Excellent idea for a winging-it soaring bird series! Hopefully the local soaring birds approve. The possibilities are many for experimenting with ways to control. Keeping control methods simple and light will be the challenge.

Well done youtube, just got the notification about this 'new' video 3 days after I have already watched it. Not that I mind watching it again 😁👍

The best way to tame and control swept flying wings with pointed wingtips and without fins, like this seagull model, is by building it "a la Horten": i.e. lots of washout and elevon in the outer wing. Together with the right balancing, it will fly right.

Looking at Andy Whitehead's print, it appears to be based on the 'Gull' oz6712 plan from Outerzone. If so ,as I'm sure you realise, the original (full wing section version) had separate ailerons and elevators and also a see-through vertical fin. Given your flat or kfm wing all that complication mightn't be necessary, although as @Tsnafu suggests having the horizontal stab directly behind the elevons might cause handling eccentricities 🙃🙂 🙃. I Had problems for that reason with a big foam pterodactyl I made years ago. Either way, will look forward to the maiden flight. BTW, whether you've decided on the African or European version and whether laden or unladen, make sure to take some Holy Hand Grenades of Antioch with you when venturing out for the maiden. Don't want you falling prey to any killer rabbits you come across on the dunes.

I think you might struggle a bit with control, with elevon wings and a fixed horizontal stab trailing behind. I suspect forward stick might have you ballooning up with the control surfaces working more like flaps. If so, you'll need to add an elevator and go 3 channel. TBH, I think I'd start with that. I've seen A J Woodpiece (ajw61185 here on YT) use clear acrylic for near invisible vertical stabilisers on his builds, so that's something to consider too.

You'll have to make an FT Swallow now Nick (African version obviously, as they can carry more weight)
