The Flex Seal doesn't harden up very well. I found that Rust-Oleum truck bed spray (7.00 a can at home depot) works awesome. The truck bed spray also sticks to the U bolts and brackets so everything matches. Also, the screws that come with the Conduit (Ebay has the Reese Conduit for 47.00 new) are to long and stick through the pipe on the inside which could damage your rods or your hands when reaching in. I bought a 5.00 rivet gun and used rivets which was super easy and keeps people from unscrewing the screws and removing the cap. BTW the ARE Rod Pods are 499.00 each... Crazy

I highly recommend against the Flex Seal to anyone wanting to try this, you can get 2 cans of primer and 2 cans of what ever color paint you want for what 1 can of Flex Seal costs...which is $12-$14 at most big box stores (Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes). Not to mention, if you live somewhere that has high humidity, the Flex Seal struggles to fully cure even after waiting 48 hours as is recommended on the can. Don't waste your time and money on the Flex Seal when there are cheaper options out there that work better... With that said, everything else presented in this video works great.

I think you missed the point, He said it was pricey. The point is, it durable and will last. Scrach resistant. If you can't afford it prolly shouldnt be fishing or buying this PVC kit.

I made one awhile ago and love mine, you can get 8 rods with baitcasters in at once. Take your 4 longest rods going in butt first and put them in longest to shortest then do the same with the next 4 tip first going longest to shortest. It's a tight fit but they get in there and for anyone making one who is reading this USE rod gloves, it's a must have. Great video fluke

Great video Gene. I just finished mine not more than 2 weeks ago. Tip to your fans: Sometimes you can go to a construction home site that is in the PRE LOT phase where they are laying all the plumbing. 6" Schedule 40 PVC that is GREY (at least in Texas) is used during this phase. Often times they have scraps that are 8-10 ft long. Ask the foreman and most likely you can walk away with one, just mind the dirt and scrapes.

Thanks for this video. I've been wanting to do it since you posted it and finally did. I mounted mine on the right side on the outside of the racks as high as it can go. That way it doesn't interfere with whatever I put on top the racks. it's a good fit. The hardest part of this was finding the PVC. The Lowes and Home Depot near me don't carry 6" pvc. I had to go to a plumbing supply yard and it cost $40.00 for a 10' section more than I was expecting but what can you do. I was expecting the brackets to be low end but they are nice quality stainless. Kit (Amazon)$49, 2 cans Paint (Lowes)$22, PVC $40
@Patton708 жыл бұрын
Is there a specific reason you painted the Rod Pod? Black absorbs heat and down here in the South it gets plenty hot! I was just wondering if the heat would affect the mono and fluorocarbon lines on your reels? White reflects light and heat and by leaving the PVC white, you'd save a few bucks as well. Thanks for another awesome video! Keep doing what you do my friend!

...someone could simply unscrew the screws that hold on the end cap and pull the rods out while the lock would remain locked...or simply unscrew the large ubolt nuts and take the entire tube and deal with getting into to tube later. That lock really doesn't prevent much...actually with that big a lock you know something inside is really worth the effort. Nice design but I wouldn't call that secure and I would not feel comfortable leaving that full of rods/reels unattended for too long. In terms of water getting in...you could also angle the rear slightly lower and drill a few pilot holes on the bottom so that if any water did get in, gravity would pull it down and out threw the bottom rear drain holes.

Plus if you live in a non carry state...when you leave your vehicle to go shopping etc...there is an encentive for a bad person to break into your vehicle because of you advertising your gun. Sorry for my cinical attitude but I have seen many nice folks get robbed because they like to brag or advertise their expensive items.
