It’s a beautiful design you’ve got there and I’m very tempted to give it a go. I make violins but as a kid I made largish (70mm+ wingspan) balsa gliders with doped tissue paper (with criminal volatiles produced !) and every one I made crashed on its first flight and was damaged beyond repair. So I’m a bit reticent for that reason.

Great videos and a huge help before I build mine. I have 3 questions (in case anyone is reading this after 8 years and has thoughts): 1) Would it save time and make a stronger and neater job if wing halves were glued together before glass tape covering as one continuous strip could be used along the whole span (this question also applies to the covering later on with coloured tape though I can see that the thinner tape might be trickier to lay straight without wrinkling etc) 2) Would it not be better if the ailerons were bottom hinged in order to achieve smoother airflow along the wing underside (the air will be turbulent at this point on the upper surface so there's less benefit in top hingeing) 3) I hate cutting the mounts off servos just in case I should ever want to use them elsewhere (this habit comes from my early RC days and perhaps servos are heaper these days and I should stop fussing!). Would it really matter if I chose to cut slots to accommodate them in the wing.?

My grandfather worked on the NASA Parasev in the early 1960s. I can see two things wrong. 1.) Angle of incidence is too shallow, so it's not catching enough of the airflow to fill the sail, hence the trailing edge flutter. 2.) Needs some training edge battens. Basically, stiff rods running from the trailing edge about 25% to 50% towards the nose. This will add some stiffness to the trailing edge and reduce the tendency to flutter. You could try simply duct taping some bamboo skewers on.

The Soas has the advantages. Compact and lighter. Greater wind range. The Dammit is easily ballasted and I find it somehow easier to fly. Both are quite durable although I think I may not have correctly glued the fuselage in dammit. As I’ve twice detached a wing after a nose in. The front profile of the soas is very small and it can easily vanish. Also beware the tip stall and spin. I love both planes and they are my primary models.
