressed.

What I have learned from the natural hair community in the 2 years since I started paying attention to my hair: 1. No weave, no braids with extensions. 2. No heat, no colouring or dyeing. 3. Do your hair in loose, large plaits 4. Wash it every month or so, no combing 5. The revolution will not be televised. Conclusion: Touch your hair (at your own risk!!) twice a year. Don't even get me started on what to do with a TWA 😁

My edges got damaged in my pre-teens/teens due to wearing extensions. From that point on I said never again. Even just leaving my hair alone for years didn't encourage them to grow back. I can't message the area because the hairs that do grow are so weak that gentle massages will cause the hairs to shed. 😭 I've started to turn to herbs and am starting to see some progress. I'm not holding out for full coverage, but I'm looking forward to seeing what mine look like in two years, as well.

Can you do a video for naturals with 4c, fine strands, and low density? I know you did a similar video but it didnt provide much insight to those of us with the fine strand low density combination. Info I'd like to know: -Is it possible to achieve lengths longer than APL or BSL with this hair type? -insight on dealing with hair thats see through when blown out or in an afro being mistaken for damaged ends. This is a common issue with this hair type combo. When we do blow outs or rock a fro, it looks as though we need a trim because the low density makes it see through. I realized I've been trimming off the very length I've been retaining or more than I should because of this misconception. Then again, I'm sure this hair type is indeed more prone to split ends and such. So it's hard to tell anyway! -whether or not it's best we protective style most of the time and which protective styles are best for our hair. -how porosity, especially high porosity makes this hair type combination especially hard to retain or more prone to breakage. -products, methods, hair styles and other things we could do to either reinforce our strands, aid in retention and fullness or make the ends appear fuller. So little info for those of us with this hair type. WE NEED YOUR HELP! I wouldnt be surprised if youd have to interview ladies first in order to really get an idea on how to make this hair type thrive. Thankfully there are a few youtubers we can turn to. But very few. Thanx for reading.

I watched the video about spreading the sebum onto the rest of your hair. I am fascinated with this. I just wanted to point out that it could be your slightly acidic pH spritz that may be contributing to your hair thinning. I wouldn't leave that in on your hair. I use diluted lemon juice as a pre-shampoo mask on my scalp for about 10 mins but I rinse it out thoroughly and then shampoo it out. It's not good for your hair to leave it in at all (Yannie the Locologist).

I think separating your edges, laying them on your forehead like baby hair instead of combing & brushing them with the rest of our hair might cause damage. When you work your line hair with the rest of your hair they'll grow together.

Separating edges can breaks the edges off. Comb it with the rest of the hair. The making baby hair isn't cutting it. Blend your edges with the rest of the hair. I hadn't heard of a major hair line issue with the women I know personally until the start separating their edges away from the other hair. Before, their edges length was no different from the crown of their hair. That's my opinion on some of the edge issues.

"Protective styling" does more damage than good, in my opinion. Wigs, weaves, tight ponytails and braids cause issues. Leaving our hair alone and in its natural loose state is best. TFS

It appears this is the only way to have healthy hair. My issue was not braids or wigs etc...it was the relaxer after many many years. After 9 months of transitioning, I am now fully natural....thank you Jesus...it took my hair thinning in the crown to wake up & know my days using any chemical at all was over if I wanted to save my strands. Finding natural styles with low maintenance until wash day is working for me. It takes time upfront but last until your next wash day. My style has been finger coiling.

Most importantly, apply grease!!! twirl or twist depending on length. You could also tuck it away in a bigger sectioned hair. My hair has grown practicing this method. Work for edges too.
